      That's not saying much. A person who has no nutritional education will just 'listen to their bodies' and eat a big mac every time they feel hungry. That's obviously a gross exaggeration but it's still very applicable. If an individual doesn't know how to cook healthy, they will keep eating the wrong food, follow an incorrect regiment of fasting and deluding themselves into thinking they're doing it right and the suffering is part of the game. There is A LOT of anecdotal garbage out there.

    I live in a poor neighborhood where the best of foods and information is not there, but I noticed the people who live through their ailments and diseases are those who are in the fresh air walking most of the day! Something about the fresh air the sunlight and walking that seems to keep you alive! They don’t have a plate of organic vegetables or meat all they have is the ability to get out and walk and they live to tell about it! My brother was told he had a tumor on his lung 5 years ago and he’s still walking! And he’s probably still alive because he never let the drs start experimenting on him!

  • @umeshchhikara
    @umeshchhikara 2 года назад +16

    Nice episode Tom....here are my thoughts:
    Fasting - I agree with Dave that fasting doesn't need to be rigorous. I have written about it several times and I follow it. A lot of times I would do 16 hours overnight and then go for my training. Other times I feel hungry and I would have pre-work out meal in the form of a fruit, potato, oats, etc. whatever I feel like or what is available in kitchen. I am always on a mixed diet. Some days are heavy on protein, some heavy on carbs, and some heavy on fat. I have never felt an iota of difference any day in my training.
    I also vouch for the fact that one should watch their pre & post meals with fasting. Just fasting alone does nothing. In India, we will see several examples of men and women (more) who regularly fast say twice a week, or say 9 days at a stretch; and ironically most die unhealthy or young. At least, the people I know off or see around.
    Sleep - Even though I do everything right naturally as experts explain and I would say that's way we have learnt to sleep in the family. Everybody does this in my family and surroundings. Early to bed, rise early, do regular exercises/walk first thing in the morning and then start their day. Always slept in dark etc. etc.
    However, to me sleep is more related to tiredness of body and mind rather than all the factors expert talk about. If you wake up at 5 am then you are bound to sleep at 9.30/10pm. This is how it works in 100% of people I know. And those who wake up late can never find their night sleep and since they can't sleep, they will find some sort of entertainment - be it phone or tv.
    Example - You wake up at 5am. Nobody listens to news at that hour because nothing changed from previous night. Right? You won't open your phone - even if you open to check it, you will close it. Nobody is there to communicate with you at that hour. You wouldn't like watching anything - not a movie or a show at that hour. So what are you left with? You would either go for a walk, or start your exercises and that's then becomes a ritual for you. And when that becomes a ritual, it is up to mind now totally to make you sleep early. First day, or rather first few days, you will feel tired because its been a long day already. You should find sleep easy. BUT...I wish if mind was this easy to handle! Your mind would stop you and reminds you - its only 9.30. How can you sleep that early? Your bedtime is 11pm. This is where 'no glasses', 'blue light', or any other science remedy would work because you are driven by your mind.
    Whereas, if you think of lives of all the successful, healthy, and wise people; you will find, they go to bed early barring an exception or two. And then may be you will be able to convince your mind that sleeping early is no sin. Mind has to be told that its been a long day and it needs to rest. How you convince it is on the individual because a few people would get convinced with a narrative whereas, others wont! Find a way.

      Those who do 30 day Ramadan fast eats before sunrise every day for 30 day..
      Basically both aren't doing fast.
      Only people who are fasting on navratra are the ones who do NIRJALA fasting. And you won't see them dying early. They live a very long life..

At 4 pm, i just drink some water filled with antioxidant things and, one hour before my meal, i just drink, slowly, a liter of greens/berries/roots juice, for the micros. I told my doctor that I wanted to do a 5 day water fast after I did one and he told me that that was, and I quote, 'A very silly thing to do and I would highly recomend against it'. he continued to make some really good points and then seamed a little miffed when I told him I had already done it. It sounds as though your dad not only had good genetics, but he also wasn’t exposed to as many poisons as we are exposed to, And was raised on food that was normal instead of what we have to eat. his water probably had no fluoride in it for most of his life. There is so much wrong with our environment today that we tend to hyper focus on nutrition. It’s important, but it’s not the only thing making us so sick that we die younger.

