Wow that is an honour, thank you so much for the shout out Mark! 🥰 Since I started playing bass I watched a lot of your videos - thank you for your great input! Cheers, Julia 🍍
I don't know what it is about Charles Bethoud but he seems like a top notch kinda guy. Great job with the shout outs. All of them are worthy of the attention of those of us that aspire to learn to bass.
I knew most of these channels, but TalkingBass will always be my #1 recommendation when someone asks me which is the best channel for bass lessons on RUclips. For real, the amount of stuff I learned (and still learning) is amazing!
This is about as classy a move as I've ever seen. Really speaks to Mark's integrity and proves to me he cares about the learning, no matter the source. Awesome stuff.
for me talkingbass is the best option of the 20, because Mark is an all around player, no bullshit, cristal clear to explain, and i think that he is a good block too
I can tell you that Josh Fossgreen and Mark Smith were my first two online teachers. As a blind bass player, these guys would describe there fingerings and what they were doing to show how to do certain things on the bass. So that jumped started me for sure. I ended up buying seven of Mark's Courses. Beginner, Basic Fundamentals, Chord Tone Essentials, Scale Essentials, Simple Steps to Walking Bass, Both Volumes of Slap Bass, and Chords for Bass. Now the reading material does not always work with Screen Reading Software (Which is what I use to use my computer and what not.) And that's because sometimes little graphical symbols are hard for the Screen Reader to interpret. But that is an issue with the Screen Reader. Not with the lesson material. Nevertheless, these courses are still grate and I still have learned so much from them.
Mark - this is awesome, thanks so much for including eBassGuitar in there. This is one of the fabulous reasons I love the bass community... such a cool supportive where everybody can bring their own angle! Thanks again man :-)
Hi Mark. Congratulations for your channel and this video in particular. It is great to see a teacher promoting other teachers as it really makes sense then to talk about a bass teaching community. Props to you! I missed though Dan from Online Bass Courses. Very nice guy, great player and superb content. Cheers.
My toughts on my top 3: 3) Scott's bass lesson : very knowledgeable, but he tends to talk forever and bore me. 2) Talkingbass: Very easy to understand, and great aproach to beginners. This was the channel that taught me the basics. So easy to understand 1) Bassbuzz: very very fun, and the diagrams help out a lot. Helped me learn notes and scales
Yep, Scott tends to have a lot of 15 min videos with 10 mins of content. OR the classic "one of those days" where you have to skip 2-3 first minutes to get to the actual lesson. Still a good teacher and player tho and knows a ton, don't get me wrong, I think he just didn't RUclips-ify his videos enough to be extremely concise and entirely lesson-focused. But I guess RUclips is only a small part of the SBL Academy universe
As if I wasn't busy enough with my TalkingBass courses and practicing LOL. Thanks Mark, you are more than a great bass teacher, you are very caring and generous to put this list together. I hope to have a pint with you someday.
My favs: #1 TalkingBass, because EVERYTHING!!! You taught me to play, really, from ZERO. I am pretty competent with the instrument now, probably intermediate, and I picked up an instrument (bass being my first one ever) at 36. Also, you're the only person on YT who gives equal credit to pretty much all genres of music. A true pedagogue :) Finally, I understand your accent! You enunciate nicely, you are aware that the entire world is watching you, with arying levels of English knowledge. #2 Adam Neely, because EVERYTHING ELSE #3 Julia Hofner and Basslady, because I identify with them - girls and non-native English speakers, and because their focus is NOT on jazz and rock/prog/metal. Refreshing. #4 BassBuzz, because fun and practical #5 Become a Bassist because Luke is so nice, you just have to trust him. Also, a wonderful pedagogue, recognizes where you might get stuck and supports you through it. Every lesson of his really sticks. . . . #20 SBL, because he greets his audience with "dudes". Thank you Mark for not calling us dudes, and please tell your friend Scott to chill with that, many of his viewers will actually continue to the content if he just calls us anything else. Dudes and dudettes will do fine.
