The solar system here is incredibly small yet very efficient. Everything electrical in the camper has been remade and reworked to go through very little electricity while allowing all of the comforts off grid and boondocking.
I agree wholeheartedly with Annacolleen. This is the most elegant and lovely camper re-do that I have ever seen. You kept most of the original ambiance that you could. And matching the turquoise refrigerator front and stove color on the outside trim is pure genius. This is one of the best preserved, yet modernized campers in my view. Truly a labor of love, and I can see why you fought hard for it. Bravo!
Thanks so much for the kind words. It's been a labor of learning and love. So glad you like it. :)
Oh, just so you know, it was years ago and never a fight. I just exaggerated it as a joke on the video. The ex said sell it and split the $, and I said I want it, After all I put my heart and soul into it. We worked it all out. I know I'm happy. :) ;)
Awesome job on the camper. Nice to find one with original fixtures.
Thanks! I got lucky with all the original appliances and fixtures being in such good shape! However the outside skin and much of the interior woodwork was in very bad shape. I almost didn't buy it, but at $500 I think it was worth it!
I love how you replaced the worn original laminate with the birch on the table. You made the repair and stayed true to the style. That really works. Absolutely gorgeous and a brilliant idea. This little trailer is a cutie and lucky to have you as an owner. You really know what you're doing and I, for one, appreciate that. Too many people get these little gems and rip them apart and "glamp" them or remodel them, making them look like current trailers instead of maintaining their originality for all to see. Thank you for that. Very, very nice job. Thank you.
Hey, thanks. I am glad you get it.
I once restored a 1961 Fan that had a maple and birch interior. It looked like a well made sailboat. It was beautiful wood work. I sold for a tidy profit to a pushy attorney. As she pulled away she told me excitedly, how she is going to paint the interior pink. All the beautiful wood covered in pink paint. Ugh. As she drove away I wasn't sure if I was mad or sad. Now I know it was both. C'est la vie
The older one's definitely have the charm of being cozy. You did a beautiful Job on it!
Thanks!
I like how it is all original, no color disasters ! Everything blends well did a good job of restoring kept it vintage yet pleasant !
Hey! Thanks! Yeah I'm not the "glamper" type. LOL
This was designed to be classic, off grid, and usable. I am a nature photographer and I use it as my base camp.

I have one of these.. I haven’t even began to fix up.. this is super motivation
Cool!
LOVE these old retro campers, Makes camping seem like your back in the days when families cared.
Absolutely beautiful! My favorite color. I was born in 1957. Made very well. You did a wonderful job.
Hey, thanks!
I have always loved blue, but since this trailer restoration and my decision to keep it, turquoise is now my favorite color also!
My husband and I have a 1967 14 Box RedDale pull behind trailer. We live in Longmont Colorado which just happens to be where The RedDale Coach Company assembled their awesome campers. We bought our trailer from a couple in Cheyenne Wy. So I know she’s traveled around a bit. I love that she’s back where she started. We were also able to keep all the natural wood walls and cabinets. Restoration is complete and she’s ready for the next 55years!!
Wow how awesome!! I'm in Berthoud just between Longmont and Loveland. I love my Red Dale they kept the old wood craftsmanship longer than most makers.
Maybe someday we can all meet up, and enjoy our campers. I love the vintage camper crowd. Some of the nice people I know. 🙂
Nice you did a great job renovating the trailer.
Thanks! A labor of love.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL job! I would love to have this! Thanks for the tour.
Thanks!
You're quite welcome.😉😎
I love the old wood and the aqua colored sink and appliances. Very cute old trailer. Love the vintage look with the modern conveniences.
Thanks! It has been really fun.
I love the barkcloth curtains! Nice refurbishment on a great little camper!
Thanks!
Sunbrella fabric with a vintage pattern actually. 😉😊
Looks great !
Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous! Love the real. Superior workmanship
Hey, thanks! 🙂
Oh I love love, this reminds me of the first camper we ever owned, just flip the sides, my husband myself and our three children had so many wonderful memories in our little camper, would give anything to have it back, kids are grown, we are on our 4th rv, Montana 33ft. fifth wheel, don’t enjoy near as much as our little cozy camper! we just had a ball in that little camper!
So awesome, thanks for sharing!
I have heard many a heartfelt story that remind people of their families from years gone by. Which is something that I love about this camper!
Absolutely gorgeous. I was born in 1957 and growing up in the 60's, my girlfriend 's family had a small camper that had these colors. We use to play house in it. This video brought back some very fond memories of my childhood. I wish I knew the make and model, but the color scheme is the same.
I grew up in the '60s too!
So nice to hear your story. I'm so glad my video gave you such positive memories. 🙂
This has to be the best tiny house I've seen. I like my cupboard spaces, toilet, and shower but for what's all in this tiny little space this is really great, bedroom dining room and kitchen and room for three. I think this one is exceptional.
