This episode covers how to get started in a Minecraft world. We punch our first tree, craft wooden and stone tools, gather food, and build a humble starter house to survive our first night!
We also craft a bed so we can skip the night, fight our first hostile mobs, quickly convert our wooden cabin into a more stylish house, then explore the starting area of our world.

I love how this is really geared toward a beginner, and your starter house actually looks like a real starter house.
I beat the ender dragon 9 times in my world and I still live in a hole in the ground 😭
For beginners but not condescending. I just started playing this year and these videos have been priceless.🎉

I've truly missed Survival Guide videos hitting my feed. You're going to bring me back into Minecraft again after 1.5 years away. This is going to be a good birthday weekend! 🎉☺️
Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉 hope you jump back into the game
happy birthday! i hope it’s a good one!
Happy bday man!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Very happy birthday to you man 🎉❤❤ . I hope you had a good birthday. Btw what is the date of your birthday ❤🎉.
"Oh no! He's just burnt to death right in front of me- not to worry!☺ "
Definitely going in the quote book for this season!
Yeah, Season 3!
Birch! Gem would be so proud.
This is great. The Survival Guide is what got me interested in Minecraft.
Gem is proud whilst camman is in pure disgust lmao

GET THIS MAN TO 1 MIL SUBS!
Pix, your season 1 Survival Guide is the reason I know all I know about MC and I am extra excited to see what the 3rd iteration has to offer!
Happy new survival guide!
I cant Ive been subbed for to long :(
He deserves that million like nobody else. Let's do it guys 💪
Just subbed 😎👍
True
just subbed
Thanks for starting a new season of Survival Guide and having a seed we can play along with! It's amazing. I've started my own world in it, which I've called Pixlandia in your honour. I found a large cave between spawn and the mountain and went in for a bit of iron, nearly died in the attempt when some skeletons ambushed me! I've been playing with full netherite armour so long I forgot how weak you are with no armour at all!
hi can you share the coordinates of the mountain I was not able to find it
@@renancorrea602 About -900X, -200Z
The mountain! The way the waterfall switches colors through the cherry grove looks so nice, great seed
The waterfalls are my favorite part of it! It's so gorgeous!
I've probably said this before on Season 2, but if any series on YT is worthy of being a successor to PaulSoaresJR's Survive and Thrive, it's this one. I look forward to seeing how this world progresses!
I agree wholeheartedly. I actually fell in love with Minecraft because of his Survive and Thrive series. Pix is definitely right up there with him, I just found him later.

Something about watching you start a brand new world and working through early game stuff is so calming. I love the Survival Guide!
I love this series so much! So cool that the outro is the new music disc again! And I love that you take the time to decorate the first night little starter house, it's something I feel like I rarely see in Minecraft series but it adds so much to the feeling of living in the world!
Maybe I'm a veteran, but I still love watching guides like this because it brings back the fun I had when I first started playing this game.
IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! i wasn’t able to keep up with the old series’ so i’m happy to be here for this one :)
SAME HERE!! Let's dig in this series together!!
Same!
Same. Let the adventure begin!!!
YAY
Hi there. 🙂 I'm kind of new to this Minecraft Game Thing and I appreciate this Tutorial Series 🙂. I think this will help me a LOT. Watched Episode 0 yesterday and decided to follow you with the Worldseed Thing. So, me now playing in this world too. Have to admit... I walked west from Spawn, because I want to live at this Mountain too 🙂. But I didn't have a Bed. So Night came and oh Boy... Nights are scary as f.... well... 6 death later and on a new Minecraft Day I found the Mountain 🙂. Pretty there on the Surface... but... I fell into a hole... didn't die by hitting the rock bottom, but... found explosive Creeper thing shortly after. 😀. Count that as dead again.
So, I walked around a litte bit (like you said in this Episode) to find a nice Building-Location. Ended up just a few blocks left from your Starter House. But... I have a (maybe stupid) Question... I hope this doesn't count as "Spoiler"... while searching for a Buildingplace I stumbled over a really small Structure, just 150-200 blocks left from the Starterhouse you build, near of this mini snowmountains... looks like a little tiny House made of white Blocks, maybe Snow. Are there hostile Creatures there? I don't want to find out, because I died too often at this point 🙂.
