More than fifty years I've been listening and learning the music of The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem and The Dubliners. They've provided me with a life time of favored music. R.I.P. Lads. We'll not forget you. Safe home.

Our Sunday (1960's) routine after Mass and while the breakfast was coming off was to listen to the Clancy Brothers albums. We still have them all. We know most of the songs. We have our Dad, who self taught himself Gaelic and played the pipes with the original Clann Eireann band in Bay Ridge, for ensuring we knew the music and songs of our heritage, and the likes of Eric Bogel and the late Ronnie Drew.

God bless you Liam and Tom and Pat and Tommy M. You were the lads that took Irish music to America and the world and shook the barley. hopefully some young lads will fill your shoes and carry on, but it doesn't look promising at this point in time.
To all RIP and may God bless.

I discovered the Clancy Brothers back through their live recordings in the late 60's. Liam's soulful singing and playing has stuck with me ever since.

Great, very great this all is!! Little sadly i discouverd the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem a little too late. But very, very luckly there is the Internet\uTube.... i started in the early eighties with the Dubliners, saw Luke even twice before He died. The Clancy Brothers& Tommy Makem i encountered some years ago. But i saw also that clip of Liam’s funeral, wich is FANTASTIC !!

The punkfish is right. In fact, they are probably here already, but maturing. We are remembering the fruits of Liam's nearly 60 years of exoerience. In 1960, he sang a good rousing song, as a sound journeyman. By the noughties, he was a master, who got inside a song and made it his own story. His own legtacy is eternal. His heirs have yet to grow into their legacy, but they will. God bless you Liam; rest in peace.

Here's to Liam. You, Makem. and your brothers carried traditional music through some tough times and are largely, but not solely responsible for it being alive and well today. No senseless argument from me. Farewell to an exceptional musician.

@tillyireland You know what the great thing is though? Someone will. Someone will come along eventually that is up to this standard. The onus is on us to just stick around long enough to see it. I'm 24 and not sure I'll be able to. But that's the beautiful thing about music/the nature and act of performing... Greatness begets greatness. So don't worry... There will be someone to carry the torch. We just gotta find 'em.

"FILL THEIR SHOES" I did not say there are none out there. Don't make my conclusions for me as you obviously don't know what you are talking about.
