  • On the Trotus Valley that connects Moldova with Transylvania, in the village of Lunca de Sus (Harghita county, Romania), 30 km from Miercurea Ciuc, a “alpine coaster” track has been operating since 2017, along with two other ski slopes. The fairy tale scenery of the Ghimes valley, as the area is known here, is complemented by the traditions of the Csango ethnic group, who speak Hungarian. At the base of the slopes, near the national road, you will find the parking lot, the cottage with the ticket house and a bar, and next a rustic style restaurant, Ski Gyimes, with traditional Csango products.
For this track, known as "summer bobsleigh", we prefer to use the name "alpine coaster" because it can work also in winter and describe it more technically. Alpine coaster is a variant of "Roller Coaster" ("Mountain Rousse") in which the sleds gravitationally slide on steel cylindrical rails and, very important, the speed can be very easily controlled with the brake operated by a lever. There also appears to be an automatic centrifugal brake that limits the speed to 45 km / hour. At the end of the track, the braking is automatic. The alpine coaster track from Lunca de Sus is 1,300 (1,200?) meter long, 120 m level difference (between 940-1060 m elevations), two loops and a "tunnel". The "sleds" are drawn to the hill (about 600 m) by a cable car system.
The first part of the video shows you the place and the track as a whole, in the middle the embarkation point and the climb, and the end of the video shows a spectacular descent at the maximum speed obtained after a few training races.
