      for those who were asking, this was mid/late UK punk.. like 79 if I had to put a year on it. Still very much punk and Adam and the Ants had a hardcore punk following back then.. of course they went more commercial a couple of years later, well who wouldn't when offered fame and money.. not that they saw much of the money

    WOW!!!! I do not know how this gem has escaped me all of these years as much as I've scoured about for his stuff - RUclips is crazy with the stuff they keep hidden until they decide it's OK for you (in this case 'me') to see it.     The more I listen to this and watch it, the more I love it. It's fascinating how Adam's voice changed over the years. I think he worked hard at it. He's a brilliant vocalist, dancer, guitarist, composer, actor, abd entertainer. He's one of the greats.

    Well he didn't need plastic surgery, he was cute even then. Still had an idiosyncratic way of moving but love it at end when he leaps at other band member.

    I use to wonder why Adam Ant was considered punk.
    I always thought he was pop.
    Now I get it.
    His early work was much different.

      First things first I am not a dude, and secondly my Aunt who was born in New York has been a fan since the 70's . WAY BEFORE GOODY TWO SHOES...back when he was punk rocking in clubs with the Sex Pistols..
      I am 25 and I love his early stuff.

    For those who were around at the time there was only ever one Adam and Ants with a cult underground following, Stuart Goddard ( Adam), Andy Warren (bass), Marc Ryan (guitar) Dave Barbe (drums). There was a decadent edge to them never recaptured. RIP Adam and the Ants

      It's not Dave Barbe on drums, he wasn't actually in the Ants when this was filmed. Infact I am not sure many will know who the drummer is on this clip

      @@richstevenson7955 Kenny Morris of Siouxsie and the Banshees. The full Banshees also filmed a video during this session (Love In A Void) but the original video footage of that has never shown up, nor have the Electric Chairs and Chelsea videos.

    I have to add, I was lucky enough to actually meet him last month & have a nice chat. What a lovely man! And he looks amazing. Sure, he's colouring his hair & covering his baldness with hats, but I'd give anything to have skin that's aged as well as his!

      He would do that to anyone at early gigs. Band members, audience - very often he would get himself in trouble and get badly injured by audience members retaliating.

    Yeah, I've seen him lately. Up close. And about to see him again in a few weeks. He looks fucking brilliant. He's close to 60 & has aged much better than many others younger than him (have you seen Peter Murphy lately?). As to your other comment above, Adam didn't drink or do drugs, unlike most "pop stars", which I imagine is why he's able to come back & tour like a mad man again, after all these years, & look better than most doing it.

Kenny Morris from Siouxsie & The Banshees was a fill-in drummer as Dave Barbe was not yet available to join the band full time and they'd already sent the first dummer Paul Flanagan packing by this stage.

    Is saw Adam Ant and Billy Idol back in 1981 or 1982 I believe it was have to dig my ticketstub and I aslo have 2 tee-shirts form that concert. I was 8 or 9. It was at Nassau Collesium on Valentines Day..I think ti was 1982 because I had seen concert footage of the Japn Tour and I think that was in 1981..Whatever..The Concert was called the Valentines Day Massacre..I practically ahd to go on a hunger strike to get my dad to tak emy best friend and I but tke us he did and we went wild. AWESOME!

    I must admit, I didn't know the early songs (before 1981), I'm just a bit too young. And I also must admit: I liked "Stand and deliver" etc. back then, but it didn't mean much to me. Now by chance I got to know the early stuff - and NOW I'm a fan!

      @@carsexmemories2052 It appears on a TV screen during a scene in Jubilee where Adam's character Kid watches himself on Top Of The Pops at the gang's flat. Jarman directed the film but he wasn't involved in making this video or the other videos of the Banshees, Electric Chairs and Chelsea - they were all outsourced and done in one single day - apparently Jarman wasn't even there for the shoot.

      He was his own creation in all eras of his career. The Ants mark 2 were doing a version of this on tour in November 1980, it would have ended up on the B side of one of their CBS hit singles sooner or later, only the owners of Jubilee beat him to the punch and reissued the 1977 version on the B-side of Deutscher Girls.

    Stuart wasn't hiding his British accent early on, later with the ants and solo, his accent is faint. He sounds a lot like Jonnie Rotten with that harsh accent.
