Rashford wasn't offside because none of the defenders are close enough to put in a challenge, therefore it is impossible for him to be obstructing or impeding them.
He was affecting the keeper movements, he was making a clear attempt at the ball. The linesman called offside. Only reason why it was allowed was the referee overruling the AR’s decision
They keep changing the rule, each time making it more confusing instead of less. A couple weeks back, Nketiah had a goal chalked off as offside. He was onside when the ball was played, so I couldn't understand it. It just barely grazed Saka's ankle on the way through. I figured VAR would overturn it since Saka didn't "play" the ball, and Eddie was onside when the pass was played. Nope. The rule now states that offside is determined if a player makes ANY contact with the ball, which is stupid AF (this goal being a perfect example). When the ball was played, Eddie was onside. Any contact by Saka was irrelevant. Logic says the goal was good. Rules say it wasn't. If the rule doesn't agree with logic, then the rule is stupid!
Regarding Rashford, it used to be, "if a player moves to the ball", which he did. Then it was "influences play", which he also did. Currently, I believe the rule is "the player is offside if they obstructed another player from playing the ball, unless it's an even day of the month, in which case it is only offside if the referee was born in a month that ends in 'y'".
