LOve it, WAVE is one of my favourite tunes. I love Charlie Byrd, always have, always will, and he sounds like HIMSELF; isn't that what we love about all the greats? Thanks Charlie for your valuable contribution to music and to the GUITAR.
I picked up on this recently. It is so beautiful that i listen to it over and over again and cry. Charlie Byrd is beautiful playing with his heart wave. What a nice sounding guitar, great trio.
Fortunately, I don't have to imagine. Byrd's primary residence was in Maryland and when I was stationed there, Ft. Meade, in the early seventies, the service club had Byrd and his trio there at least once a year, usually performing to a small audience of dedicated Byrd fans. Byrd was always polite, humble, and gracious, and delivered his usual amazing performance. I couldn't believe, at the time, just how fortunate I was to be able to witness his amazing talent, in such an intimate setting, and all for free. I love Charlie Byrd -- heckuva talent and heckuva guy.
Long ago, I got to see him play live at the Hong Kong Bar in the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. As I was standing in the entry queue, I could hear him begin playing "Corcovado" - one of my favorites. I just melted. The drummer was Bill Reichenbach, who was the drummer for Charlie Byrd from 1962 to 1973, and he had added a flautist - Mario Darpino. That night, Reichenbach suddenly started fooling around, and after the tune, Charlie turned to look at him as if to ask "WTF?" Reichenbach pointed to the first row of tables, and there was Buddy Rich.
Capaz d interpretar clasicas, samba y popular
While Charlie played Wave's melody, mmmmm.... good, really very good, but at the "guitar solo".....that remember to me to Santana in Woodstock. Anyway, nice performance
I don’t know the exact story behind it, but I believe he did one album with an electric. Went back to classical. that one album is rare! i wonder about the reasoning for trying and then staying with nylon.

セゴビア仕込みのフィンガーテクニック、音が柔らかくてあたたかみの有るボサノバでした😊

"WAVE" one of the greatest guitar pieces ever written. wow. this is too much! mosrite60
Being in that room would have been once a life time experience...I got goosebumps just listening to the performance. Just brilliant...
EXCELENTE TRIO !!!!!....interpretando temas clasicos en genero JAZZ. La guitarra se expresa muy bien en este ritmo, saludos amigos desde Peru.
A classical guitar through a huge Fender Tube amp! Unique sound! Great playing.
Ver esta enorme interpretación es un deleite.
Thank you very much for sharing!
Imagine being able to go to a small venue like this - and hear music like this

Id pay good money for that
I grew up in Annapolis MD and Charlie Byrd would play in the cellar of the King of France. Very small venue, maybe 30 people tops.

on a nylon string guitar? blazing like this? My new hero!
Charlie Byrd swung harder than any other guitarist I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them.
Love everything about this.
What a huge performance...Really great!!!
Wonderfully performed!!!
excelente, me encantó!!!
so cool man it flows well
Brilliant!!!!
I love this guy so much

BRAVISSIME !!!!

Bela interpretação!!
Missing Jobim but the Byrd is great as always.
Maravilhosa canção...
no see no Jobim...........
Bravo!
I wonder why he decided to play all his jazz on a classical guitar? I'm not complaining. It sounds great and different.
+banjoboy1941 He took part in master classes with Andres Segovia, which inspired him to devote solely to play on a classical guitar
Samba & Bossa-nova guitarists usually use classical guitar.

In some cases, I wish there was a way for me to read the comments minus any negative ones.
BeeHead Exactly!!!!!!!
Murakami brought me here
Nice, but...where is Jobim ?
No veo a Antonio Carlos??
Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass?
ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM ?
During Mr. Byrds solo it sounds like the bassist is trying to solo on top of him. The tempo loses that "bossa" rythym .
FERAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Telesss lek
You should have omitted jobim from the title ! It is misleading
Never clicked on a video so fast.
Jobim está en una estampita a la entrada del bar.
Very well played, but I agree the key is too low. Kessel does it magnificently.
Kevin Webb BULLSHIT YOU GO PLAY YOUR C G7 AND KEEP QUIET
I'm detecting a Spanish flavour here. Nice.
cinnaplid Right, Jobim is from Brazil.
I'm detecting an ignorant comment ..
Jobim is from Brazil where they speak portuguese.
Maybe Cinnaplid meant "a touch of FLAMENCO".
O ''brazilian jazz'' é o túmulo da música brasileira.

Every thing is soo perfect. Not amazing, considering the background of the players.
He was a very good guitarist, he had a horrible sound...
The key on this is too low really to do it justice.
What the hell are you talking about?
Was the original in D?