Talking Bass is THE channel for bass education. I have taken a few of Mark’s courses and learned more for those courses than I have in years. The material is straight forward, no ego and is explained in a way that you can’t help but learn. The lessons are a good price and are good value-you will have it for reference for a lifetime. And not only that Mark is one of the top bassists of our time! Thank you for the learning Mark!!
You really are a fantastic teacher. If I want to learn something or need clarification I come here first. Thank you Luke from Become a Bass player is also great. And Rick Beato is Grandmaster. His white board lecture are legendary.
Bloody brilliant. Thanks for doing this vid. A couple of also mentions, Patrick hunter, Bully the Kidd and Lowend Lobster, these guys do a great job of reviewing equipment
Thank you for this post. I have really fallen off of playing bass over the last 6 months or so. Haven't wanted to pick it back up, because I don't want it to feel like I'm starting all over again. Thanks
Fantastic video, Mark! You found a way to mention some of my favorite online bass content, including your channel of course. I call Jim Stinnett, The Bob Ross Of Bass. Bob might have painted "Happy Trees", but Jim definitely plays happy basslines. Josh is a good teacher for beginners. Scott is interesting and informative. Davey 504 is amusing, but repetitive. Marlowe DK's old videos were great. I could listen to him play covers all day. I corresponded with him a few times. Super nice guy. Thanks for mentioning Marlowe.
What a great video. I got a few new subs from it! What I particularly like is that even though you call it a top 20, you present it in a way which makes each one feel as important as the rest. Really humble and thoughtful.
I started with BassBuzz online programme and will move to TalkingBass online programmes after I’ve finished that. As a professional teacher myself (obviously not music) I know a good teacher from a mile off. Keep up the sterling work Sir.
Thanks very much for this list! I've been learning the bass while in quarantine here in the U.S. I've been following a few of these channels but the ones I haven't been following look great. Have to say though, you're far and away the best teacher.
Scott Whitley and Guy Pratt are some notable omissions - Scott has been entertaining the troops during the lockdown with live-streamed gigs from his shed, and he has a great library of educational material online, as well as some interesting insights into the development of his signature short scale bass; Guy Pratt of course needs no introduction, and he’s been talking us through some of his most famous lines over the last few months on his RUclips channel - he’s also a wonderful raconteur, so these vids are both educational and entertaining.
You've earned my respect big time. I feel great for every time I decided to click on one of your videos now, and look forward to doing so a whole lot more! Thanks, Mark!
Thank you so much Mark. Rick Beato's channel is also a good at covering theory and recording. He is a former professor of music and music producer who has interesting and talented guests from time to time.
I’ve been watching Rick since looong before he got the huge following. He’s awesome but not on here because he’s not bass oriented. And yes, I know he majored in bass
Mark - all I can say is you're transcending the word "class" by doing this. You care so much more about the bass playing community than anything else involved. I wish I could take you to dinner or some other gesture to show you my personal appreciation. Thank you Mark.
the only channel that helped me in my early days and i suggest all other begginer bass player to check out talking bass you explain concepts so detaily that every one understands
Mark - nice! Most of my subscriptions - but lots of interesting-sounding new ones. Thanks so much. Can't imagine where I'll find the time to check them out properly!
Mark, Congrats! I checked most of the sites you mentioned., but you are the only one who goes from 0 to 10 in all of your courses. So you are NO:1 Definitely Scott is a not so distant second. I am not talking about U-tube. I am talking about the actual websites of those guys. Keep up the good work! I am one of your students and have bought 7 courses from your program. Good luck!
Great list, a few new ones I haven't heard of before. I think its great to acknowledge there are many great resources out there and sticking to just one may limit you. Its also possible that each person's learning style doesn't always mesh with a certain teacher's teaching style, so its always good to get many perspectives because the light bulb may go on just because of how one person presents the same concept you didn't catch onto from someone else. My main three are SBL (Player's Path is awesome), TalkingBass and TrueFire, but I'm going to check out a few more from this list now, too. Always something to learn and work on.
For it's: Talking Bass, Bass Buzz, Cover Solutions, Lessonface(yonit speigelman). You are the ones i use for a wealth of info. Awesome channel and thanks for the rest of the recommends!