    I've done the Master Cleanse as a long term fast very successfully three times. Each time * went 21 days and each time I had loads of energy and no trouble staying with it once I'd made it past day 5. There 8s no danger of losing electrolytes with the Master Cleanse. It consists of organic lemon juice, organic raw maple syrup and cayenne pepper. I highly recommend drinking loads of water and taking in a small amount of Celtic raw salt each day, as well. Mild to moderate daily exercise and a full days work are effortless and pleasant, but don't try to run any races. If you have a massive Herxheimer response, do what I do: keep a small stash of Halloween sized mini chocolate bars handy. Eat one and it will immediately stop the reaction. Just one, lol. Fasting with green juice more than 48 hours is not recommended and fasting with fruit juice is extremely dangerous

    • @needless2say723
      @needless2say723 2 года назад

      This is my 3 cents. Many naturopathic Drs state that seed oils oxidize and the liver is burdened by this. Cells have a double lipid (fat) outer layer, Omega-6 oils are over consumed. People need more Omega-3s and omega-9s . Seed oils rich in omega 6 make inferior lipid cell walls. I eat pure coconut oil, olive oil and grass fed butter flax seed oil for omega 6 but need to be chewed or be cold pressed and protected from oxidation. Keep your oils in the fridge
      Check out Dr Eric Berg
      Dr Peter Osborne
      Dr Robert Lustig ( professor UC)
      I hope this helps.

    • @bitrudder3792
      @bitrudder3792 2 года назад +3

      From my studies, I'm guessing he would answer - Oils made from seeds, (beans, legumes, grains) are typically the worst in terms of high omega 6, already oxidized (manufacturers even add deodorants because these oils start to go bad immediately), so corn, soy, peanut, sunflower, safflower, ''Vegetable,'' oils are bad. Ditto oils like canola (rapeseed) that require strong chemicals to process, even though touted as being high in omega 3's. obviously, anything called “trans fat.“ As for the milks, oat milk and almond milk have carbs, Just like milk has carbs. It doesn’t take many carbs to throw off a fast. coconut oil or more refined MCT oil and butter are the classic oils to add to coffee. Saturated fats are more stable. Omega 3 fats that are still in the food they came from are more likely to be fresh, like fish oil still in the fish. Salmon, mackerel, sardines. Of course, all of these oils do you have a mix of the different types of oil, so we pay attention to the ratio of 3 to 6 to 9 etc.

    I haven't seen any studies that show that autophagy continues when consuming prebiotic fiber, so I would like to see a source for that because a google search doesn't return anything. Also, the OMAD style he is suggesting (one meal at night) has shown to increase cholesterol levels; so not probably advisable for most people. I think his idea eating crap food on IF is a total recipe for metabolic disaster. Short term IF like 18/6 has shown to have few to no benefits vs unrestricted eating, other than maybe the potential caloric restriction benefits. But if you're eating "as much as you want" as he is suggesting during that 6 hours, then you are likely to experience no benefits as according to current clinical data.

      Nikk, I don’t disagree with your points, but counting on Google to give you good information is a bad idea. Yikes. And cholesterol levels are not the devil. Trying to squash cholesterol levels is fighting the wrong battle. Cholesterol is how we make hormones and repair cell walls so we WANT it. Elevation in levels, logically, is your body simply preparing to repair things. Add to that the fact that the acceptable level of cholesterol was changed (lowered) to justify putting more people on statin drugs. SMH. Statin drugs do not prevent heart attacks or increase positive outcomes. In fact, Lower cholesterol levels are associated with higher all cause mortality.

