I can’t think of a kinder and more deserving family. Lorraine, Jason and Penelope are talented, humble and hardworking! Congrats, guys!
Beautiful kind genuine words 👏
Totally agree 💯
I had seen Jason and Lorraine on other channels including yours, the Hollars, etc. but had never been able to remember what their channel name was. I was delighted a few weeks ago when they popped into my "Recommended" videos and I've been catching up ever since. Not only are they so smart and skilled, but they are absolutely lovely, humble people who are willing to share what they know and, perhaps more importantly, what they don't know.
I'm so happy for them and I am thrilled that they've found their new home(stead) so close to the friends they adore and who are there to help them out, as they've been helped by them before.
Lovely homestead and I'm excited to see what Jason does with the house and what they do to the land, garden, etc.

DUDE! Homestead Cribs IS A GREAT IDEA!!! you can do homes and then barns! share organization and work flow ideas! WHOOT WHOOT WHOOT!!!
Cheers to Jason, Lorraine and Penelope on their new property. So good to see Justin and family visiting. The homesteading community is the greatest.
Relax, just because you have endless possibilities doesn't require you to start them all now.
It's the journey not the destination that deserves appreciation.
Pretty certain you can give a "Hollar" to a friend who has a trailer that could move the Kubota here and back.
Unsolicited advice, a horse for a daughter brings her delight and in my experience keeps her coming around the ranch even after she moves out.
I never miss a video from Sow the Land. Jason and Lorraine deserve all the best. ❤
Jason Lorraine & Penelope. Congratulations.
Can’t wait to see how you transform the land.
Beautiful family and so well deserved 👏.
Take your time to embrace the beauty before you .
Jason this is going to take sometime.
Wow I can see the clogs turning 🤣😂
I am so pleased for Sow the Land! Such a good property! Real gems start with a less than perfect exterior until someone sees the potential and puts in the time.
Here's to many years enjoying and improving that diamond homestead you found 👏💎🌱
'Sow The Land' is absolutely one of our favorite channels! They are so genuine and creative! I can't wait to see the potential of their new homestead! They are amazing! I hope they consider offering different workshops to share their knowledge. The chicken processing workshops are so great and it gives me confidence to try myself. Thank you, Justin, for showcasing such a beautiful family! I can't think of anyone more deserving of the new land/home 🏠😍🌾🌱🌻🌱🌾🌄🐑🐄🐖🐐🐔🐓🐣🐤🐥🤭
I like the mud room idea. would you consider putting a washer and dryer in it to keep from having to drag muddy outer clothes through the house and to the basement.
Now this idea is brilliant
Like that idea! And use the wash water for irrigation
Like that idea! And use the wash water for irrigation
Congratulations to Jason, Lorraine & Lady P! Happy Growing 🌱🥒🍓🥦🍄🥕🐣🐔
I am so happy for Jason and the family. They really need this in their life, just like people like you to help them out.
I love it!Its hard to pick the food room or the barn as my favorite! So happy you guys got such a big beautiful property
Hello from TN! Might I suggest that you pay a good portion of your mortgage off, before you put a large investment into ALL of the buildings. You take your time, watch your land live through a season. It will tell you where low places that hold water are. After several months, who knows what could need repaired, or replaced. In the meantime, live with what you have, pay down your loan. They can only charge interest on the normal payment, any extra comes off the bottom line. Prepare for several months worth of payments! I can't emphasize that enough! When Danny was injured at work, we were lucky enough to have extra put back for this type of situation. We have always told our children to put back enough for 4 to 6 months worth of bills! It shows my age, that I think of people on RUclips, (Some of my favorites) almost like my children!
Get the Animals that you want, not what other people suggest For you. One step at a time! Fences first! Since your property line is different than the current system, you might want to fence it all in, as you can afford it. I truly wish you all well at your new home! GOD bless
I am loving keeping up with their homestead. They have grown so much even on their smaller land. God bless!
Jason n Lorianne you deserve this so much you've worked hard and saved and done without this has your namll over it to make and call a home
.God bless you all
I love that you offered to lend them your tracker. That is the way life used to be!
The reasons for the walls is you can hide messes easier. You can limit guests to a certain room and limits them seeing the house a mess.
It also means you can heat one small area rather than the whole house.
noise level...we have a open house...I know how bad it can be
Long time ago , before central heating and so on , small rooms were easier to keep warm and cosy.