I don't will go near that thing until you showed it in the Guide-Episodes... I have no Idea what it is and I had the great Plan of "gnah... I let the Pixlriff Hero show me first, than I go and look by myself." 😀
Greetings and big love from Germany. Have a nice Day 🙂
If this is your first time really getting into minecraft, I would suggest leaving the little snow structure alone until pix gets to it in the guide. It’s a rare structure and there are potentially a few complex mechanics going on inside that you might not want to mess around with on your own. Best of luck with your new world though 😊
@@allenbuddy3101 I played Minecraft for about 2-3 Month back in the Days... I think it was 2012 or 2013.. must be Version 1.1 or 1.2. but I stoped playing and changed to Diablo 🙂. From Time to Time I watched some Let's Plays but this was in Version 1.7-1.9 and last time I watched was some Parts of the Empires SMP Series.
But "really and actively playing..", well, this is my first time now 🙂. And yeah... I will wait for Pixl for sure 🙂, already died toooo many times for my liking 🙂
Yes! Thank you for building a basic box safe house for the first night. It annoys me when you see people creating a really intricate first build and pass it off as the first night. Thank you for showing us your editing process to then improve it. Great series. Been finding it hard to get back into minecraft 1.20 so going to follow your series and world seed
As a fairly experienced player I enjoy your series very much, even though the first episodes are focused at beginners I find it relaxing to follow your journey from scratch. Keep up the great work!
Words to take note for early gamers starting off. almost everything WOOD related can be used as fuel in a furnance, including pesky old doors.
As a creative only player, i never understood whats the charm of survival but recently i decided to give it a shot using your guides, and i realised how much i was missing out
This takes me back to when my kids and I first started Minecraft forever ago. We didn’t know anything and spent the first night in the game running for our lives in a never ending death loop 😅 I am glad we found your guide series and learned the basics!
On my latest new start, I couldn't find any coal to make a torch before dark, and no sheep nearby... I made a little 2x2 hut to wait out the night... then a creeper spawned right next to me inside the hut, dead 3 minutes in. Never a dull moment.
Despite having played the game since the OG full release, I truly enjoy this series every time you make one!❤ I have a genetic illness…Ehlers Danlos Syndrome…which causes severe chronic pain, physical disability & multiple other chronic illnesses/conditions. Three such conditions are chronic severe insomnia, anxiety & chronic migraines…aka 15+ days per month w/migraine symptoms. Your voice is very soothing & I love your sense of humor. So watching & listening to your videos can help with my anxiety & insomnia even when I’m experiencing mild to moderate migraine symptoms. Also some of my migraine cause me to feel as if I’m simultaneously rapidly spinning & falling anytime I close my eyes longer than blinking & that’s often coupled with difficulty focusing my eyes on anything more than 3-4ft away. So I often watch your videos on my phone/tablet when that occurs so I can focus on something close up…without worrying there will be any yelling or added loud noises to hurt my typically then sensitive ears.
While yours is not the sole channel I’ve found for this purpose…yours was the first I found & remain one of my top favorites. For me your content provides more than just entertainment & knowledge about the game. So thank you.❤
- I truly love the location you chose for your base! I now want to find a seed with an area like my current base which sits in a tiny forest biome at the bottom of a basin completely surrounded by massive snowy, icy mountains. But I’d like to find the same but with a cherry biome right up to the snow line around the majority of the circle/oval of mountains & potentially even inside the basin as well. When I’m the YT video where you were searching for a seed you actually pointed out a spot exactly like I’m describing on the mapping website. I wrote down that seed & just have to see how large it is bc it didn’t look that large on the map. But🤷🏻♀️
Can’t wait to see what you build! Going to watch all of these in order.
I’ve been playing minecraft for years, but it’s always so lovely to come back to your tutorials to see what’s new, and to just watch the beginnings of a new world and see how it grows over the course of many months.
When you first proposed the idea of starting S3, I thought it would make more sense to stick to S2, but youʼve convinced me this is better. I canʼt wait!
Back again. I just keep replaying this series everytime i feel a hankering to pick up minecraft again. Still doesn't prevent me from playing until i get a bed and then quitting because i don't know what i should do next. Oh well, it's worked for the last 15 years, i'm sure it'll keep doing the trick.
I love how much detail you go into explaining things. I’m not a beginner but there are things you mention in your videos that I’m not even aware of. Plus it is nice to have a clear understanding of how and why things work the way they do ie technical deets in making your skeleton XP farm video.
despite having played minecraft for over a decade, there's something so refreshing about watching the early days of the survival guide.