Hey, thanks. It's been a labor of love. This space just melts stress away. 🙂
For a few months I lived in one very similar to this. I was always discovering new clever design features. The builders were very thoughtful about providing maximum utility in minimum space. It's amazing how much economizing you can do with just a bit of thought.
Indeed! That's why I really wanted to limit the impact of modernization and keep it true to its original form. And the wood is just beautiful. So much better than the modern plastic and fiberglass of RVs today. 🙂
This is just beautiful! Catcher in the Rye is my go to book for camping.
Beautiful little cabin on wheels. .love that you kept it true to its original state but also added a few little modern conveniences that are subtlety done. ..
Good job!
Thank you! 😉😎🍷
Lovely, first one I’ve seen with nice wood ! Great job!
Thanks!
Oh, it's all about the woodwork! 🙂😉
Awww, this really looks like a little apt.so cute.love the classics, especially when they're restored to keep it in its original style.nice suttle upgrade
Hey, thanks. It's been a lot of fun.
This is amazing 👍🏻 you have made it beautiful but still looks like a 1957 camper , very sympathetic reno ,
I love it ❤️
Hey, thanks so much. I am glad you understand my style. I like restoring things and have always looked back in wonderment how well things were made before the eras of plastic and fiberglass. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about historically perfect restorations with most campers. I can still choose modern comforts when needed. I am also personally not interested in "glamping". I don't mind it, it's just not for me.
Thanks again for your kind words and understanding. 🙂😊
That's a real beauty. You did a nice job on the restoration!👍😎
Thanks!
@@DonAshcraft yep!🙂
Just beautiful! Love the wood and turquoise look together and the curtains are just perfect. You've done an awesome job. Congratulations.
Hey, thanks so very much. 😉😊
@@DonAshcraft oh, thank you for sharing this video. I've been looking for months now and yours is the best I've seen. Wish you could clone it. :)
Love the turquoise. Funny how it is back in style! Love the subtle modernizations. You stayed true to the vintage but added to comforts of modern tech. Beautiful!
Jennifer S thanks! A labor of love.
In the dealership, coppertone was the most requested color.
Stunning 💖 I'm so happy you kept the originals 😂
The turquoise screams 1957! I love it. This was a really cute camper. Did a great job on it
Thanks! Definitely a labor of love.
What a great job on that trailer.... Beautiful. .. You can tell there is a million little things you did, behind the scenes that no one will ever know about but you. That's what makes it perfect. I'm subscribing. Want to know about these other trailers you flipped !
Thanks! I love all the hidden details. More to come. I am building a mini 12v evaporative cooler that runs off the solar system, to keep those summer days cool. ;)
Beautifully done. I love that you've kept the original look and feel. The original appliances are beautiful
Hey, thanks. 🙂
Nice colors. Spacious enough. Great that it can serve two beds. Cozy.
Thanks!
I keep coming back to this video. It's the best restoration I've ever seen, and the marine lights really spruce it up. This is an example of taking something great and making it better. Today's campers can't compare to the cozy cabin look of your rig. Well done. I'm so impressed.
Hey, Thanks.🙂
For exactly those reasons that you mentioned is why I love it so much!
Thanks again.
@@DonAshcraft Unless you hire someone or DIY an older camper or make one from scratch, you can't come close to the quality of your camper in a new camper these days. The new ones are so shoddy and not made to last long. Yours looks truly as a labor of love, and it's going to be on the road decades from now...long after the new ones are junked.
There's nothing like the warmth of wood. Love it.
Exactly!
I'm currently restoring a 1958 vintage camper for a customer. The entire interior was painted. I am restoring the old wood back to the fine grain that they used in '58. The customer is concerned that the wood will look dark and be unfriendly. I'm like, No way that it will be too dark - the warmth of the wood will be absolutely wonderful!!
@@DonAshcraft I've been looking at hundreds of travel trailers on youtube, some are tiny tear drop style and some are 50' monsters with every single convenience of a mansion. But if I were traveling the country and mostly staying in parks with beautiful outdoor attractions, i would be very happy with a modest sized trailer like yours. It's enough but not too much. You're going to spend most of your time on a lake, hiking , and sitting around a campfire and it can be towed by someone with half ton pickup or SUV. Plus puts you in a mood of appreciating nature and the simple things in life. And I bet the women really love it.
@@johnmazza9432 exactly.
And yeah. It's a woman magnet!
Nice job!
Thanks!
Love it!!! Great job. How I wish I had your talents!!
Thank you! Throughout my life I just learned as I went. If I need to fix something or fix something up I just learn how to do it and get it done. Anyone can do it. You just have to go for it! Just don't mess it up. 😉🙂
You have done a stunning job to this van well done
Thank you! It has been a labor of love.
