Remember, this was the same approach used with Rshan Gary in 2019.. Very limited snaps, showed flashes (was called a bust by dumb fans). If LVN can develop like Gary did, learn and find ways to use his freaky athleticism to his advantage like Gary did, watch out
Fans in general expect waaaay too much out of rookies. Most are not even physically mature, much less knowing proper NFL technique, reads, etc. Other than running backs, high draft picks who have big impact their rookie year are more the exception than the rule. Let’s just hope we see increasing impact the last 9 games, and keep him healthy for next year.
Big fan of these breakdown videos man. I am an O-Lineman in highschool and also a big Ravens fan. And it would be great if you could do a Tyler Linderbaum video as I believe he has been doing well this year. Keep up the great vids!
Nice to see someone breaking down his tape rather than dismissing him for not stuffing the stat sheet. The Packers are using a four man rotation with Rashan Gary + Preston Smith starting and Lukas Van Ness + Kingsley Enagbare rotating in. Van Ness also dropped out of a game and was used lightly the following week due to an elbow injury but is otherwise near inline with Rashan Gary whose snap count was impacted early by his ACL recovery and Enagbare's rotational usage. Preston Smith has by far the most snaps likely due to him being a trusted veteran and an absolute freak that has only missed a single game his entire career despite being in his 9th season. No one that follows this teams should be surprised by Van Ness' light usage as we've seen this before with Rashan Gary during his development. Even if Van Ness really turns it on during the second half of the season it will still be a 4 man rotation but it is possible he could eat into Preston Smith's snaps just a little and yes he could shift inside on passing downs but rookies Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden have looked pretty good filling that role as well. One could even argue that Brooks, Wooden and 2nd year DL Devonte Wyatt + Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare are all better pass rushers than run defenders and Lukas Van Ness is needed more on early downs than passing downs. All this being just a long winded way of saying not to worry about his usage and to be patient with the 22 year old
Enagbare has looked less consistent this season from what I’ve seen. Have seen reps where he looks too passive at the point of attack. He should actually be good at defending the run considering his size (draft reports said he could easily bulk to play 5/3 tech if he wanted to). I’d just play Van Ness more and accept that Enagbare will be a rotational guy down the road. Packers do more against the run than the pass anyway.
@@bigdoinks2006there’s a solid chance GB wouldn’t have got van ness without the pick swap. I remember hearing that the patriots were interested in him at 14
The Jets were gonna take him. The patriots knew it and traded up for him. But the Packers took him. This was part Jets switching picks with the Packers. All facts
One thing i complain about the Packers is joe Barry ( the defensive coordinator) doesn't play van ness at the same time with gary imagine those 2 bullrushing QBs van ness would benefit for the amount of pressure Gary creates
@@Captainkebbles1392 he's a good run defender but what I mean is he can create pressure with that bullrush give him some snaps on obvious pass downs with Gary on the other side and LVN sacks numbers might go up and I know sacks aren't the best indicative of how good as a pass rusher you are but let's be real almost everyone just care about the sacks heck with the pressure he can create maybe even Gary can have some extra sacks
@@Captainkebbles1392 and I'm not saying they have to be on the field at the same time always but I don't think I've seen them both at the same time at all and if I'm honest I rather see LVN and Gary than Preston on pass downs nothing against Smith he's awesome on the run as well I wouldn't mind seen him and vann ness on obvious rush downs as well but just think of the upside!!
@@bigdoinks2006I wouldn’t say he’s a good pass rusher yet, run defender, yes. His hand placement is good and he’s very consistent with it, which combining that with his natural strength, makes him a naturally good run defender. But he has the most limited pass rushing moveset ever. He relies a lot on his natural strength right now so he’s a power rush specialist that can create displacement but his technique isn’t there. He doesn’t have good lift on his rushes, seeing as his eyes are either at the same level as, or above his hands, meaning he’s creating more push than lift. Also, he doesn’t transition his two hand power rush into a long arm. It’s easier to run through half a man than the whole man because it focuses all the power into one shoulder to open the blocker up, but he doesn’t do that. Combining that with the lack of an arsenal wouldn’t make him a good pass rusher. His skill set will likely head the way Gary’s is at since they play so similar.
1. The first play was all Brooks. 2. The sack against the Bears was one of the best plays I have ever seen by an edge player. He recognized the fake, kept contain, ran down one of the fastest quarterbacks in the league, then rag dolled him out of bounds. I am sure Gutey was quite pleased after that play. Right now the Packers play good D, but should be playing great D. If they can get the best out of Gary, Clark, Wyatt, Walker and LVN; they would only need 14 points a game from their offense to win.
I don’t think he should be starting or anything but I’d like to see him in more obvious passing situations. He’s clearly more of a pass rusher than a run stopper but I’d like to see him get some more reps rushing the passer. If we can develop him like Rashan that’s gonna be a devastating duo for a lot of years.
Van ness should improve on his short area quickness & hand technique🔥 spin moves etc he got bull rush pwr but elite playmakers got a handful of hand moves
Spends too much time & energy playing patty-cake with the O Line. Needs coaching on how to dump the lineman. Study Reggie White's take on how to dump & get rid of the tackle fast and get on with the business.
U can argue that LVN will be good. He most likely will. But the bottom line is Packers SUCK for always drafting a project 1st round while passing immediate impact players. Wyatt still isnt doing anything. Stokes is most likely a goner. Love is Worst in League 4 years later. Gary been hurt 3 out of his 5th year. King isnt even in the league anymore. Jaire is the only one they really hit on.
@@YoXotic So tell me his stats, and what he really does? A few good plays here and there, cuz he only plays 3rd downs this year? Tackles?? hardly any. Hurt his entire first year, and last year. Does nothing to stop the run. Hes not a Crosby, Hutch or Bosa who plays every snap and makes a difference. U guys just repeat what some people say, squeezing cherry picked stats and dont understand the game. Preston Smith is far more valuable than Gary for a fraction of the cost and always available
@tieoneon1614 Unfortunately you are very incorrect about Gary not only does he have the top win rate in the NFL ranked above Bosa above Hutch. He is an elite run defender and is one of the only good run defenders on the team. Tackles do not equal good run defense that is just being an idiot and reading off a stat sheet. Injury also has no impact on how good a draft pick is because you can't control it when healthy he is one of the most disruptive and explosive pass russers in the league. Casual
he has flashed 2 times . top 15 pick looks miles behind Gary when he came into the NFL and he just does not look to have any juice , A plugger is a good NFL players to have but not when he cost a top 15 pick to acquire . Jordan takes this team nowhere. I am so done with Golden Boy.

I was thinking the same after watching a review of all the NFL no.1 picks which graded LVN very low and a "disappointment".
As a packers fan I don’t think he’s a bust, just drafted too early could’ve stolen him in the second imo and grabbed JSN or branch first round
@PointBreak5 lol. He wouldn't last past the 1st round. Where are u reading he would be there in the 2nd round 😂😂😂
@PointBreak5 yeah no chance he makes out of the top 20. Whoever said that is fucking dumb