I remember learning how to play Minecraft shortly after season 1 was released. Watched all of season 2 and I am thrilled for the adventures in season 3. This series is so wonderful, thank you for your effort and dedication!
hi pixelriffs! i know you’re not going to see this comment but my 50 year old dad is such a great fan of your videos and it always makes me smile when i find him watching one of these and progressing through a minecraft world. literally makes me wanna cry some times. thank you for doing what you do, please continue inspiring so many people :)
I remember, a time, a few years ago. It was the Season 1 of your Survival Guide, I don't really remember. I remember watching many videos of them. I particularly remember one, in which you explained why you should use hotkeys. It was the reason I got into PvP a lot. Nostalgia struck me as soon as I saw this video in my recommended. Thanks for everything, Pixlriffs.
I got back into minecraft today, and I remembered watching season one back when I very first started playing. I'm so excited to listen to this for my current playthrough
I really hope the trend of beginners trend continues throughout the series. I would love to see how you tackle beginners buildings not just that, things like terraforming rivers and mountains!
I've been playing Minecraft since 2011 but I still love every bit of this series. It's a big help to my little brother and cousins who are just learning to play so, thank you!
although i dont need this guide since I've been playing since 2011, These videos are still fun to watch. Pix is a good commentator
I'm really liking the new format. I enjoyed the old format, but the new one is a little more to the point for new players, but even the extended content is done as a newbie friendly format.
Can't say I learned anything new, but then this is far from my first rodeo at this point, but still enjoyed the whole video.
One point of interest for me was that you didn't mention making charcoal. I think I almost always start with a little.
This is the type of series ive missed, there will be a time when it gets complex and tricky, but not on the first episode. It feels comforting to have this series around again.
I'm excited for the rest of this series! Episode 0 was great and even though I didn't learn anything I didn't know already, it's always good to be reminded of these little things that can improve one's quality of life in their favourite games and help people get the most out of their experience! Your ep0 did just that!
I can't believe it's already season 3! It feels just like yesterday when you started on the museum in season 1
I love this series. I haven't played Minecraft since 2020 and that was some Multiplayer minigames... proper survival I haven't touched since 2015 and the 1.7 version, so I definitely needed a refresher. It's been 13 versions
I've been playing Minecraft since 2011 but I still enjoy watching these Day 1 survival videos for some reason
This is so nostalgic. Im remembering the 1st season where he did the same things 😢
Yes! First ep for this season! ❤
Huge 2012 vibes in this video. Not like is outdated, but i feel good for the little ones finding out about Minecraft for the first time in 2023 and having you to guide them.
I've been playing for years and never realized you could right click in the crafting UI to select different materials... This is why I watch tutorials! Thanks, Pixlriffs!
the starter house build really reminds me of ramsfell back in your first ever survival series! so happy the survival guide is back btw
Legitimately everyone is absolutely loving this! Cant wait to enjoy this journey with you, Pixlrifts!
Me: Thinking Minecraft is game made of squares.
8:30 Pix: “We are going to drag this cobblestone into a circle.”
I know that Pix played since forever, and therefore he does a mistake by not using the crafting book.... Since this is starter guide, you might wanna get used to the functionality of the crafting book, you do not need to learn recipes by heart anymore
Extremely excited for this season 😃
Pix! I love this. Most of the episode 1’s now days end with a mega mansion and the words “now that we have our elytra we can end the episode”. This is so refreshing.
Pixlriffs: "Wood is something you will pretty much always need in Minecraft, so you can never really have too much of it."
Ilmango: "Challenge accepted."
Also, "We're gonna drag this Cobblestone into a circle..."
Those are called squares, Pix >.>
More seriously though, there was talk about implementing in Java the ability to dye ALL wool blocks in 1.20.
If they did, you should point out in the survival guide that grabbing 3 flowers of the same color can help you in case you only find 3 sheep of different colors to make your bed. Old Bedrock trick since forever.
Not me still watching this with well over 10k hours in minecraft, and probably 100k in watching it on RUclips. Always a joy to watch pix
i've been playing minecraft for more than a decade and yet here i am watching the survival guide.
to be fair, there's always something new to learn about minecraft
I've known how to play Minecraft for many years before watching your videos back in 1.16. BUT I absolutely love watching you explain things about Minecraft that I have known for so long. You always do things efficiently yet easy to understand. It is SATISFYING.
