I remember the first time I heard Calvin. It was John P. Kee’s Not guilty album and Rain On Us came on and changed my life. I remember thinking, “This is the kind of drummer I want to be.” Almost 15 years later, I’m still not there but I’m working.
DeShawndre Hill let’s face it, that album along with the performance he gave with JPK at the Bobby Jones Gospel Explosion the year before gave him a network long before social media ever existed. I first heard the cd track off a JPK Nothing But the Hits compilation in 2007 and thought Chris played the album but listened to that drum solo and it sounded far advanced than Chris Kee’s solo he did on the video, then heard JPK called out “Calvin Rodgers” I bought everything with C-Rod’s name on it from then on. Calvin changed the name of the game for gospel drummers and at the right time too.
I must have heard this 4 years ago, and looked for it now and again since -- only to find it for the second time right now. I love this style and his taste in fills. Beautiful dynamics, one of the most crucial things people forget drums can use to GREAT effect. Effective and amazing drumwork.
Another great performance from one of my favorite drummers and people. Calvin's sense of time, independence and speed are legendary. Love watching him play!

How am I supposed to play drums after watching this?? I'm just gonna cancel the 3 gigs I got in the next 2 weeks. My reason?? Apparently I need to practice more. I feel mediocre now.
This video brought out a different side of C-Rod that people need to see, those CHOPS that he does. This is why he is top in my list as inspirational cause these dude is cold blooded. Again...not a bad video from this beast here. You see in the video he FEELS this one!
