    when diru just began they had a lot of ' inspirations', which isn't exactly weird for a beginning band. and now they are subject to being ' inspirations' XD

      A9HirotoPon I think both bands are very famous, but the difference being that the gazette caters to a larger audience than dir en grey. I think diru may be difficult to get into for a lot of people, especially with the very defensive [read: terrifying] fanbase.

      ダイノサー京 I know this comment is old but yes ;w; I want to get into dir en grey but the fanbase is a bit defensive.. mainly when they're in the gazette comment sections.

      stacked rubbish
      Exactly. Diru always make drama on every gazette song. If u hate a band don't listen to their songs. This is why I don't like DEG so much their fans are the worst sure not all of them. Some of them actually. Like 60% of them are over praising their band. They want to force their opinion on you.

  • @plantadelbosque
    @plantadelbosque 6 лет назад +21

    I see like 90% of them like inspirations tbh x) and honestly? when a band is just starting, for me is just natural to sound just a as mix of their influences because they're still exploring sound, finding themselves, so to speak, so i find it actually quite endearing... it's when you have years of experience and sound the same as somebody else when it's troublesome

  • @saltyparabolas9561

    As a fan of Diru, yeah they ripped off so many styles when they were young. Like they were basically a clone of Kuroyume (which I don't mind, they did it well) for the entire Indies era and into "GAUZE". I didn't catch all the stuff they "borrowed" from LUNA SEA that you did so great job! One thing I thought sounded REALLY similar was LUNA SEA's "MOON" opening riff and Die's solo part in "GARDEN" (the staccato picking part where Toshiya and Kaoru join in).
    Another good one is Ken's "Deeper" has an opening riff that is identical to BUCK-TICK's "Jupiter".

  • @HangryKitsune
    @HangryKitsune 4 года назад +6

    And that's why I left the vk scene, because at one point every band sounded and even looked the same and the whole originality got lost. Newer bands just started copying the older famous bands.
    Regarding Dir en Grey, if I remember correctly, they were fans of Luna Sea. But at least they still had their original style, despite the inspiration. Sometimes musicians do this willingly tho, as a homage to the other band. Maybe in some cases it was like this.

    00:01 - 00:12 of both songs:

    Really interesting! I think this must be 100% coincidence ... I would be most surprise if Mana Sama & Heejun oppa had ever heard of each other. LOL
    They are different in all the ways, though their birthday are close to each other.

    The chorus of 'Vampire's Love' by VAMPS sounds similar to the Chorus of 'DESTINY- The Lovers' by Versailles to me ;u; //I really like this video! you presented it in a really mature and respectful way and I think this is why people aren't encouraged to say pointless hate at each other hehe >u< / Really interesting to think about, I never want to pick out similarities like this as it may just be coincidence, and even if people copy eachother, it's a common occurrence in modern music and it isn't exactly easy to say for sure whether something is plagiarised or not..

    La’cryma Christi - Your song

    Generally, I think it's coincidence. It can also be inspiration.. hearing something and thinking "that's cool, but if I were to change this and this then I could do such and such". It's not impossible for two guitarists to come up with the same riff, or drummers to come up with the same fills.. it's how the entire song comes together that makes them unique.

    I think it's because they all... Play similar. I don't want to say that they all do the same thing, naah, but there are some.. canons? that they use them very often.If I know better on music i would named them... There is lots of songs where these canons were used, yet they all are awesome! it's something characteristic to this gendre I think.

    Given that one only has so many chords to choose from and only so many chord progressions... at some point you're going to come across melodies, intros and riffs which sound very similar and are completely coincidental, or, at least, partially coincidental as they may have been 'inspired' by other songs/artists. That said, some of the songs you listed are blatant copy and paste (with MAYBE a minor change in key... )... However, the only one I don't completely agree with and say it's PROBABLY just a coincidence is #8 the chords/progression/melody of Lycoan vs Sads since both the songs are written with a standard Reggae chord progression format, so there is bound to be some similarity to them...