So excited for this series! You're gonna kill it with this :)
I remember playing before beds were added, but I stopped playing for a long time, so I'm glad this is aimed at beginners bc I honestly have no idea what changes were made, so I can't assume anything is the same. Like, leaves dropping sticks is new to me y'all, lmfaoooo
Been playing Minecraft since 2011 and still don't get past this part, even tho I already know all of this, it's really nice to hear you, how you speak and explain everything. Nice job!
The Viking Shorthouse is the perfect slightly-upgraded-first-night house. Well done once again.
wow... i'm so glad to see this series back
it's been a while since i've played. and thanks for making me change that :)
I like how the guide is as basic as possible and doesn't make any assumptions about what a player already knows. Might I recommend using terms like "use the attack/destroy button" or "use the use/place button" instead of "left click" or "right click"? If we're going to assume viewers might not know how to punch a tree, we might as well assume they are playing any version and/or using accessibility tools.
Love your vids! I wouldn't mind seeing the museum continued as a series in 1.20. Maybe bring the museum world into the latest version and reset some distant chunks? I loved that build.
12:05 My jaw unironically dropped.
I've been playing for 13 years. since alpha.
I've got six 500+ hour worlds/servers.
This is super useful and I did not know about it.
I love the right click to choose exactly which item you want on the cycling patterns. I cannot count the number of times I've patiently waited for the correct thing to come up or misclicked and then had to escape and try again
I am so excited for Survival Guide 3! And I’m actually really glad with the new parity between Java and Bedrock allowing Bedrock players to play along in the same world. It’s certainly a beautiful seed on console as well, though it seems to be missing those beautiful waterfalls (which might just be bad luck, or broken water mechanics, who knows with bedrock, lol).
Do you know the coordinates for the base location I am having trouble on bedrock with finding it or being sure that I have found the right one?
@@rachelalmondstorm1625 hey, I did find the base location, but I haven’t logged on in a few days. I’m not sure if you caught the coordinates in the newest video but the mountains are at approx -907, y, -241. That should get you in the right direction :) and if you’re playing on bedrock as well, depending on which way you’re travelling to the mountains, you may pass a few useful treats along the way on the surface! I don’t think the structure spawning is the same between Java and Bedrock, so it will likely be something Bedrock has that the Java seed has somewhere else.
This may be an odd thing to call out, but I really appreciate you doing a "stick around" before a thoughtfully timed ad-break. So many videos just have ad-breaks that abruptly spring up in the middle of the video. Besides that, I love watching you go through early game stuff in your survival series. It makes me want to start a new world
He doesn't control where the ads go in the video though, it's automatically generated by RUclips
@@meowtain9566 Gotcha. So it's just that RUclips finally managed to put the ad-break in a good spot. TIL
Looks like Viking Hut, please decorate roof with moss once you find some!
Minecraft SURVIVAL GUIDE!!!!~
I still remember the days when I used to come back from work and lay down on the couch to play the survival guide on the tv to get rid of all my stress.... I'm sooo excited to relive those days again..... thanks pix!
I already know all of this... But will still watch as I just love this series and will always learn something new along the way.
Thanks for the effort pix! 🎉
I started watching Pix when he did the survival guide in 1.13 and fell in love with Minecraft…he was the first RUclipsr I couldn’t wait for his new videos to come out, he always explains everything so throughly. I have high hope for this series.
I am so excited for season 3 really looking forward to playing along with you pixlriffs!!
im really looking forward to this season after enjoying last season so much. i didnt really learn anything since i have been playing minecraft for such a long time but i still found the videos entertaining. very happy to have something to look forward to in my day.
Survival Guide Season 3 :D ! Excited for this season
The joys of starting a new world. It never occurred to me, but I'll be able to watch these videos again when I switch from Bedrock to Java since you're describing how you're playing.
I get inspired in my own minecraft world when watching your tutorial videos. you have helped me with so much in the past with mobs farms, gold farms, honey/slime farms, and redstone/flying machines. thanks again for the content Pix.
