I Decided to INVADE Norway | Climbing Galdhøpiggen, HIGHEST Mountain in Norway

  • It's a well-known fact that if you plant a flag at the highest point of a country, you have conquered that country. Right? So I decided that it's time for Sweden to conquer Norway. In this video I'm trying to climb the highest mountain in Norway so I can claim it on behalf of the king of Sweden.

    This video is a joint Swedish and Lithuanian expedition where we embark on a road trip from Stockholm to the Spiterstulen tourist camp in Norway, and from the we begin our ascent of Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway. Galdhøpiggen is 2469 m tall (8100 feet), and northern Europe's highest mountain. But it's possible to climb for a normal person - all you need is hiking and a bit of scrambling to get up there. That doesn't mean that it's easy though - this was a full day of misery and pain.
    Along the way I give you some history about Norway, show our campsites, tell you about the tradition of Norway jokes, and I feel bad about not feeding ducks. But most importantly, I show you the magnificent views on the way to Spiterstulen which lies in the mountainous Jotunheimen region in Norway...and the even more magnificent views on the way up the mountain.
    So, how will this expedition go? Will we reach the top? Will we plant a Swedish flag on top of the mountain? Will Norway become Swedish...or have I misunderstood something about how all of this works? You'll have to watch the video to find out.

    Wow what an adventure, the climb in spots looked quite steep and slippery with the snow. I would call the 6 1/2 hour climb a conserving energy one, you enjoyed the sights unlike the rest of them 😂. I’m glad you reclaimed Swedens rightful ownership of the mountain and no one can take that away from you. I love camping, as primitive as it may be so I’d give you a 2 star vagabond not a zero. Stay safe till next time

      It actually was really steep, and very hard to go uphill in the snow. Well, on the rocks as well for that matter :D I really needed to conserve my energy 'cause I was just going on fumes on the way back. Completely exhausted! The camping was extremely nice, and I'm so happy we beat that darn mountain :D Cheers!

      @ThreeStarVagabond  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@tumarfa Haha, that's what I meant. First I need to get to Gotland with the ferry. And then, if I were to go in a straight line between the northern point to the southern, it'd cross a large bay - since Fårö and lots of stuff is sticking out to the north east.

    • @tumarfa
      @tumarfa 11 месяцев назад

      @@ThreeStarVagabondThat would be an overly ambitious line to travel by. You could just do east-west, shortest length like others have done in other countries. You could even have a porter to carry your stuff, but I'm not sure if that would be considered cheating. But at least in Sweden you shouldn't be chased by angry farmers when crossing their land, as happens in Wales and Scotland, so the lowered stress level could make it a more leisurely stroll.

    That must have been an enjoyable trip, and good to be able to share the driving. I guess people like making fun of their neighbours, Brits used to make similar jokes about the Irish until it became politically incorrect, the Dutch and French joke about the dumb Belgians (poor Belgians who get it from both sides), Germans about Poles. Let's see, who have I missed, do those potato-eating Danes get let off the hook? I digress.... lol. You're lucky Norges Rikspoliti weren't waiting for you on the summit of Galdhøpiggen, I guess they're all laughing into their crates of cheap Systembolaget alcohol and duty-free godis.

      Weell, it was mostly enjoyable but my legs were absolutely killing me on the way down :D I really hated that part! But yeah I think it makes sense for everyone to joke about their neighbours. It's all in good fun after all - at least these days. But speaking of the Danish, did you know that Sweden and Denmark have the record of number of wars with each other? So there might be a bit more bite in the jokes between those two countries :D