Good video Mark and no doubt the best one is Talking Bass. The Bass Wizard, Marcello Feldman is another great YT channel. Also Marlowe DK although he hasn't had any new content for a few years.
Outstanding, Mark! I already subscribe to almost all of these and now I subscribe to the handful I didn't know about. Good looking out! Aside from you absolutely caring about the teaching as a high priority, it also shows your generosity to the entire bass teaching community. I also have a monthly subscription to your TalkingBass website (as well as Scott's Bass Lessons and Bassline Publishing's subscription sites), so I'm definitely a big fan of yours. You have helped me immensely over the years and I appreciate the fine work you do. Be well!
Well done Mark! This list does show all the best bass learning channels. Adam’s is such a great companion for his theory etc... I love it! Thanks for being a great teacher!
Amazing!!!! I knew about a few of these channels but damn this is incredible! Not to mention all the channels you listed that "didn't make the list" are great too. You have open up another world for me Mark thank you!!!!! Can't wait to learn more with you!!!!!!
Great list, -- Thank You! I also like Fusilli Jerry, Bass Tabs By Jason, and Cifra Club. Also, -- I have BassBuzz's Bass To Badass DVD course, and I highly recommend it!
Thank You!🙏🏿 Great List!🎯 Talking Bass was the first platform I subscribed to for bass lessons. (2yrs.) I've subbed a couple on this list as well.👍🏿 (Really liked the duet with Ariana Capp🎸🎸)
This was great Mark. It really shows your character and that you just want your followers to become the best bassists they can be. I guess that is why I have been following you for the past year. Besides your site, the ones I visit regularly is Luke MacIntosh's Become A Bassist. I think he's great and I love the way he presents. And my third favorite is Josh from Bass Buzz. I love his presentation, its a lot of fun and informative. Another bassists I have started to follow is Ian Martin Allison. He has been doing lessons on SBL and he is positive and plays with such joy. I will check out the others. Though, been to SBL and just not for me. Stay Awesome Mark!
I believe BennyTheBassman deserves a shoutout, his channel is similar to CoverSolutions, no lessons, no talking just playing covers with tabs/notation.
I visit and love a lot of these channels, but once I discovered TalkingBass, I had found “home bass” for online lessons and tips, And inspiration. I also tune in to as many Saturday live chats as I can! World class content here Mark.
Mark, Thank you for doing this intelligent presentation. Your explanations are clear, concise and to the point, Just as with this video, you waste no time and go straight to the essential points, and this leaves us with more time to practice. Doing this list confirms your quality character. It’s a bit early but Happy Festive Season and good luck for 2021!
Mark thanks for putting your pride aside and sharing with us your list of some of the best RUclips channels for learning bass. I’m surprised you left out Ariane Cap. Other than that, a pretty solid list of bassists I’m going to check out. 🙂
can't argue that some of the others may be more entertaining.but for pedantic instructional ,inspiring videos you rock Mark.not pissing in your pocket just wish to express my Appreciation
Mark is a great guy and has an awesome website. I have been watching his videos since I started playing bass (about 3 years now), and I've learned theory, technique, and musicianship from him. He is personable, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very talented. Well done you!
Study Bass was a much more active RUclips channel in the past. The guy's name escapes me now, but I found his content well presented and most effective with its variety of topics. Don't get much new stuff from him anymore. Hmmm, wonder if he'd sell me that Zon?🤔
What a great video Mark... Quite honestly if I want something explained clearly and want to see how to do it, TalkingBass is where I'm going. If I want inspiration, yes it's a visit to CoverSolutions... or to Julia's channel. Scott has some great content, but sometimes his videos are a little long. Yep, Josh is entertaining and has some great content. So glad you included Travis...what an underrated channel (and who doesn't love his cover of Love Theory).
Thanks Mark As a late starting beginner, I'm glad to see that most of the resources I go to are on your list! Both you and they have been invaluable to me. Thanks again?!
