I personally would have put it in a museum, but that works too. Wherever it is, it should not be displayed like it is something to be proud of.
Sadly there are people, especially on the right, that do not agree.
That's what most democrats are proposing, when the say "Let's remove these statues", and Republicans vehemently oppose that. These statues do belong in museums, in my view, with information contextualizing the historical reasons for which they were constructed. However I don't feel bad, even in the slightest, to see them being torn down in this way. If conservatives won't accept these statues honoring literal Traitors to the United States being moved carefully into museums, they'll just have to accept the alternative which is them being destroyed by people who are sick of glorifying Treason against their country.
They were put up literally to cause pain and enforce white supremacy. People have been asking for them to taken down and its been refused. So guess what, people are fed up. It doesn't make sense that they're up in the first place. People are taking them down. What now? You're going to criminalize and punish these people when you can't even punish cops who kill?
It costs money to house the statues indoors, because you have overhead expenses. Leave them outside, because it's cheaper.

He was part of the savings and loan scandal that hurt a lot of people in Arizona. He was for bombing innocent lives in Iran. He chose Sarah Palin as his VP pick (that alone should disqualify him). How do you know what that means for each individual, Joe? (By the way, I am Latino and from Texas, too.) While I will not miss the Confederate flags being flown in public spaces (as I never really cared about those emblems one way or another), I have friends who have hung Confederate flags on their cars and consider them as only symbols of Southern heritage. Do I understand that? Not really. But neither do I automatically attribute that to racist attitudes or notions.

I appreciated Sonny’s point. Living in the south, particularly when traveling, if I see the confederate flag I keep it moving. There may be people who feel the flag is a symbol of heritage but I know there are plenty that see it as a symbol of “the good ole days” and I’d rather not determine which type of person I’m dealing with when I come across them.

This doesn't erase history. Instead of destroying statues, add information on the statue stating the full truth of these people. Dedicate a park and other areas to civil rights Champions. Erect statues in their honor. These people include all races everywhere. Teach children the truth. Celebrate the brave people of the past who sacrificed themselves to help others. There are so many great stories to tell.
