Is the point of the show not to show our eccentricity compared to the rest of world. With a cracking backdrop and mystery to solve. Don’t see how a local DI could create the humour.
I agreed
Racist Sexist BBC. Diversity means, not white. They tried to replace the lead with a black woman last time. Now, not only have they replaced him with a black woman, she is not an eccentric Englishwoman. Of course you could not make fun of a black woman. Dwyane is far too old to be a policeman now. Clearly he is there to be the comic relief. Three strong independent competent black women and a black male fool, they rest can all tolerate in a good natured way. I am not even going to watch the final episode of the season. I am done.

Sarah Lancashire, deserves some fun in the sun after Happy Valley dark drama.
Davey Higgins from the coroner would be a absolutely brilliant actor for the replacement just the best .
The Inspector has to be a Straight White Eccentric Englishman on secondment working with the local Straight Black Woman Det Sgt or the show will not work. I am sad to see that they have made Dwayne a (63 year old who should have been retired) policeman, figure of fun.
Absolute fact!!! No BBC diversity box ticking here please. Don't try to fix what ain't broke. The formula works. Leave it alone.
The entire hook for this show is the lead character's being the fish-out-of-water. Having one of the locals take over would kill the show and turn it into something different. Let's not mess with success, please.
This is a cozy. A murder mystery. If I want romance, I'll watch something else. The only love affair I want to see in this show is the one that develops between the lead character and the island.
Oh -- and bring back Danny John Jules!!! 😍
Is there a new season of death in paradise? Getting tired of seeing the same repeats of season 11- episode 1and 2. If you show repeats how about starting from Seasons one to seasons 12.?

I am white, but I have nothing against any colour, my late Wife was Indian and I have gone out with Women from all creeds and colours, but I do feel there is a limit to all this.

Death in Paradise, if they are going to change from white to black, why hire a Detective from another Country?
Why not just appoint one from "Saint Marie", it would make more sense.
Oh! Hang on, they have done that and it makes no sense at all...the whole point of the humour is, he/she is a foreigner, hates the weather, etc. etc. that will now be lost.
Or why not go the whole hog?
Black, a Woman and Gay...that would cover all the ridiculous "lets be seen to be PC, after all, we would not want to upset the PC Brigade now, would we", garbage.