Great Resource for bassists looking for other channels to help with their playing! Us musicians have to help each other out, and you do a fantastic job of it :)
For the honorable mentions you should have included Leland Sklar. He posts daily, usually playing along to the track. He also shares great stories about being a session musician, as well as stories from the road
Great Stuff Mark, and thanks a bunch for putting up this list. You're the Man!! just to say that MannyBass and Real Bass Lessons links in the Pinned comment aren't correct. They seem to be truncated.
Nathan Navarro should be also mentioned here, great channel and a super awesome bass player. And I would add Rick Beato as an endless source of inspiration, always fun to watch. His "What makes this song great" song dissections are really motivating and interesting.
Great list Mark. I am a huge fan of Bass Buzz, have done private lessons with Josh, he is great. I do a lot of your courses too. I want to shout out to Damien Erskine, and his newer channel BassEducation.com. He is another great player / teacher who I learn tons from. I gravitate primarily between these 3 channels daily. I use many of the others you mentioned, and you have introduced me to some new ones here, so thanks for that.
Man I love this! Talking bass is great. All the guys he mentioned are great. Mono neo is great also. They all help me & encourage me to start my own channel. Hopefully soon I will be on a bass player list.
Great list! Like others I have heard of most of them by searching bass on RUclips. Nice that you have your opinion on them. Looking forward to checking out the gospel and Latin channels 🙌
So many great players and helpful teachers out there, it would be impossibile to include them all but some additional channels derving attention are Wobass, Cambrige Bass Lessons, Greg Fairweather, and Ryan Madora
I would recommend the channel Hondo Felder Music, he explains and shows a lot of the stuff of pedals. He does live streams and he is very kind. He does youtube videos and streams at Twitch. Also Janek is doing Twitch.
I would add Nathan Navarro. He is a great bass player and started to post more frequently lately. I would put him in the inspirations section as he does covers arrangements and gear reviews on youtube.
For the list of channels check the info below the video. Posting the longer names in the comments here goes wrong because of the truncation.
I use your site/channel and RealBassLessons regularly. My personal favorites. Expanding my skills and knowledge exponentially.
Hi
Thanks for the shout Mark, and happy holidays everyone!
Go Josh!!!!
You're also one of my favorite channels. Well thought out content and alot of fun!
I started with you and talking bass. Really good stuff! You Crack me up!
Go noob josh, you're awesome :)
Your'e the man, Josh. I am using your paid lessons along with Mark's (TalkingBass). Best of both bass learning worlds.
I'm so honoured to be included here Mark. Thanks so much for the shoutout - I really appreciate it!
No sweat Luke. Brotherhood of Bass!!
well deserved
Holy cow!! Thanks for the shout out Mark. You are the man or like we say in spanish, "¡Mark el mas poderoso!"
Love ya Manny! Glad you're feeling better man. I was worried for a minute. But you are....INVINCIBLE!!!
Spoken like a true teacher.....not a businessman.
Thank you for the shout out Mark, this is an awesome video! Hope you're doing well!
#1: talkingbass
been studying there for some months and it´s freakiiiing great!
Wow that is an honour, thank you so much for the shout out Mark! 🥰
Since I started playing bass I watched a lot of your videos - thank you for your great input!
Cheers, Julia 🍍
Love what you do Julia. Just hope I pronounced your name correctly!!
@@talkingbasslessons 🙏
WOW!!! Thank you soooooo much Mark!!! It's a great pleasure & honor to be part of the list! THANK YOU!
I'm a huge fan of your playing Federico! More than happy to sing your name from the rooftops!!
@@talkingbasslessons Thank you very much again! And Thanks for all the things that you teach to the Bass comunity ;-)
I don't know what it is about Charles Bethoud but he seems like a top notch kinda guy.
Great job with the shout outs. All of them are worthy of the attention of those of us that aspire to learn to bass.
This proves that Mark isn't just a great musician, he's a great guy and really cares about the bass community.
I knew most of these channels, but TalkingBass will always be my #1 recommendation when someone asks me which is the best channel for bass lessons on RUclips. For real, the amount of stuff I learned (and still learning) is amazing!

I second this 👍
Mark, thank you so much for the plug, that's very kind of you! Happy Christmas to you and your family, and to all in the bass community!
