I vote for Helen’s idea; a new tarp with proper tie downs. It’s a lovely barn. Good luck!

NO - this will not work. If you do this, you should be prepared to run around in your courtyard with hard hats. At the slightest small storm, you will have flying skateboards above you. For the roofers ladder, you can rent one, but this is the last step to put up the ridge tiles once the rest has been fixed. For the missing or broken tiles - remove them from the inside and slide them in from the inside. If the purlins are rotten or broken, you can replace those parts also from the inside. The biggest challenge will be if you have enough old replacement tiles on site. Newer tiles don't fit with old tiles of this type.

Not having seen the other side of the roof, I don’t know if there is a problem on both sides or just the one side shown in the video. I’d suggest as your temporary measure, putting wrapped board on both sides of the roof with tarp connecting the two so covering the ridge tiles. The tarp connection would function as the ‘hook’ you’re looking for. You might still need weights hanging from the boards though as I don’t think they are heavy enough to withstand heavy winds.

So glad to see you. Yes, investing in proper tools i.e. roof ladder is a good idea. And will save you in the long run. I had that dessert in Scotland years ago and it was amazing. I could only manage a small piece.🤗🇨🇦

Helen, I'm wiping the tears from my eyes as I write this. Will you ever learn? You need to listen to the little voice in your head. I don't mean your husband's. No disrespect to Paul, I'm sure he's a sparkling conversationalist, but you are the more analytical between you.
Paul, you need to acknowledge your wife's reliable and consistent intuition. It's okay to have an intelligent wife, some might even consider it a plus.
I loved the cooking segment. It looked deadly delicious.

Why dont you just fix the barn roof correctly from the get go? In the long run doing it with the wood may make the roof worse. I do love your channel and love the cooking portion

Noooo ! If a tarp flapping brought tiles down heaven knows what damage this will do to what’s left of your roof - please don’t do this - as others have said repair from the underside or perhaps bite the bullet and ask a roofer ? You could make a very expensive mistake if you try this guys. You are troopers but this is not a good idea

  • @celestee.garcia2571

Can you erect the scaffolding inside the middle of the barn and work from the underside of the roof? You would be standing straight up. Remove the broken tiles and add them to those plywood pieces, lift the panels up into place to fix the holes.

Yay! Lunchtimes At The Chateau is back! That sticky toffee pudding looked AMAZING!!!! I want to make this. That luscious cream! If only we could get cream like that here -- they pasteurize it all until it's dead. (I wish I knew a farmer with cows). Treacle and molasses are different, though both are part of processing sugar cane. Treacle isn't widely available here in the states. Molasses is easy to find and sorghum syrup is usual in the South -- we smother it on a hot buttered biscuit (the bread kind not the cookie kind, like a scone but fluffier and not sweet). I'm going to check to see if treacle is available here as we do have a large British food section in my local grocery store (we have many Brits here because of the banking industry) -- I always like checking it out. I'm a huge convert to "digestives". There's a chocolate orange one that's really tasty! The Heinz canned beans are a curiosity. I know y'all put them on toast which y'all just need to stop. Because it's weird. But we can't say much because our breakfast gravy is white (it's made with milk) and has sausage in which is weird, but delicious. Thanks for the recipe, I'm gonna have to drag out my scale. Do I have a measuring cup in metric?
    Cheers from North Carolina USA

I think it is a bad idea to use wood on the roof adds extra weight break more tiles and hard to secure oh boy

Wouldnt it work better if you screwd the wood on from inside the barn. So underneath the roof so to speak that way tiles wont get in the way

Maybe this is the time to speak to a builder for proper advice. A roof is a very dangerous place and needs specialist assessment. Please don’t hang heavy boards. They will do more damage and you could end up with out any roof on the barn and damage to anything nearby including children, pets and yourselves. This is seriously one for the experts.

We’ve also noticed some very bad looking cracks in some of the walls near the pool side of the barns which may need addressing equally rapidly!

Ok buy a roofer’s ladder. It’s essential. It needs to be repaired properly and doing a temporary job is a waste of time. You have a lot of buildings. A roofer’s ladder is an investment. Also proper safety harness and sturdy rings drilled into the walls to secure the harness, the scaffolding, etc. I’ve just deleted a whole rant and calmed myself down. It’s not my roof, not my job, not my responsibility. However, I have decided to unsubscribe now because you give me too much anxiety. Plus I’m on a blinking diet and now I can’t stop thinking about sticky toffee pudding. Deep breaths. Good luck to you both.

Treacle (/ˈtriːkəl/) is any uncrystallised syrup made during the refining of sugar. The most common forms of treacle are golden syrup, a pale variety, and black treacle, a darker variety similar to molasses. Black treacle has a distinctively strong, slightly bitter flavor, and a richer color than golden syrup.
