Also that teleporting diamond choice was totally unnecessary, like ya boi is sun attuned and he can perform other elemental magic good as well.

MC is likely a blood attuned and has incredible potential. And since those essences are our souls I wouldn't be surprised if they contained our magickal potential too, so whoever is attacking us wants us dead in order to use our essence and magickal potential. And Professor Swan is probably the MC's mother.
It just seems to fall in place with the constant fatigue from casting seemingly simple spells. Somebody mentioned that casting Blood magick is incredibly hard and exhausting, so it makes sense to me.
I thought that about Swan possibly. And good theory on the blood attuned, I'm loving this book
I don't think Professor Swan is the MC's birth mother, but good blood magick theory though.
