Hello Sir, great videos. I got a question. If I post some comments in a youtube video using my official account and someone uses API to post it on a different website without any embedding or identification from where this comment made by me was taken from. Is that not illegal sir?
You will need to consult a lawyer, but to me it's at the very least unethical and probably a violation of your privacy and copyright. You can try reporting the content, or even report the entire website if it's at fault to try and get it blacklisted.
When a service ask you to enter your information then they sell them… more if you need to promote your informations they ask you to pay for your information…
I'm working on scraping Instagram Data-> using selenium and Python, Trying to fetch all post data(engagement metrics and URLs) present on a public profile. Fetching data at this rate using a python script is violating the Instagram Terms of service?
Hi Steve! Great videos. Just started following you. I am new to these web scraping thing so I´d like to ask you a quick question. Is it possible to scrape data from Real Estate sites like Zillow and upload those same listings with the data you scrape into your website? Another example would be scraping cars for sale listings and then, somehow, automatically upload listings for with the data you scraped into your site.
Hi Annpdr! While scraping (or manually copying the data with a pen and paper) is most likely safe and doable with software, what's risky here is re-publishing that data without consent... as you could then be guilty of copyright violation from Zillow. You will most likely want to consult an actual lawyer (not me!) before re-publishing any scraped data :)
Hi Steve! Is there an issue with me scraping data from website X and then telling users on my site the source of that data? I'd like to be able to tell my users where I have scraped my data from- it would greatly help to explain the product/service- but I am not sure if I would be allowed to do so. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Hi Zee! If the website has an official API like Twitter and explicitly allows you to re-publish the data with guidelines, then it probably isn't very risky. However, I cannot give legal advice so I would suggest finding a competent legal professional to advise you.
great, just what I have been looking for! yet I want to ask specifically about Instagram to be sure. so scraping Instagram emails and usernames is supposed to be legal right? some users share this data within their profile. would like to hear your insight about it. also you said once every few seconds, how many seconds are a few in your opinion? what would be the number of seconds you would consider completely safe? oh and what protection measures should one use in order to go with this safely? is VPN enough? anything else?
Hi Chen, you'll need to consult with competent legal counsel for your specific situation. The most "legal" way to get them is to use Instagram manually (so you can't be accused of trespassing on their servers or automated access which violates their terms of service) and then export your network activity and scrape the data from there. @@StevesieData hey thanx for the reply. I discovered that what i wanted to do (email marketing) is illegal in my country anyway.. so unfortunately I'm giving up on this great opportunity.
We're working to change that. Every technology can be used for good or bad - and certain social media companies (trying to monopolize their user data) have portrayed ALL scraping as categorically "bad" so they can get away with hoarding their user data... but more and more "good" companies like Twitter, RUclips, Twitch, etc... are embracing fair use of their data for beneficial use as you said :)
Thank you for this ! I'm currently working on a project which will probably require a lot of data scraping so, your content help me a lot !! 😊
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the in-depth video. Have a much better understanding of what the repercussions could be.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Steve! It is a great video. I just want to know one thing. Now I'm using a hidden API from a Football Live Score. So, is it legal?. Thanks.
Hi steve! Is data scraping from google maps illegal. Knowing that this data is available publicly in their site
How does data scraping from PubMed work?
Apologies for the curt question - I have just started delving into your channel - Great content!

Hi Raghav -- you'll need to consult your own legal counsel for your situation and review the current Instagram Terms of Service to be sure.

I don't understand why there's still stigma on data scraping if it's for the benefit of people...