We are in the process of buying a 1.5 acre property that has a lot of potential for a small homestead. It’s partially fenced, has an old hen house that needs some updating, a small pole barn, and a 30x50 metal building that half is set up as a shop and the other half is set up as a barn. We are pretty excited.
Sounds great. With good planning you should be able to have a very nice small homestead.
We are using this waiting process to do our planning, I’m sure we will have to make some adjustments once we get moved in, but we are definitely excited.
They are a. deserving couple. Very beautiful farm, and excited for them . I never see you guys with Art, and Bree anymore. Nice time on the home stead
wow, what an amazing place.....can't wait to see what you do with it! You guys rock!
Those really tall windows are for box fans for the horses.
The 60s & 70 walls everywhere was becuase of the cost of heating our homes. That is also why ceiling went from 10' to 7'.
Cape Cods and ranches are often cut into smaller rooms for just that reason. And carpeting is usual in many of the homes in more northern states (not considered "nasty").
Jason comes across as a wonderful person congratulations to them. But do listen to Henry,, he has his suggestions!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Congrats . I can't wait to see what the 3 of you do with the land . That is a beautiful piece of property . Enjoy and remember , Jason, It is a marathon not a sprint. Everything worth having takes time.
So dang excited for you all !!!! You are going to rock this blessing ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Justin for showing Sow The Land and the referrals.May we all bless them with more viewers, continued health and vision❣
I love my 2 favorite families teaming up!!!!
They need an abundance plus series, for this journey!
Ooooh....good idea!
Great idea!
YES!!
I believe they are on abundance+. I think they just post all videos to the platform.
That dishwasher was facing the dining area. Dishes went straight from table into the DW. It probably has a drying cycle. so stuff was clean and dry when taken out to be put away. Not how I would roll, but different strokes...
Jason, I can't wait to see your property in a year then 2 years from now! Beautiful. Congratulations. Thank you Justin.
Walls were to reduce drafts by basically having wind breaks, because not every room was well insulated.
Additionally, in the 1970s heating and cooling homes was insanely expensive. You had specific rooms/ areas that got heated or cooled. The whole "open concept" is only possible because our country is so much wealthier today, and central heating is much more reasonable and efficient.
Basically, we waste ship tons of energy now, whereas years ago people would not keep entire homes at 70 degrees 24-7.
@Movin On, thank you for pointing our that we are basically spoiled these days with heating and AC for the entire house. My 1940s house has small rooms and I love it because I can shut off the other rooms and only heat the room I am in. And it has big windows so cooling is ceiling fans and opening up the windows at night. Works great. When I hear how much people are paying for electricity, I am blown away! And we know that utilities are going to continue to go up in cost. Blessings to you.
Such nice land....you have wind also. Watch how the wind blows as it affects the garden a lot. Wind will dry out tomatoes and some of the other crops very fast and often need to keep the plants covered a lot. Visit with the people in your neighborhood and see what they do with the wind as far as crops, buildings and entries, etc. So much to learn about this place and it will be so much fun getting it in shape. Slowly is the word. So easy to lay at night and plan what you will want to do. Good Bless. Joan
Greetings from Ohio. Sow the land is definitely one of my RUclipsrs that I follow. I love that they have upgraded to this beautiful sturdy ranch home. Finished and dry basement. So important. Beautiful hardwood floors already in place. 14 acres of beautiful land. They have worked hard for this and I couldn’t be happier. I love seeing Lily and Pentolope playing together.
Hello from Ohio as well.
So glad you see the potential, thank you for your point of view. Cosmetic things can be changed, the house is great and large for their small family. Very happy for Sow the Land!
Compartmentalized heating was the reason for doors between rooms and smaller rooms (ie walled in rooms) because heating used to be more difficult.
Hello! My name is Beverly and I live in the mountains of NC in Ashe County. I just found your channel and look forward to following your journey. Blessings to you!
That baby has taken his coo to a howl
He just wants to gabble at the camera
That barn is Wow!!!
Jason has a beautiful spot. I’m so happy for him and the family. Gosh it’s awesome seeing this kinda stuff.
I've been following this family for 2 years and every time I eagerly await the next video! Greetings from the Netherlands
I am so excited for Sow the Land! Can't get enough of watching them move to their bigger homestead! Congrats to them.