It's actually not a van, it's a towable trailer camper. 😉
super cosy j'adore je suis fasciné parles anciennes caravanes restaurées c'est dun charme sa doit être bon de se reposer loin de la ville
Two people to sleep there but they better like each other. Perfect way of putting it
Hahaha! Glad you got the humor!!
Glad you got rid of your old baggage. Now you can enjoy the life you want. You are very talented and driven.
Thank you for the kind words.
Yes! That's exactly what I have been doing :) !
Brilliant! Love it mate. A work of art! I reckon a good caravan lasts alot longer than a bad marriage. Well done for standing your ground on keeping it. She would only have flogged (sold) it anyway.
Hahaha soooo true!!
Wow!!! She’s beautiful!!! Great job :)
Thanks!!
Do you have any other videos of ones you’ve restored?
@@NicoleS0913 Sadly no. I am a fine art still photographer and find little time to make videos. I sure wish I did though!!

Ok. Ty. Was just curious :)
Beautiful camper! all the comfort's of home! they make traveling and camping out a real joy! And if you fell on hard times you'd be set!
such a great re-do job, it looks beautiful. congrats.
Hey, thanks! 🙂
Awesome restore! I have a 1967 Red Dale. My wood was trashed, so I took easy route and went with paint. I love the feel of my Red Dale. My layout is different. I think this is a totally underrated brand. Good job keeping it original. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing. I totally get why you would fight to keep your trailer.
Haaha Thanks!
You did a magnificent job, it's really cute and cozy. I would love it.
Darlene thanks :)
Nice restoration. Glad you kept it.
Thanks! I still have it and love it. I use it as my base camp for my nature photography biz. 😊📸

Mines a 72 Jayco. Starting to look real good. I live in it full-time now. $500 for a home? Can't beat that deal with a stick!
That's really a nice looking camper! Love ❤️ all the wood detail.
Hey, thank you! It reminds me of the sailboats I grew up sailing in. 😉🙂
AMAZING!!! Great job!!! Its so nice and I love the turquoise & wood.
Bill Holden Thanks! Yeah, turquoise has been my new favorite color. And the wood on these old campers is just awesome. So not the plastic and fiberglass of modern campers. When you sit in this one it's like being in a cabin. So very easy to just relax. Ahhh…
Yes! That's why I prefer the older models - they have great character and soul. So glad you kept it to enjoy!
Good gracious you are so creative thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
My real job is finè art photographer. Shameless plug: donashcraft.com and: facebook.com/com/donashcraftphotography/
Love the colors. Curtains are beautiful! Table is beautiful too.
Thanks! The curtains are made from modern sunbrella fabric, so they should last for a very long time. The vintage pattern is so cool. My ex made them and did a fantastic job. It was her first ever sewing machine project. She hit an epic home run! :) :)
Ohh I love this little camper! The layout is exactly like my 67 lo liner, except the lo liner has more windows and a closet.
You have done a beautiful job on your camper ~ it really is like a cozy little cabin!
The colors and wood are really quite charming & the fact that it has the hidden power plusses are just the cherry on top!
Nice work, really nice!
Awe... Thank you so much!
This is very very nice love the colors very bright and cozy ! I wish you well and 😊 enjoy
Thanks! It is very easy to relax in and let stress fall away. :)
Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time. Nice job on the trailer. Gorgeous! Poo-Tee-Tweet!
"And so it goes."
Your camper is amazing!! It'a unbelievable that it was built in 1957! What a nice tiny house you have!! By the way, I (Roberta) love the greenish color!
Thank you SO much!
Now you can see why I love all things about your channel.
You guys are awesome! ⛵📸
@@DonAshcraft 😊
beautiful remodel. love to have something like this! cozy cute
Thanks!
Gorgeous. Great wood, great colors. Good job. I would have fought for it too!!
😉
Adore this! Great workmanship!
Aw.. thank you.
Beautiful - I admire your work
Thanks man.
Lime green was huge in the 50/s. Every old house I have worked on has lime green trim ,walls, or fixtures. The last redo was in the 50/s. Excellent job youhave done. That is real restoration
walter chiappini Hey, thanks! I think the color was called "turquoise" back then. :)
Turqoise? Maybe. Its a real common 50/s color. I know in the 60/s avocado and olive green was big too. The fifties color was lighter green. Take care.
Yup. The turquoise color from the original appliances like my stock Magic Chef appliances here in my camper is called turquoise by them. I have the original 1957 manual from them. It's really cool!
walter chiappini Don't forget "burnt orange". Haha that one still makes me laugh.
You take care too. And have fun with that new camper!
What a sweetheart of a camper! Love it❤❤❤
Awww, thanks!
, Very Pretty cabin, I hope one day to find a home like this, Thank You for your Video.
