On this episode I elected to find a way to get the replacement sleeper mounted back on the truck. I was concerned that if I waited until Spring, I may have to wait until Summer when the gravel surrounding the truck is hard enough to support the forklift. Since I had good luck driving the forklift around with the new chains on the frozen ground removing the differential in an earlier episode, I figured lets give it a go.
1st off I needed to spin the sleeper bunk, so I could fork it from the side in the garage. However, before I could even get started, my old Hyster was giving me trouble and would not go in reverse. After some research online, I figured out it was likely the foot pedal that I disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled and we were back in business.
Once I was out of the garage, to get the sleeper as close to the cab as possible and doing this by myself, I neglected to notice the clamps for the roof air conditioner lines were still in place and as I slid the sleeper past the opening I ended up damaging the sleeper on the driver side. Unfortunate, but as I mentioned before, I’m planning on repairing/painting the entire truck at a body shop next winter, so we’ll just keep moving forward. Also, the oversized 8” straight pipes that I’ll put on later this spring will camouflage most of it for now.
Now that the bunk is installed, I’ll proceed with installing the boot seal and utilize a space heater on the colder Saturdays where I can comfortably work on the interior where there are plenty or small tasks that need to be done.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions and support!

Was rewatching some of your old videos, and I realized how much MORE we're alike. Pete's, Superduty's, and Waylon Jennings. Dad?...
The attitude you have when things don’t go right is great. I wish I had that. Starting to look like a damn nice truck
Throw a little bondo on those scratches, dust it in, and she'll look a treat. Getting the sleeper on made a HUGE difference. She's really starting to come together now.
I always wonder why in english language, vehicules are female... In french we don't have the "it" pronoun. So things either have to be a "he" or a "she". For examples, cars are females (une voiture, une bagnole), on the contrary, trucks are males (un camion, un bahut). Star trek teach me that a spaceship is also a "she"... Funny.
appreciate the fact you share your mistakes as well as your triumphs here - great set of vids man
Accidents happen, all part of the journey - Keep up the good work!
Cheers from Ontario.
Just discovered this series last night and binge-watched the whole thing, absolutely love it! I like the way you’ve chipped away at the trucks issues “Little by Little”.
My Dad was a 40 year + man with Freightliner and I’d like to find one similar to your Pete to use as an oversized pickup.
Keep up the great work! I agree with Doc Moe’s comment below. You should have “Little by Little” lettered above the rear window on the sleeper.
P.S. The idea they still built trucks of this vintage without front brakes is disturbing. I guess with so much weight on the drive wheels they would provide enough stopping power.
I am binge watching the series and just about cried when I saw the scratches.
Looking good. I just got back from the Yukon with my old 92 w900l Looking forward to seeing that old girl running down the road.
Good taste in trucks, and music...WAYLON!!
Yes!!! A new video. It is coming along really well. I truly admire your ability to do that during a Canadian winter.
It's coming along, you are quite a inspiration working on the old girl even in the cold and snow.
Been binge watching your videos man. Love watching the truck come along little by little 👍🏼
I just dropped what I was doing, grabbed my dinner plate, cold one, and hit play. Like a kid on Christmas. keep it up brother, great job!
Chupa AND Cujo hahahaha did the same, cold beer and a great restoration, job done
👍👍👍
You have the right idea. Now is the best time to install the sleeper. It will really help when you get back inside the cab to get some work done. A little heater and some tunes and you're good to go.I'm lovin this project keep at it!
Believe it or not Brother. You give me a hope! That I can finish my project truck. Thank you!
YES! I’ve been waiting for the next episode time to get comfy
Keep up the good work👍
Ouch... Mad respect for your patience and "shit happens" attitude.. i sir..Would have completely lost my shit. Great video as always.
Looking mighty darn good brother!
Ur doing a proper job mate 👍 the truck is looking banging. I’m looking forward too seeing it done ✅ I’ll be with you on the first ride down the road mate but only in my head. Well done fella 👍👍
Good looking truck.. I'm not a truck driver myself but I do love the peterbilt.. keep up the good work can't wait to see the finished product
Aww man that deep scratch broke my heart
Gustavo Mendoza ya i won’t lie that it stings every day when I walk by it ... need to get those pipes on to cover it up
Hope she buffs out keep up the work man love seeing the progress
I'm not a trucker or a mechanic, but for some reason I love these videos.
It's been cool watching you bringing this truck back to life good job
Wow it's looks really amazing. I think that side lights on the cab and the sleeper looks cool on it. Little by little keep up the good work. I can't wait to see you get it on the road.
