You really know how to get our emotions going this is a fine piece of filming. Nice to know we have people like you making us happy. With your brilliant film making. 🚧
wow dont fancy standing on the footplate of a cold steam engine in the winter all the way from Derbyshire to Carnforth !. Superb video and love the cold start on the tractor nice one .
Hopefully someone will get her out and sort her out otherwise waste of a machine was never a big fan of steam but am starting to really like them now great video thanks Paul
Thank you very much Paul, glad you enjoyed it! :) It certainly will be nice when she returns to her full glory. She's a brilliant loco, one of my favs that's for sure :) Cameron
Very sad to see Lizzie in this condition, and the same for the Duchess and The Duke. Too many great express locos out of circulation just now, and you add the 2 Kings to that list! Well at least Club is due back very soon. There's HOPE yet!! Cheers. Ken
Princess Royal Class locos......my uncle Percy, a top link driver on LMS (and a Wessy - formerly of the LNWR) did not like them. They were not free steaming, and, according to Percy, were a pain in the ass to fire and keep a good head of steam. He much preferred the Princess Coronation, Royal Scot, and Patriot Classes. My grandfather (a 45 year veteran driver on the GCR/LNER/BR) once asked Percy when he visited what he thought of them. Percy replied that he would rather drive a Black Five than one of those damn things! He reckoned that Stanier had developed the Princess Coronation Class to deal with all the shortcomings of the Princess Royal Class.
The Princess Royals were Stanier's first 'big engine'. As originally built they had GW-syle low superheat. I believe that they were so poor that Stanier's career with the LMS was 'on the line' as a result. How he went from this to being the favourite of the engineering establishment was a miracle!
Nice work mate! Presumably they're going to get the Carnforth men to repair her? Gonna have to pop down see if I can see her in the yard tomorrow. Have to say, steam locos just look wrong without complete side rods!
Thanks Olan :) Yeah Steam Loco’s definitely don’t look right without hopefully the Carnforth lot will fix her soon and will have her back on the Mainline :) I hope you get to see her in the yard :)
At the moment I'm trying to figure out how the drivers got out of sync with one another. If the rods were simply taken off, the drivers should still be lined up as they had been with the rods on, but these are completely out of line to the point where the middle and rear are almost 180 degrees apart.
Pretty sure you guys know what you’re doing (removing the connecting rods prior to departure etc etc), but why two engines, two huge mainline diesels, to pull & push a measly (cold) steam engine, w/o water or coal, and one extra wagon? Those diesels once pulled "real" trains, 8-10-12 coaches, w/o having any trouble? Just curious! :)
I think there was two diesels there for shunting reasons but I’m not 100% sure on that. The actual diesel class of locos that feature on this video ‘Class 37s’ are actually very powerful. There was actually only one Class 37 pulling Princess Elizabeth, the coach and other 37 when they were underway after shunting

No problem :)
Wow, nice yo see her on the move, seen her in the west shed my brother was a patent to this east Midlands butterly
I used to go to STEAMTOWN every weekend when I lived nearby in the 1960s...wish I had a video then
I bet it was amazing in the 60s :)
That is one beautiful engine, here's hoping the repairs are successful.
Yeah she is a beautiful Loco :)
Excellent footage of 'Lizzie' on the move to Carnforth.
Cheers - Allan.
Thanks Allan glad you enjoyed it :)

Didn’t realize Growlers made so much clag. Reminds me of the ALCO diesels you find here in the States.
Yeah, 37s certainly do make a lot of noise :) They're fantastic Locos :)
They're okay when they warm up, and they do sound impressive when working hard.
Excellent little film.
Thanks John :)

Yeah there are a lot out of the circulation at the moment sadly :( but hopefully a lot of them will be back soon! :)

Heading down tomorrow to see Galatea so hopefully she'll be somewhere I can see her and they won't be using the diesels as a privacy wall haha
Olan Kenny I think princess elizabeth is going to stay at carnforth

I'm wondering why they even removed those rods unless they had a problem. Usually you just drop the Piston rod and leave everything else alone.
Excellent video of Princess Elizabeth's move from Butterley. Great viewing.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it :)
bobnweaver is princess elizabeth staying at carnforth thanks
Thanks for your question James but I have not heard anything official about the loco staying there. Regards, Jeff.
I went to the west shed in June she is a stunning loco

It's probably logistics, moving a loco to a different location without having to schedule a further path just for one loco.
Cracking film👍👍👍
Thanks :)
The 37's owe the railway nothing in money. They have certainly earned their keep.
Yeah you’re definitely right they’re fantastic Loco’s :)
Definitely 37s all the way fantastic machines built to last
Is she staying at carnforth when she is repaired thanks
Yeah she’ll be staying at Carnforth after her repairs
N21744 ok thanks I don't know what the arrangement was between the trust who owns her and west coast thanks for letting me know
Those diesel enginesmust be pretty gutless if it takes two of them to move one dead engine and a coach.

Fix the boiler ,make it rite
Send money !
Almost as much exhaust coming out of the diesel as out pf a steam engine!
Yeah diesels seem to do that quite a lot when there having a cold start lol
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO
