SPLURGE or SAVE? Testing the Chi Spin N Curl vs. Kiss Instawave Automatic Hair Curlers
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
- Today I'm putting two automatic hair curlers to the test: the Chi Spin N Curl, as seen on TikTok, and my current favorite: the Kiss Instawave. Can you get the same results with the cheaper alternative, or is the expensive option worth the splurge? I'll be testing them on my short hair that's very thick and wavy. Let me know in the comments which automatic hair curler you think did a better job!

I bought the CHI Spin & Curl this week so I could style my hair for a wedding yesterday. I absolutely love how it worked and received so many compliments on my hair. Curls stayed over night too! So glad I purchased it!
Yes, the curls last!! Thanks so much for watching and sharing!
I don't usually get into tutorial videos. I kind of fast forward through and just watch the parts I need. But your commentary is amazing. You explain things very well. You make great points, very clearly. You're just... really good at this! While also being natural and relatable! You've earned my sub!!
Thank you so much, Greta!!
Thank you for reviewing these side by side! I always go for the pricier options when it comes to my hair and so glad that you showed is actually worth it here! Thank you Miranda! ❤
Definitely worth it! Like I said, good hair tools will last as well!
@@slashedbeauty do the curls last a long time
@@IcedCoffeeLover33 That would moreso depend on your hair type but for me, I can get 3ish days out of them
@@slashedbeauty 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Loved them both but definitely agree with you on how awesome the chi’s customization aspect is and I do think the chi side was less frizzy. I think I’ll have this on my bday list this year! Thanks so much for this video!
Yesss!! And the CHI curls lasted to the next day WITHOUT hair spray! A little looser but still defined! Thanks for watching, Elizabeth!
Thank you so much for the review. I've seen the Chi, but never watched to see how to use it and thought it might be gimmicky. BUT, after seeing your video, I am intrigued to buy one. Maybe for once I can curl my hair with ease. Your hair looked fantastic!
Thank you! I absolutely hate styling my hair so tools like these need to actually help me and make it quicker for me to want to use them and I definitely like the CHI the most! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 💜
Oh yeah, the CHI side looks so much better! I love that type of curl in my hair as well because it lasts longer!! 💖💖
Exactly!! The next day they loosened slightly but still very defined compared to the other side (and without any gel or spray!)
You sold me on the Chi curl, I had their hair dryer for 10 years and loved it
Great video! To the point and love your comments and comparison during the video!
Thank you so much!! Glad it was helpful!
OMG! Great love it! All your videos are amazing!💖
Thank you Margarita for all your support 🥰
Oh my gosh! So glad you did this video! My thick hair is so difficult to curl and I got limited time!
Edit to add: the chi side looks smoother and healthier!!
Absolutely!! Glad you liked it!
I do not even have enough hair to use one of these and I enjoyed this! You do really good work, Miranda.
Aw thank you so much Maureen! I appreciate that you still watched and supported! ☺
I wish I cared enough to curl my hair everyday, or any day!! It looks so beautiful. The tight curls look so good!! 💜
With something like this it makes it so much easier to style hair regularly-- I usually haaate doing my hair!!
Lol My daughter feels like you do! She’s 53 and doesn’t even want to “mess” with makeup! Oh well….
I watched another person using the Chi Spin N Curl and she wasn't as articulate and organized as you. The time spent was well worth viewing because you compared a product that you have used prior to the introduction of something new. You gave me a convincing reason why I should look into the purchase of the Chi Spin N Curl. I am conscious of the value and cost of a product and I research what I buy more often now. The newer version is now in a rose gold barrel. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your kind words. A lot of people criticize saying I talk too much/videos are too long but I really just want to give everyone as much info as possible!! I appreciate you watching!
I'm glad I came across this, it's one of the few beauty product reviews that is down to Earth and to the point, it's so much easier to watch than so many other beauty product yt channels that are loud, fake and self-absorbed...thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
@@slashedbeauty i like the lava color
Thanks for the review. Just FYI, I might have missed it, but I didn’t hear any mention about hair length issues with either. I have the Chi and it was impossible to use with shorter hair as you didn’t have enough hair to grab onto the barrel, but I was able to a little easier with the Instawave.
Yes I actually mention the opposite-- with the Chi there's also a limited amount of hair you can work on due to how short the barrel is, so I imagine for longer hair you'd only be able to curl your ends.
I got so scared when I saw the smoke rising up from your hair 😂🙈
I usually can't get curls to stay in my hair because I have pretty fine hair but also a lot of it. The only thing that works is the babyliss automatic curler but I don't quite like the curls it creates because they're too tight for me. Maybe I'll try the CHI 🤔 it seems to create bigger curls
Ooh yes I've tried that one and it took forever because it works in such small sections for tight curls like you said. Maybe you could get away with the 1" in this tool!
I thought the Chi side seemed bouncier and as you said, had a better shape. A striking difference. Great video, very clear and covered all the bases.
Thank you so much!!
I can tell the CHI tool is making your curls smooth and adding bounce. I might wait until my birthday or tax returns. I'm use to no heat strategies since my hair is on the fine side.
Definitely, and the curls lasted longer too!
I do think the CHI side is less frizzy. Love you videos!
Definitely-- I hadn't noticed until I watched back the footage. Thanks Melissa!
Loved your review I have been thinking about getting the chi curler for a while. The only thing I will say is it seems u were able to grab thicker pieces with the chi maybe that makes it a faster curling time then with the kiss your pieces seemed slimmer. Great review 👌
