- Fishgarths Wood is a bluebell haven in the months of April/May and it is located just a few miles out of Ambleside. One can access numerous hikes from. here onto Loughrigg Fell and down to Rydal and Ambleside.
On this hike I took in the bluebells wood and then over to Todd Crag and Loughrigg Tarn, a lovely place to sit and take in the breathtaking view of The Langdale Pikes.
The route is approx 4 miles and easy so a good hike for a family day out with the kids. This route offers fantastic views over Windermere and The Coniston Fells and Langdale Pikes and The Fairfield Horseshoe.
There is free parking in a small layby at the entrance to Fishgarths Wood for approx 3 cars NY36047 03465 but also other alternatives along the roadside in a couple of laybys heading out of Ambleside towards Clappersgate and Skelwith bridge just before the wood.

Lovely part of the Lakes and beautifully shot. Stunning views. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks Graham 😊
This is great. I like this area as I worked at Langdale YHA in 1995. My favourite time of year.
Thanks ....its just lovely this time of year isn't it
Beautiful video and very special music, very good shots, good video friend.
Thank you so much 💓
Hi Tracey, Anita and Billybob, beautiful area, beautifully filmed as always. Brought back wonderful memories for me of my week in Ambleside a year ago to your film date. Cheers Glyn.
Thanks Glyn 😊
Great vid Tracy some lovely views, ATVB 👍
Thank you 😊
Very nice , I live near Colchester and absolutely love the Lake District. Great video.
Thanks, I'm an Essex girl , lived at Rayleigh , been to Coltchester a number of times, never been back to Essex since I moved to the lakes, I wonder why 😄
Hi Tracey. A lovely walk with some fantastic views. It really does look like summer has finally kicked in! 🤞
Have a lovely weekend, all the best
Dave
Thanks Dave , we have just had a scorching 3 days in Scotland, just love it 😀
Nice one Tracey! A beautiful, tranquil and scenic trek. You're so knowledgeable about all the different peaks. You must sleep with an ordnance survey map. And you know the area like the back of your hand. I haven't been to The Lakes for about 6 years. You make me want to be back there NOW.
Thanks Trevor , get yourself here mate 👍 I used to love perusing the maps to plot my next adventure but it's getting increasingly difficult to plod on new ground around here now , thanks and atb
@@Traceyattrill-Essexgirlinwild How does the Essex bit fit in? I'm a Brummie living in Kent. Northfleet to be precise.
@@trevornisbett5519 I moved to the lakes about 20yrs ago , never been back to Essex , a few locals thought I was an Aussie 😆
@@Traceyattrill-Essexgirlinwild I envy you for being able to live in my favourite place in the UK. I love it there. I hope to visit again in the next couple years. But I'm not getting any younger.
@@trevornisbett5519 well I hope 1 day you do manage to visit your favourite place once again, life is too short mate.
Beautiful video Tracey and stunning scenery. When I watched one of your earlier videos where you walked up to Lily Tarn and did the surrounding tops I decided I need to visit that area. My kind of walk tbh. I would imagine its quite a quite a steep pull up to Lily Tarn but perfect with a picnic and a brew or beer 🙂 Nice to see you out with your sister again. All the best
Thanks Tony if you go up to Lily Tarn it is a very short steep section but do a detour to the viewpoint of Windermere first ... I would definitely do this walk before the bracken gets High if going over to the other tops as it would be thick bracken , lovely and quiet though, atb Tony
Another carpet of bluebells just like the Rannerdale Knotts area 😊❤ beautiful flowers Tracey 💐 😍 the wood is always a,nice place to walk through * especially so in springtime! Lougrigg Fell also a really nice walk & you get some terrific views... seemed strange without Billy & Teddy Bear 🐶🐕 & also Mister Andy, but I'm assuming it was quieter for you both 😉 regards to Andy & your family Tracey 🎉
Thank you David. We were minus the dogs as we went in 1 car due to limited parking, 2 dogs in the boot would have been carnage haha 😄
@@Traceyattrill-Essexgirlinwild That's a perfectly logical explanation Tracey, 1 car wuth 2 large dogs doesn't bode well for smooth transportation for everyone 🐕🐶😅💯
Wonderful views. Good to see you out with your sister again. Seems a very relaxed walk. Bluebells look lovely.
Where are the dogs, is it because of the lambs?
Thanks for sharing.
Take care and stay safe.
Hope your ankle is better.
ATB x
Hiya Yvonne , we didn't take the dogs as we met up half way to continue the drive in 1 car , so not possible to have 2 big dogs in my sisters car , thanks for watching, yes my ankle is alot better now 😀
Hi Tracey,
Well you said you’d do a walk through Fisgarths wood, and now you have. I’ve travelled along the A593 many times and wondered why people park along the edge of the road there. In the past there was quite a section of verge that you could park along, last year someone had placed a line of rocks to prevent this. Looked like you just caught the bluebells before they went over, and with sis it was of course double trouble, I did notice she had bells on her rucksack presumably to make it more difficult to lose her. No school kids this time so no Oreos for Billy, quite a few people around Loughrigg tarn, we used to park up at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel, have a meal then walk up to the tarn, even occasionally as far as the fell. Ideal for killing a couple of hours before being allowed into our accommodation.
Cheers
Graham
Haha....I'll tell Anita that about her bell...it gets stuffed into her rucksack by me after 5 mins as it drives me mad haha ...she got this when she went to Canada to deter the bears 🐻 and she wears it ever since , I've told her the only thing here she will scare ard hedgehogs ....thanks Graham and atb
@@Traceyattrill-EssexgirlinwildAh, that explains it, but are you completely sure she is not secretly transforming into an alpaca🦙