Man, youre dedicated. Subbed on ep.7, greetings from Norway.
Makes me wanna go find a 79 and do the same thing! Awesome work bud...
Very interesting, it's gonna look great when your finished...thanks for sharing, be watching!
My brother has a truck just like that same color and everything he bought another truck it was also blue 2005 model he drove it for a little bit but he didn't like all the modern stuff on it so he sold it went back to his old truck he's pretty much drove that truck probably 25 years or more it appears you're doing a really good job keep up the good work you seem like a friendly guy I hope it all works out for you🖒🖒🖒😁
Truck is looking good. Can't wait to see the finished product.
I’ve followed since your first video, too; can’t express how much I enjoy them and seeing the great progress; she’s coming along great- keep a goin! Great work and I’m looking forward to the next one. 👍
G’day mate I just happened to stumble across you channel and I became hooked I usually watch cars ect being restored but never a truck. I have always loved them and wonted to drive but due to a medical condition wasn’t able to, This restoration is fascinating as I’m learning about the problems associated with a resto on a 40YO Pete and doing the work in the snow as well, your really upbeat about it and you have a very pleasing attitude to the problems that you come across which really would get to me and you don’t get downhearted you just get on with it, I wish I had your temperament. Anyway I have subscribed and I really looking forward to following you though the process on your own too. Kind regards John fromTasmania Australia
I know you took great care of that sleeper while it was in your shop, make sure nothing would lean on it and scratch it, kids not to play by it etc... then damge it yourself....story of my life as i pulled my project GTO off the trailer and raked the door and fender on the side of the trailer fender to the point i had to source replacements.... lol been there brother.... all of us who acutually build stuff has..
I can't wait to see all of this come together. Awesome work so far.
Iowa 80 truck accessories sells a product called hush mat if you wanted to put a base down before you do your flooring. It works well. Love your videos
Your getting there man the cold weather makes it hard keep up the great work 👍
I watch ur videos all the time. I have a 1984 exhd pete, I will tell you if you get a rubber boot for a 379 you will be glad that you did. Also get the bars that go on the boot and the just screw the on and your screws go through the boot and hold it up so much better that the 359 pinch bars and boot. Anyway l love your videos.
You’ll have the best RV totter in the country in my opinion! The kids will love that back seat . If they are like mine we’re ya might want a door between you and them ! Lol .
She looks great
Yeah it does look good. It’s coming along nicely.
You're getting closer everyday!
Progress!
Bummer about the sleeper scratches, but 'stuff' happens.
Good video!! Cant hardly wait to see her finished!!
Love the Waylon music playing in the beginning of your video 🤠
Looking good ! Said this on the diff take out video, but you don't need to cut those break hoses. As long as the the hose isn't damaged, those ferrules don't need to be replaced.
dennis smith good to know ... I’ll be sure to reuse them as they look fine - thanks
How long did ya curse like a sailor before you calmed down, lol it happens to us all.
Lol. I would have been cursing too.
Cool Truck video man 👍😎
Nice progress, looking forward to see more.
You have a tough hobby. If you had an extra set of eyes that might not have happened. Could have been worse. Glad you're ok. Beautiful truck!
Going to be a nice looking truck.
The old girl is looking great man
Awesome progress brother. Lookin good! M insight blues is my absolute favorite
i love what your doing with this truck, excellent work i wish more people restored these gems instead of scraping them when they're done. ive seen dozens of these trucks get hacked up at the local junkyard for parts and the body and frames get tossed, sad.
starting to look the part good thing take time
Good taste in music can’t beat Waylon
been there.... done that.... with the dings and scratches, it's tough trying to do something like that by yourself, I'm assuming you are going to pull the sleeper interior out eventually like you did the cab.... a little hammer and dolly work and some primer and it will be as good as new, I believe those sleepers are aluminum so you have to be careful not to overwork it as aluminum work hardens easily but it's a pretty simple fix.... sucks when it happens though, I've got shrink film on the windows of my project so I can heat it and work inside while it's cold.... seems like your making some progress when you can get some heat into it ... keep it up, your an inspiration to those of us working on projects in the winter
Excellent travail!
Awesome vids thanks for posting. I want an old Peterbilt too some day!
I really enjoy your vids and seeing the progress keep up the great work bud !
She's looking beautiful
I love these videos, you’re doing awesome! If the drivers seat is a precursor to what is to come that’s gonna be a really nice looking truck!