Yes, but not too thick that it would trigger the tangle alarm! 😂Thanks for watching, Patricia!
@@slashedbeauty yes 👏🏻 I just bought mine yesterday can’t wait to use it!
I'm growing my pixie out and could never manage to curl my hair myself with a regular wand (just too thick and i don't seem to have the skill) so I am looking forward to trying the CHI
I'm eager to hear how it works on shorter hair! Be sure to circle back and update us!
The chi one is awesome I talked my mom into getting one last year.
I think the features and end result def make it worth it! Thanks for watching!
Very informative and helpful thank you ❤️. How long does it hold up threw out the day . I like the Chi tool did great job ❤️💕
I didn't add hair spray and the Chi curls were still bouncy, just looser the next day!
Very nicely presented. Your old curler did a better job, it looks more natural. The Chi makes the curls look childish. Please do a Miupur vs Chi. Thanks!
If you hair spray the curl or pin it up when it’s still hot it can help maintain the curl for longer, but i still think this looks super pretty and i wanna try and buy the chi!!!
Great tips!!
My butt was using it backwards haha. Wasn’t until you said side that says facing your head did I realize it 😂
Chi. Definitely
Good for you on doing your hair. I have thin, fine hair and am still like “nah.. it’s too much work”. Oh, and I’m also a cosmetologist.. 😂
Hahah I usually hate doing my hair so any tool that can make it easier is welcome in my book!!
In your opinion between both tools which one would you suggest for long hair & when I say long I mean it’s almost to the top of my hips 😬🤗
I don't think the CHI would be good for long hair to be honest because it can only take a certain amount to fit in the barrel! I've seen people with long hair use it but its more just curling the ends-- and if you feed too much in it it will stop half way!
Looking great today ☺️❤👌
Thanks so much, Katy!
Hii hopefully you see this comment even if it is 2 years later from when you posted the video. So when we want to straighten or curl our hair it doesn’t matter if our hair is wet from heat protection spray can we directly apply the tool to our hair with the heat protection wet hair?
I would say don’t make it WET but a little damp is fine
The chi side looks so beautiful! Can anyone tell me if this might cause heat damage? Thanks
You can play around with what heat setting works for your hair and always put a heat protectant spray on first!
It's now October 4, 2021...are you still using the Chi and do you still like it?
Yes! I wish it could handle more hair at a time though
I remember when the Conair Curl Secret came out in 2013. It was interesting but you had to use the smallest sections. I would rather apply some product and scrunch.
YES I had that tool as well and with my thick hair it just took forever!
@@slashedbeauty I tried it but returned it after a few uses. It just took way to long.
I wondering is the chi kind of like the in styler tulip or better have u used the tulip
I haven't tried that one!
I have a beachwaver and would love to see the chi compared to that. I feel like the clamp on the beachwaver makes the ends of my curls look bad
I stopped using clamps years ago for that reason! It always crimped my hair.
Maybe the smaller barrel on the kiss one would give you tighter curls, because you said you bought the bigger barrel because you don't like tight curls but you like the tighter curls the chi gave you. You have gorgeous hair either way.
These two are both 1 & 1/4 inch! I believe the heat and tension resulted in the more uniform curl.
I am sure you already know that the Kiss Instawave also has a more expensive one and the difference is that the cord swivels and it has one of the prongs that is located close to the barrel for a more secure hold on the hair, and it also has a beep once the curl has set which tells you that you can pull down to release your hair, and I think it also turns itself off if left plugged in for 90 min.
Yes, that's the newer version!
❤️
The insta wave doesn’t work for me so I’m stuck with straightening my hair
I wonder if the Chi would!
I don't understand what you mean about not being able to travel with it because it is only single voltage? You can buy European adapters if that's what you're talkin about. I lived in Europe and had to buy adapters for my TV and several other things that I brought from the US. They worked great! I hope this helps you!
The adapters only change the plug type-- single or dual voltage refers to the actual electrical voltage that powers it/that it can handle, and countries have a different standard voltage that their outlets put out. If an appliance is single voltage , it'll say something like 110V only on the plug. Dual votalge will say something like 110/330V. If there's only one number and you bring it to a country with a higher voltage, it will literally overcharge/fry your appliance. If it's dual voltage, that means it can handle a range of voltage levels.
@@slashedbeauty now, I understand! That makes total sense. Thank you for explaining! Love your videos!
do the curls stay in longer when you use heat protectant spray
hair spray yes, heat protectant spray unless it also advertises hold, is just to protect your hair from the high heat.
@@slashedbeauty gotcha
I’ll sum it up for you guys: buy the CHI and keep your hair!
The Chi, not lava, in mint is $59 on Amazon.
Well, ones a wave maker and ones a curler, so it really depends on what you wamt
The "wave maker" also creates full curls though!
The chi spin n curl did better I just bought it and I like it
So glad it works for you!!
SOO cute
Thanks so much, Livy!

Yay!!! Thanks so much and welcome to the squad 😎
"Wow, it's strong..."
Ma'am your head is smoking.. 😳
Duh😂duh this was such a waist of time , but thnx
It's so funny you think that your old machine is better than the chi the girl that she made looks way better defined
I didn't say I liked the old machine better...?? I specifically said the CHI was worth it due to the better definition, less frizz and longer lasting curl.

These were great tutorials. I received the Curl Secret Infiniti Pro by Conair. I haven't used it yet. However, now that I have seen your tutorial I will give it a go. I'm from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦.
Awesome!! Good luck and hope you like it!