I follow Jason and Lorraine. They really hit the jackpot with their new property, it’s perfect. It’s going to be so exciting to see what they do with it 🤩
Jason and Lorraine deserve all the best and I am so happy for them Jason and Lorraine it may be overwhelming for you at the moment, what with selling the old place, packing, not getting the keys to the new property etc etc is a lot on ones plate and all at once. Take your time get the feel of the place. Watch your first rains etc etc and getting your home in order is the first thing all ways the first thing every one takles so take a deep breath go slow and enjoy. We thank you for taking us on your journey. Have a lovely day.
Such a great family Sow the Land. Like yourselves hard working family. As Rebecca’s said it has great bones. Will look forward to watching the growth of their homestead.
I only have 1 acre and a daugther in 4-H years ago and some times had 17 sheep on here ya sheep and goats only 2 or 3 will clear the land for you . Good luck on your new home stead
Jason and Lorraine, nice property 👍👍 Miss P. What a nice big room 😎
My gosh! I have the same old kitchen cabinets (with regular nobs) and that same carpet (in the room next to the kitchen)
Luxe back in the day!
Jason enjoy your beautiful ride! The future has so many wonderful options for you and your family! So exciting! I am happy for your family!
Thanks for showing the new homestead of Jason, Lorraine, and Miss Penelope Contreas. I'm so excited for them too. It's so good to hear that they can heal the overgrazing fairly quickly. I didn't even know he had that other building that he was thinking about putting his workshop in. I'm so glad to see that Lorraine has picked out a spot for her garden. This will be so much fun to see how their homestead gets set up!
this is so exciting.. you could even have a horse/pony for Penelope... if you want.. oh.. and where is the puppy? and you could always paint the place a white/off white to brighten it up... perhaps live there for a bit before you tackle too much renos.
Real life, so refreshing. I'm so over of people only showing the "Pretty"stuff. Show it like it is! God bless your family and keep growing.
Justin, pass this message along.... Hey Jason, your prosciutto will do a lot better in the basement (since it's not damp) hanging near a window that you can open every now and then to give it some air, but don't hang it in direct sunlight or right in front of the window. Love in Christ to you all, from Italy.
I'm excited to see how they grow!
Your my kind of people. You celebrate with others and their success.
Love "Sow the Land"!!! Can't wait to see how they transform their new farm!💖
So happy for them to be able to do great things in the future!!
So cool! So happy for them! Love it! It has so much potential! I can see it already!🤗🤗❤🤗🤗
Wow! That is awesome!!!!! So happy for all of you.
Such a beautiful place. I love it ❤️❤️❤️ finally a big dream come true!!!
Love the huge entry. Mud rooms in our area could be an actual mud room or an artic style entry depending whether it is Spring/Summer or if it is Winter.
Justin, it was because of Jason's video that he recorded at the same time as this one that I decided to buy The Rooted Life. Beautiful book. I just got it about 15 minutes ago and I'm on page 9 (taking time to enjoy it). I love your conversational writing. It's like I'm reading a letter from Uncle Justin. Thank you. ❤🌾
Edit: and then I got to page 16 where you mention wanting to be like a favorite Uncle. Haha
Can't wait to see what interesting things you find when you start taking walls down. They hid cool things in the walls back then. Hope you find cool treasures guys. CONGRATULATIONS.
Thanks for the tour.
Stay safe and God bless you my friends. 🌱🐓🐖🐄🐐🌱 Lisa
I'm so happy for them and their family. They have inspired me to keep moving forward through lymphoma and continuing to build our homestead. So so happy for them! ❤️
Oh this property seems lovely, can't wait to see their progress! Thanks for the nice tour Justin..and baby Henry is just soo adorable! :) God Bless!
So many walls because having smaller rooms is easier to heat than large open spaces.
Congratulations Jason, Lorraine and Penelope!
Such a beautiful area for this amazing family to GROW in so many ways!!!! I am so happy to follow your story and grow with you, as I am starting my very first back yard garden.
I love your homestead community in North Carolina. My great grandfather came to Montana from Lenoir, NC in 1898 after a falling out with his father. He only went back once in 1929, and only stayed long enough to get off the train, attend his mother's funeral then went straight back to the train and returned to Montana and never left again. He and my great grandmother built a wonderful farm in the Bitterroot mountains of western Montana. I have been planning a trip to North Carolina and so enjoy watching the videos that you all put out for the region!
Thanks for the great tour, you have so much more space and you guys are going to make a great homestead here. Congrats and I look forward to see your touches everywhere.