Thanks! Good luck in your search. 🙂
@@DonAshcraft Thank You.
Nice well done. My wife loves the pillows lol I like all the natural wood.
Thanks! The wood is everything to me. They just don't make them with that much care and cabinetry style anymore. I've grown to love the original turquoise enamel as well.
Your wife might like the curtains. They are modern Sunbrella fabric with a classic vintage tropical pattern. Sunbrella fabric is guarantee to not fade or degrade in the Sun. Inside the camper it should last a lifetime.
@@DonAshcraft That's for sure ! Oh wow good to know thanks that will make my wife's day!
Beautiful restoration 👏
Hey, thanks!
It's been really fun. 🙂
Really beautiful and cozy!!

Omg I love your camper. Very cozy and that's my favorite color!
Mz Marie thanks! It's now my favorite color too!
So glad you were able to hang on to that. I've been looking for a couple years now for a small camper that I can fix up and live in.
Juanita Sullivan Thank you!
I love it.
I would want to live it, tho
No bathroom or shower. But the space is wonderful for relaxing and getting away from it all :) a great way to recharge the soul.
One can work around the bath and shower easily. I love getting away from it all. My only problem is going back to it. I always used to get so mad because of having to go back. My ex would get mad at me for getting mad. LOL Hence he's an ex!
Juanita Sullivan So very true on many levels! You seem quite wise.
Mad is no way to go thru life.
My life now is centered on peacefulness and collecting experiences. It's been nice. :)
Mine too finally!
Juanita Sullivan yes! \o/
It's utterly gorgeous!
Awe, thanks. A Total labor of love for me. 🙂
Awesome! I love this! Thanks gor sharing !!
You're quite welcome. I'm happy you like it. It's a ton of fun to work on and camp in. :)
Beautiful. You did an awesome job.
Love this. I'm looking for a 70's Shasta like my parents has when I was a kid to "restore". It was small, but it could sleep 5 comfortably. The old ones in California are crazy expensive...even the falling apart ones.
Thanks It's been a labor of love!
I actually restore them for customers now in Colorado.
Out of the non-airstream campers Shasta's are king. Even trashed ones can get high dollar. They're just so sought after and so well made.
Some advice, is to visually look for them and then be bold enough to politely go knock on someone's door. And also look on craigslist or other places where people don't realize what vintage campers are. The words "old hunting camper" are great to see on an internet ad. That's where you might find one!
Good luck and keep at it It's a hobby that keeps on giving!
The work you did was/is absolutely amazing. Great job! Glad the divorce war didn't make this a casualty. Bravo.
Thanks!!
It's been great therapy to be constantly working on it, researching and learning different things. A new more durable paint job is next up!
Post your next project. I love the vintage trailers.
Perfection! This is a perfect little slice of heaven-on-wheels in this crazy world!!
The turquoise sink is the icing on the cake. Well of course, the whole gorgeous little thing is the icing on the cake. (Yikes - just noticed I'm turning green - or maybe it's turquoise!) 🤩👍🌟
Thank you! It truly is a little slice of heaven in this crazy world.
Currently, I'm outfitting her now to go out and have a good time for my heart and soul during this crazy world!
I'm so glad you feel the same way 💛🙂
@@DonAshcraft That is wonderful to hear - I hope you have a heart-warming, soul-soothing, beautiful, big fun time!
Neat, I have one almost exactly like it. Makes me want to finish fixing mine up even more.
Cool! I'd love to see some pictures.
I finally got it out of storage and have some pictures. Mine is still very "original", the heater was rusted, burned out and the fridge and water systems don't work. I put in a temp water system and just use the fridge as a pantry storage area. Every year I get it out of storage I try to do some improvements. staateoftheart@hotmail.com
We have a small trailer that we are restoring and this was very useful!! You did a beautiful job.
Thanks, and you're quite welcome. If you have any questions I am happy to help. 🙂
love the wood work in these old campers
joseph burgess Totally! Reminds me of great sailboats.
My daughter bought a 1962 trailer that looks just about like it. Good to know 60 watts of solar will be enough to run everything. I want one just like it 😍🚐
Cool! I hope she enjoys it as much as myself. 🙂
60 watts is very small. The only reason 60 watts is enough for me, is because I hyper tuned everything electronic inside my camper to to use very little electricity. Lights, stereo, and charging of devices are the main draws. The only way to size the system to your needs is to make it as efficient as possible and then do the math. 😉🙂
I grew up three blocks from the Red Dale company in Longmont, CO. Lot's of memories seeing them loaded out on semi trucks and car hauler trailers. They made cool truck campers too. I think they closed in the early eighties.
Awesome! So cool to hear this!
I am just north of Longmont in Berthoud! 🙂
What a gem. It's as cute as can be:)
thanks!
Nice work! I love it