    I've been listening to both "ever" and "Itsuwari no Kamen" a lot lately and it never crossed my mind that they are similar. 0.o The more you know... Anyway, the first time I've seen plagiarism in J-rock was when I listened to Fest Vainqueur's "Valencia to Virginia". They might not be too similar overall, but I swear the chorus is lifted directly from DIAURA's "Menace".

      the best plagiarism I ever heard was shortly after DIV (who disbandet some weeks ago) was new and brought out the song "Seasons" in 2012. Only one year before this their vocal Chisa was in a band called "NEXX" and made the same song but the version of DIV isn't that much rocky as the original version and people totally comented under the video, if Chisa has the rights to copy a song of his old band or if thst is illegal xD

    Japanese had a lot of metal rock bands, all the rock band is very good. Right now more popular band is Wagakki & One Ok Rock & Man With A Mission, their music was into US marketing or collab with American artists. Ready Babymetal was very popular band too, but to bad the band was disbanded no longer to perform. Everybody can be rock star, but to do the rock music industry in Japan is very difficult to get famous. They need to sale a lot of their music record or albums, they need huge fans base to supporting the groups.

    A good comparison would be the riff structure between "Hyena" by The GazettE and "G" by LUNA SEA. And no, the live version is better than the studio version of "G." What sucks is RUclips"s audio compression abilities which is almost always why we can never get a decent audio rip.

    I watched all three videos and was honestly surprised to not see Matenrou Opera on here because a good number of their songs are inspired from those of other bands (or plagiarized, which I can’t confirm or deny that since I don’t know the band members personally). Songs like Faust with the intro being pretty much identical to the intro of Symphony X’s Set the World on Fire, and they’re two years apart in release, as well. Another one would be Burning Soul’s chorus being similar to The Mourning After (Carry On)by Kamelot. I believe the songs are about 12 years apart...? I know that MO’s band members like both Kamelot and Symphony X, so the inspiration is most likely deliberate. I also like both bands (and I saw and met Kamelot earlier this year, too!), so I can’t blame them for wanting to mimic them a bit. lol

    • @VICE-H3RO

      I feel Matenrou Opera songs often have sections that resemble other band's songs. Little disappointed when I hear the similarities tbh :(
      Innovational Symphonia = Miss Mystery by Breakerz, Gloria = Emerald Sword by Rhapsody, Curse of Blood = Raining Blood by Slayer, Helios = See who I am by Within Temptation
      Sometimes it is just the chorus or some riffs that sound similiar.

      @@VICE-H3RO I never would've guessed that Helios and See Who I Am had similarities, but now I'm hearing it since you brought it up. The intro to See Who I Am resembles that of the middle of Helios. Interesting.

    apparently theyre law in Japan "any band can "cover" " music and legally do it? just by changing lyrics? .. (dont sure if its true, band a very lot of japanese band do it) and yeahw most of japanese band use other riff, or intro etc from another band..

    • @Moribax85
      @Moribax85 7 лет назад +2

      not really, japanese copyright law is basically the same as everywhere else, but there's another thing to consider in this case: record companies. unlike in the west, where there are a lot of small independent record companies, in japan there are a couple of majors with dozens of sub-companies, and the songs, expecially for the first albums, when the group isn't big yet, are property of the company, that can lend them to new prospects... this obviously doesn't happen with affirmed artists since they're way to big for companies to exert that kind of control, they make too much money for them, losing them to another company would be a significant hit

    Thereś not much what you can play around when You are doing music .. the same what it is with fashion and food.. cause the material to work with is limited in a sense. When You are even little bit studied music (music notation, structure of the musical piece and all what is related to it, minors majors etc.. ) you know that the room to play around is not much. So plagiarism as per se is a bit gray area .. So i hope people really learn ins and outs before they can say 100% that the work is plagiarised. Also these days here is places where musicians can buy bits and pieces of melody to build upon their own work into it, what common folk do not know exists . So for example i hear some piece of melody what will get stuck in my head , or i get some melody sting in my head forming without being heard it before and i build my composition upon/around it... And then it comes out that someone has done something similar? So am i then plagiarising it? Therefore as much as lawyers etc want to get their hands into all this..unless all musical elements are copyrighted or patented..there is no right or wrong and to allow such to happen... Then only one thing is left to say..human kind is rotten to the core, if this happens! I think there is some kind of measure in the place ( percentage ) to evaluate the work if it is or if it is not..