Jason Smith ya I’m thinking it’s gonna turn out nice ... lots of little stuff to do now and fingers crossed the motors tight
Super job fitting it alone good bud. Scratch is an easy fix dont beat yourself up. Spoil yourself with some heat you've earned it. Catch you next time well done as usual.
Man I can't wait to see that truck run down the road again keep up the good work bud
Looking good. Hard work pays off.
Looking good.
Man I've been waiting for this video of the sleeper to be put on there truck looks really good so far
Great progress. Hopeful that your rear diff is intact.
Best channel Ive ever subbed. I always wait with great anticipation for the next vid. Cheers.
Looks awesome! I hope you paint the fuel tanks the same colour as the truck like it was before.
Its gonna be a BAD MOTORSCOOTER when you get done with it! Looking good Brother....
Once you get done it’ll be a fine ride
I freaggin love this truck! You've done great thus far! Sorry for your bad luck on the sleeper, but like everything else, it too shall pass. Keep up the awesome work man
Cant wait to see it after its all done.
its looking very good...
Great job ..... lots of work but it looks like you are doing a real nice resto. OUCH on the sleeper LOL
She's lookin good
Nice indy in the background that I spotted!
That is one beautiful lookin sleeper
dude you're hard core
No worries on the damage.. It's getting paint anyways.. Looking sweat. 👍
awesome job on the Pete so far keep up the good work that's so.ething I wouldn't mind doing myself I know where there is a 359 pete for sale in ontario just waiting for the right time
ken nickerson tomorrow sounds like a good day ... grab it quick before someone else does 😆
@@TwinStix I dont think its going anywhere
Keep going cant wait to see this thing finished...i think it needs a flat or drop deck trailer behind maybe that can be your next project after truck
For the floor put hardwood down like the snap on ones that be great for the dashboard
Take a heat gun on low to get the seal to fit around the sleeper. We do that when it's all type of temperature
mike nicholson nice tip thanks
Use a little bit of caulk as an adhesive for the seal get the clear one so it won’t be visible from the outside or the inside it’ll also help as a little bit of a seal if yours isn’t “perfect” to fill up some gap
Jacob Wain good tip thanks
No problem driver keep up the work your making great progress 👍🏼👌🏼🙏🏼
Starting to look like a nice truck
It looked like a nice truck when he bought it in my opinion
I hope it runs good for you man
Loving the series! If you ever find yourself in the west out near Vancouver, first round on me! ... as long as I get a ride in the old girl ;)
Stay warm over there!
Richard
nice truck
in 79 a lot of guys ran lights called double bubble lights from four states and red or Amber and even Chrome guards for them if you want I'm planning on starting up videos soon on 352 and a 359 restoration and this is just me I would have left the original sleeper on it but that's just me I know you said would cost way too much money to fix it but that's just me
As a forklift (FL) operator I have some questions. My FL usually have 3 sticks : up&down, mast tilting, and translation of the forks. Another one i use daily has even a fourth stick which gets the forks closer or wider as needed. How does your FL works? WOuld you do a video about it?
Thing the worried me the most is the lack of seat belt. Uusally death occurs when the forklift is overturning and the ejected driver, crushed by the roll cage.
Please drive it carefully especially on wet or muddy land. Keep up the good work !
Really starting to come together now. Looking forward to seeing you drive it.
Have you heard of Dynamat ? Be perfect for what you need, I cant recommend it enough.
Love watching the progress, have you ever thought about drilling more holes in the back of the bunk to put more 4 inch red lights facing backwards, I always find that looks sharp
Demzi Games read my mind...
I am getting excited haha and would you be able to get some video of the other truck that was at the farm ? Or pictures
Patrick Luchak check out my Instagram @359twinsticks there’s a few of old Red on there
Coming together!
Very nice but I'll bet those scratches were caused when you were hitting the sleeper with the chains as you were lowering it with the block and tackle. I immediately saw that and thought he's going to end up with some real scratches from those chains.
mike reece the deep scratches were from the brackets as they are in line with them and are horizontal but I admit I could have been more careful with the chain fall as well ... live and learn but the whole thing’s gonna be repainted anyway
Good stuff ,,, ty for the vids
At least you got that stupid first ding or dent out of the way. keep up the good work.!!
Are you gone paint "Little by little" on the truck?. I think it would look awesome on the back of the sleeper.
Your putting the sleeper back? RIGHT ON!
Love watching this project !!!! How much money have you spent up to this point ?? And how much more do you think your need just to get her up and road worthy ?? Great job keep up the dream !!!!