Have a good Christmas Stu. Always happy to tell everyone about your stuff. Best books in the business.
Thanks a ton for the shout Mark! Happy holidays to you and everyone here. I'll see you in the shed ;)
Love your playing brother. Keep up the cool work!
for me talkingbass is the best option of the 20, because Mark is an all around player, no bullshit, cristal clear to explain, and i think that he is a good block too
I dunno. I'm a bullshitter of the highest order.
@@talkingbasslessons A very necessary skill for a musician! ; )
Leyland Sklar's channel is very addictive. Not really for learning bass, but very informative and interesting from a veteran pro's perspective
Leland is a GOD! Love his channel
@@talkingbasslessons surprised you didnt mention it, but I get it.
A humble legend if one exists.

😇💚 thank you so much @talkingbass for appreciating my works and effort . Thank you also for recommending my Channel 🙏😇💚
For inspiration, I love JuliaPlaysGroove
For lessons, TalkingBass, obviously, and BassBuzz (beginner here)
Bassbuzz is a really skilled teacher as well as being good at bass.
Absolutely the same here!
This is a win for the community. Thank you!
Humble and it speaks amazingly of your confidence. Great work, Mark, applauses!
Funnily enough, my wife just said the same thing when I told her about the latest vid.
Mark - this is awesome, thanks so much for including eBassGuitar in there. This is one of the fabulous reasons I love the bass community... such a cool supportive where everybody can bring their own angle!

Constantine is great. So many songs.
Thanks for sharing info about other channels. You truly place the interests of bass players ahead of your own. Namaste. 🙏🏽

Hey Mark, it's okay to drop the bass for this kind of videos bro, don't strain yourself too much.
Ryan Madora has a relatively new channel that I'm really enjoying. She's based out of Nashville.
Well done Mark! This list does show all the best bass learning channels. Adam’s is such a great companion for his theory etc... I love it! Thanks for being a great teacher!

Thank you for doing this intelligent presentation.
Your explanations are clear, concise and to the point,
Just as with this video, you waste no time and go straight to the essential points, and this leaves us with more time to practice.
She’s in the Truefire section. Most of her online output is there and she does a lot at SBL
what a great video Mark! thanks!
Of course, in my personal list, your channel would be the first! :D
then Daric...Scott...and all the others!
You get 10000 respect for this video!
can't argue that some of the others may be more entertaining.but for pedantic instructional ,inspiring videos you rock Mark.not pissing in your pocket just wish to express my Appreciation
Mark is a great guy and has an awesome website. I have been watching his videos since I started playing bass (about 3 years now), and I've learned theory, technique, and musicianship from him. He is personable, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very talented. Well done you!
Nice work Mark. Happy Holidays!
Study Bass was a much more active RUclips channel in the past. The guy's name escapes me now, but I found his content well presented and most effective with its variety of topics. Don't get much new stuff from him anymore. Hmmm, wonder if he'd sell me that Zon?🤔
Really appreciate your tips . They've really hoped btw seeing you those SIMS pickups definitely make me jealous. Well done my brother .
Mark, I am glad you have yourself on list, cause you the man. I visit the first five or so all the time. Thank you for the new channels😁
Very kind and as you’re as thoughtful of the bigger bass education picture as ever!
Thanks Mark
As a late starting beginner, I'm glad to see that most of the resources I go to are on your list!
You're a nice bloke.
True dat
Thanks Mark. Love your channel!
Number one is right here! Love your vids mark you’ve helped me a lot
Ed Friedland has been starting to drop more gear reviews recently as well after a long absence. I’ve always respected his opinions on gear.
You are a good and just king, Mark
I would recommend the channel Hondo Felder Music, he explains and shows a lot of the stuff of pedals. He does live streams and he is very kind. He does youtube videos and streams at Twitch. Also Janek is doing Twitch.
I would add Nathan Navarro. He is a great bass player and started to post more frequently lately. I would put him in the inspirations section as he does covers arrangements and gear reviews on youtube.
Yeah. I should have included Nathan. He’s incredible.
Nate is more about new gear promotion and demos not teaching.