Sow the land new property has so much opportunity for such awesome things , love the great advice you gave them 😎 ! 😊👍💕💕💕
I think there used to be lots of walls to preserve the desired temperature, people entertained more, and had more kids. Closing off rooms, save on heating and cooling. Closed rooms, hide mess from company and limit smells. More kids, having spaces to get a little quiet. Awesome new place!
Wall to wall carpeting was a luxury!
Yes! Though I ripped mine out of my first home after we had been there awhile - beautiful wood floors underneath. Toes were a little chilly afterward! 🤣
Loved the tour, thank you for sharing! I only have 2 acres, but it'd just me (I wish I had a hubby to help with the heavy stuff though). God Bless you all!
I know many folks have said this, but make a list with priorities, get settled first with your must do priorities and then look at your vast amount of land and start slow. Install the animals you left with and begin your garden. Then as these first systems are in place then focus on the next step. It seems when hobby farmers begin they try to get every animal and it becomes overwhelming. You do not want it to be so much you cannot physically handle it and it takes a toll on body and mind. Just remember what you had that sustained you and the family for the years you were in the smaller spot and slowly ease into the larger area. Don't get so overwhelmed and have it burden your health and family. Also, I'm not a grazing land expert, but the land looks like it needs to be given time to grow good forage for animals. It look like it's packed down and need arriated.
It makes me happy to see you two working together and how much your health is 500% better than not long ago!!!
Hi.... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca nice to see you love watching your videos, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🏡🎥👍👍👍
I actually love the pink bathroom tile. It’s soft and pretty
Totally love seeing what you find to do here! Have followed for a s long as you’ve been doing this. Prayed often for Jason as he endured those painful skin issues. And for Loraine as she’s helped him through it all. I knew It must have been so difficult not knowing what to feed him. Then the carnivore diet, what a game changer. I’m proud of you folks for your tenacity, your resiliency and faith in the Lord to help you through it all. I’m truly excited as I watch and see the amazing things you do. Even love Penelope s mud pies! I’m 82, and these homestead families bring my homestead memories freshly to mind. Even my childhood mud pies.
I love the realistic questions you’re asking. Often times those might be reasons people hesitate jumping into this lifestyle, buying land, or just buying a house in general.
Absolutely such a deserving family. Can’t wait to follow your journey on all the plans for your new property. God bless Sow the Land.
Wow! What a beautiful property! The barn is to die for!
I am so excited for them. Might be a lot of hard work ahead of them. But the joy they will reap from it. Will be enormous.
I was thinking last night about lilies of the valley but y’all have Lilly of the hollar
You got this, Sow the land... Love your channel and can't wait to see how it pans out. Glad Justin is helping your channel out by showcasing... But guy, you practically built everything on his... All the best wishes in the world to you and the family. Big things are coming and well deserved. Great community
If decoreted properly, I really like houses with lots of smaller rooms with walls everywhere. They remind me of old British/Scottish homes or Victorian homes with all sorts of nooks and crannies. But it needs to be decorated right so it doesn't feel dated or dingy. I'm so excited to see the transformation over time for their new home. They converted their old trailer home into a beauty, ans Jason's wood art is so good.
We originally lived in one room with 'lofts' used as bedroom spaces like in a 'Tiny House' so having many rooms started off as a 'Status' thing I'm sure but then we realized that it was easier to heat & cool small 'closed off' spaces. Brings down those costs.
Blessings of love - What a wonderful new adventure! Make sure you put a few chairs around just for day dreaming of what you might do with it.
That’s what I’m talking about! Way to go, Contreras Family! 🥳😃🐶👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you Justin for visiting Jason and Lorraine
Dang! You stepped into a gold mine! WOW that's awesome!
I am so happy that they got this land. It will come together in no time. For now just get to learn your land. Know what happens during a heavy rain storm. You have learned so .much since you left California.
I hope they are able to take you up on your offer to use the tractor
Soil test, Greg Judy bale unroller and livestock let’s get it dude
I’m so excited to see where they take this new property!
Somebody has barn envy.

I wish we could have someone come to our property and tell us what would be best in regards to which animals would work for our land. This is an awesome video! Love this journey!!!
Yes, I hope their channel blows up and Blesses them more. Thank you for sharing and helping such a sweet kind family ❤
Love Sow the Land! Thanks for the tour
In your video you said pasture isn’t hard to heal…PLEASE make a video on that one😁
