Great channel. I am getting back into flyfishing. I did it from 87 to about 2006. I am 52 now. I only have fished like 5 times in the last 12 years. Lol. Not wasting any more time. Great vid. Thanks for the inspiration.
Always marvel at the mountains of W.Md.. On the little stream I fished in NJ the big ones stayed out of sight during daylight, taking streamers at night. A tip from Dave Whitlock. " Dont go home" I am 76 yrs. old this yr. and I love this way of life, because it never stops giving, Think I'm going on another drive. Thanks WB and the rest of yall.
Great video as usually mike. My unckle broke me in on fly fishing when I was about 10 yrs. old and yes my fish spot he took me to was poplar lick. that was about 60 yrs ago. It was pretty much a wild virgin area then. When we were about 10 yards from the small crick he had me on my belly low crawling up to the crick. The only thing that got over the crick was the tip of the fly pole. He drilled in to me ...if the brookies saw you it was over. Bows and brownies are that skidish. That was my intro to the tiny mountain cricks in western md. Love your videos of the tiny mountain creeks especially fall and winter time. Tks Bill...yes I am a subscriber.
My 3 day video series out there is my favorite of my collection. I hope you enjoyed your time out there. Those brookie streams are awesome. However, fishing the trophy trout section of Savage when water is right is pretty special. Nice video!
Thank you very much. I appreciate that coming from someone I look up to. Early in the season I was inadvertently a week behind you on many streams, in one case just a day. Hopefully one day we cross paths. Tight lines!
Love the area up there in western Maryland. Caught a 12 inch brookie in full spawning colors on a trib there. My buddy also lost a 5 lber brown on the main savage on a streamer. Fun times up there. Can’t wait to get up there for a day or two this summer
Surprised the Poplar Lick was so hard given all the rain recently. The Savage is brutal man. I have been skunked as well. However, when the water is low and around 100 CFS or lower I can pick it apart with Euro Nymphing the rocks. Very humbling, but rewarding when you are running right. I lost a 20 incher on that stream, would have been my PB. That will keep me coming back. Best of luck next time you go out. If you every want a guide for out there hit up PJ Daley. He is AWESOME, and Orvis endorsed.
Tight Lining MD thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I thought the Savage was very technical water. I can see how tight lining would be an advantage there. I kept saying the same thing about Poplar Lick, but I’m telling you, it was really low.
I love fishing dry flies on streams like this and you guys hit on some nice Brookies. Well done! I like fishing CDC dry and emerger patterns as well. I also use foam humpys a lot that I think is mostly a West Coast pattern. Just got back from the Sierras last week, lightning strikes, mud slides, flooding, downpours and hail storms every day but still managed a few nice ones high sticking weighted nymphs and dry/dropper yellow Sally's and zebra midges down to size 22. Thanks for the cool video. Seems like you always meet nice folks out on the water.
You need to try fishing the north branch Potomac river. By far my favorite river ever. Incredible wild rainbow and brown trout fishing, with some cutthroats and bookies. Also some giants. I have seen multiple in the 20" range follow my streamers. If you want a guide for a float trip(which I highly recommend) go with spring creek outfitters. Also great hopper fishing in the summer with big stonefly, and prince nymphs as droppers. @ heavy dropper flies and a big foam dry on top works like magic.
Osny_fishing_adventures York would be a tough county to find accessible brookies in. However, over in Cumberland there are some amazing brookies on Big Spring.
Wooly Bugged that's awesome!! I'll have to go check it out. Is it regulated class A water, or is it not class A. Just don't want to go over there with a spinning rod and end up going all the way back home haha. Most likely going to bring my fly rod anyways though 🖒 heard there are also some brookie streams in lancaster!

Frankie Shoenfelt you bet Frankie, they were hammering that nymph. Couldn’t get them to take anything else, no joke.
Wooly Bugged Thanks for giving them try.. Been 2 patterns of the same tie. Catching lots of Wild Browns also.
Keep up The Great Work. Mike..

Nick Demers wow, I can believe that the Savage holds some secret giants!
Another great video and for just starting out those guys can fish! Great to see and best of luck to you all.

Big Papi I’ve gotta tie up some foam humpys, sound like it’d be a great pattern. Thanks for you comment as always Big Papi!
New fly fisher here love your channel
There is nothing like small streams and hungry fish be it dry fly or nymph, it just doesn't get any better.
LSHiking love it!
Man that was some clear water. Love that shot at 4:09 and that last brook was a chunk!
West Virginia WILD the water in that area is beautiful and seems to be high quality because of the extensive bug life. Been out at all recently Cody?
No been to busy man. Need to i think Im starting to withdraw lol
Demoralizing is the best term to describe the lower savage

New sub~! Great content!! I love how you preview your rigs each vid.
Great video!! Need to find some more places with wild brookies around my area, but there seems to be no native brook streams anywhere near york pa 😂

This video is old but um you should use mono when fishing dries because it floats and flouro sinks

Poplar lick is never "deep". It generally runs between 1-2 feet in most areas with an occasional deep pool.
People have asked,chest waders it’s not a foot deep?😎
Keep em coming Mike!!!
How far are you guys from the dam?
A WOOLY BUGGER!
Immortan Jon that was for you Jon!