    From min 27...
    Your guest is missing a few points.
    1st - There's no vegan diet, veganism is not a diet and goes much beyond plant based food.
    2nd - he says grains kill many small animals.... well animals eat plants and grains... so eating animals cause much more harm to all these animals than eat directly the plants and grains. If you take away the 77 billion land animals we kill every year, we just need to feed 7,7 billion humans and not both. Besides, animals like cows each much more food per day than humans.
    3rd - your guest doesn't take into account any ethical values, he has a farm and he kills and eat the animals, this would be fairly ok in a survival context, not in the abundance we live today.
    4th - protein exists at it's source in plants, so it is enough to eat diverse and different types of plants and grains to get different proteins and amounts without contributing to the biggest massacre of sentient innocent beings as well the environmental catastrophic contribution of the animal farming.
    Lastly, tell someone to go vegan, as well to go carnivore, show's how detached he is of what's behind of both realities. How ambiguous and contradictory is that?

    I love that, even if he mentions the vegan trap, he doesn't necessarily say that eating a lot of meat is the way to go (also the quality of the products matter) and that you should be 90% vegan (basically don't skip on the veggies) and the rest have some animal protein
    Makes sense. Nowadays people tend to go to the extremes of either being vegan (if it's for the animals i understand) or consuming a ton of animal products, probably more than is healthy or it's low quality processed meats.
    I personally am not vegan, but i don't consume cow milk anymore and i avoid as much as I can the rest of the dairy items because of a small intolerance and skin reaction to it. I'm not the biggest meat obsessed person and eggs i consume sometimes but i don't feel like i depend on them. Sometimes i consider going vegan but i mostly don't because of how difficult it becomes from a social stand point and the fact that i can barely find something to eat when i go out without it being stupidly expensive. But I'm also mostly interested if it's even healthy to be completely vegan.
    With that being said, it somehow makes a ton of sense to be 90% plant based while not completely eliminating animal products
    Who knows what i might try in the future. But from a religious aspect (I'm orthodox Christian) we do have times when we eat 100% plant based for around 2 months around two times a year. So i get my "detox" that way i guess

      it does seem as though different people respond differently to different diets. I’m fascinated by the people for whom the carnivore diet is the solution to all their health problems, that they don’t get bored by it, and that plant foods react so badly with them that they don’t care about not eating them anymore. Or the people who suffer the tortures of the Damned when they eat certain groups of vegetables with oxalates and or lectins in them. We don’t really know, do it, whether there’s something they are lacking that could be fixed so that eating these foods would become OK for them again. but there have been carnivores who have lived happily on that diet for well over 10 years now, and some have done it for longer. I think I only know of one that ate that way for practically his whole life but I forget his name. Then we have the fascinating world of food sensitivities that can be corrected with frequency treatment. Or Mitigated. I know different people, including a relative, that has had to give up the vegan diet to slowly try to repair health. And I wonder what would happen if they went in or carnivore. But they’re not going to try it because they still believe so much in the plant based thing. I’m more like… What actually works? What foods will actually heal the things causing pain and lack of full function In body and mind? Because there is a way to eat that is ethical no matter what you choose to eat.
      So I do appreciate Dave’s understanding of Permaculture and the damage done by certain kinds of agriculture and not just poor practices in raising livestock. I have studied that formally and informally, and Permaculture is amazing. It was a life-changing moment when I discovered that you could feed an entire family from a very small piece of land. we could have so much food security if we did the opposite of what United Nations agenda wants for the world. They want to stack and pack people into cities, and be in charge of raising food and distributing it (with coal powered and petroleum powered electric transport, apparently.) give everyone a universal basic income to buy from them. What happens in a disaster? What happens if there’s a transportation issue? A bunch of hungry and angry people going crazy on each other. Much better to have sort of an extended suburbia/small farm/larger farm scenario where everyone engages in raising food On their own plot, and community gardens, communal organic grazing areas, hardy and appropriate fruit trees planted everywhere, fresh herb planters leading up to everyone’s front door, relaxed homeowner association laws so people can have their own chickens or ducks for a regular source of protein from eggs, and lots of neighbors who understand How to care for livestock and gardens when you want to go travel and you can ask a neighbor to keep up with your garden while you’re gone and vice versa. If anyone’s Garden has a disaster, if there is a local disease outbreak that requires culling livestock, there are still other people producing plenty of food in a fairly nearby radius. People can have a wide variety of food options whether they want to be more plant-based or more animal-based.
