I seriously embarrassed my daughter who was a teenager at the time, when this track started playing in a record shop and we were at the top of an escalator (moving staircase?) on our way out. I can shout more-or-less in tune and so I did, as we slowly, slowly descended to the ground floor and more and more heads turned our way. Sometimes being a parent can be highly rewarding!

    GUITAR HERO ALERT!
Nearly every time Brad recognizes a song and can't remember where he's heard it, it turns out that it's a song that was featured on a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game at one point. "Take Me Out" is another one. This was in the second difficulty tier in the very first Guitar Hero (and reappeared later on the Guitar Hero: Smash Hits compilation). I think this might have been on the track list for the Guitar Hero arcade game, too.
Anyway, I don't know if that's where you heard this before, but there's a solid chance.

I always thought this song was about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand from his own perspective. He gets shot with his wife, but she dies first. His last words were begging for her to live. "If you leave here (die)... "I'm just a shot away from you" (they're both dying from gunshots) "I know I won't be leaving here with you."..."Take me out" (he's alone and dying and ready to go).

There's a great mix in that theme, because I also turned the kids on to some of "my" music! Obviously songs used for the games are impactful, so people will usually have a strong reaction one way or the other. 😊

Once the members came together, they settled on the name Franz Ferdinand for their band. The name was originally inspired by a racehorse called Archduke Ferdinand.[3] After seeing the horse win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, the band began to discuss Archduke Franz Ferdinand and thought it would be a good band name because of the alliteration of the name and the implications of the Archduke's death; his assassination was a significant factor in the lead-up to World War I.[4] In an interview, Hardy recollected that "mainly we just liked the way it sounded. We liked the alliteration."

I'm not heavy into rock, but I love this song. The first time I heard of this song was on Madden NFL 2005 and I play this song A Lot in the game. This song was popular in the mid-2000s, I also remember hearing this song on a PlayStation commercial at the time.

FF is good. But The Fratellis are great! "Chelsea Dagger" is the best song to start with - in tons of movies and commercials, and the official song of the Chicago Blackhawks.

If you like this I'd also suggest checking out The Fratellis song Chelsea Dagger. It has a similar vibes and I think it's from around the same time give or take. Also Kaiser Chiefs were a big UK indie band like these that was from that time, maybe check out I Predict A Riot, would love to see what you make of that one!!!

The song compares a case of two people in a bar eyeing each other up but being afraid to make the first move to a couple of snipers with each other in their sights who are also afraid to move and therefore give themselves away. Cool.

Do more indie/alternative rock bands! They are fun interesting groups with creativity. Brad. You heard it on radio, tv, video games and stores 😆. Yes. Kinda funky makes you move to the beat. I think that the song was cut a little short on that video though. "Darts of Pleasure" is another good one from them. Cool videos from them too.
Joy Division, Siouxee and the Banshees, Gang of Four and U2 influenced a lot of good '90s and '00s post punk, dance-punk rock groups like The Killers, The Strokes, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Metric, etc. 🎸 Check out these bands too! Also check out Silversun Pickups. Shoegazy alternative rock band. Very.much like Smashing Pumpkins.