I absolutely love the calming, educated tone in your voice. You sound so knowledgeable and well-spoken, I'm willing to learn everything from you that you can share with me. I am so excited to build a world in the same seed with the same mountain in my background view as you, although I landed along the shoreline and started building inspired by seaside docks and fishing towns. Cheers mate!
although I know how to play minecraft, I really enjoyed the chill vibe of this video! I really wanted to watch a 1.20 series and I heard you talking about this on the podcast so I decided to watch it, and I’m glad I did :)
First actual starter house i see a RUclipsr make. I always pressure myself too much to create a fancy and big starter house but I don't know how to build much there aren't that many in-depth tutorials explaining the how in an easy way of how to build in Minecraft. Due to all of those reasons i always restart my worlds and stop playing Minecraft for a few years. So thank you! I would love more redstone and building tutorials! Thank you for this realistic start!
This new formula for the Survival Guide is pretty great. Get all the very important information/tutorial out of the way in the beginning and then expand for a more in-depth look at the topic.
16:33 Did you know if you wear leather boots, you can walk over powdered snow unaffected.
My friend was busy working on their house in the mountain slops, and my other friend noticed they weren’t sinking in the powdered snow due to the leather boots.
I think leather armor is like snow gear.
I can't wait to see how your world differs from mine, as I am semi following along while doing my own thing at the same time 👀 seriously looking forward to this series!
I admire you so much. You keep doing the same thing again and again but never get bored because u care about ur fan base so much. True respect.
Loving this world already! Also the little, genuine starter house is so nice. Can’t wait for more survival guide 😊
Been playing MC for 10 years near as, across so many different versions and even tons of modded versions. Hell, I've literally destroyed every block in the world in one of the modpacks. But I'll be damned if I don't love watching your Survival Guides. You're great to listen too, and there's a lovely little bit of charm with the whole series. And there's always nuggets to take away, even for the experienced players. Can't wait for more, and stay cool!
Pix has already taught me a lot about Minecraft but there is a comfort in watching the Survival Guide. Glad to have it back!
I left Minecraft for about some years but I guess its time for a new start, this guide actually motivated me to do so.
Thanks Pixlriffs,
Not even a beginner, but I still am so excited for more videos in this series! Can't wait! I've been trying to get my brother to play MC with me for years, maybe I'll have to send him this.
Pix, this season of Survival Guide has brought me back to Minecraft, just like S1 and S2 did. Looking forward to trying out the new 1.20 features! :)
Love the house design, btw. Very interesting!
and just like that, i am obsessed with Minecraft again, i will be spending the rest of my time over the summer watching and playing Minecraft.
That last two of these I have lasted a few months then watched the odd episode here and there. This will be the season I see every episode, I hope 😂
I reset my chunks outside my base. The joy of finding cherry trees not far from there was the most excited ive been in minecraft in a long time
I found the first season of Survival guide and it really helped me as a player. and now i watch every season just to see if there's anything i missed as the updates progress. Also good when i go through my yearly minecraft binge...
Along with everyone else I am thoroughly delighted to see the start of a new Minecraft Survival Guide by Pixlriffs. The first two seasons were wonderful and eminently instructive. I expect the third season to be even better, especially with the new 'tutorial/let's play' format. I noted a couple of things that might bear a little more discussion. Given that getting killed in circumstances where the respawn point set on a bed is not available, it might be wise to build a simple starter house near the world spawn point to ensure that shelter will be immediately available and provided with basic necessities. Also, some players might be tempted to craft a wooden or stone sword at the beginning. While that's fine, relying on an axe as a weapon may be better as it delivers more damage, even if it is a little slower. Swords really don't become more powerful until they can be enchanted. Finally, be aware that zombies can knock down doors at the Hard difficulty level. There are steps that can be taken to deter 'party crashers' when playing at the Hard level from the get-go. Keep up the good work, Pix! I can hardly wait to see how this series develops.
I've been watching since the very first episode, and I've learned so much since then. Thank you for all the entertainment, and here's to what's to come 🍻
Starting minecraft after so long. Happy to watch you again :)))
I didn't realize just how much I missed the survival guide.. glad to see it back pix 😭
I've been playing MC for years. And still I can't explain why I like these survival guides sooo much !!
Season 3 LET’S GOOOOO 🎉🎉🎉
Love the effort and work you put into all your video. Thank you lots.
Honesty your videos are something else man. I’m 18 now going to college but when I watch one of your videos I feel like I’m 7 or 8 ready to tell my elementary school friends something new I just learned about Minecraft😂 Keep being great! 🤘
Very impressed with how you've used the A-frame design to give a cool look to a very basic starter house.
As a technical writer, I think the new format is delightful. The tutorial could be a video all on its own, and I'm happy to stick around for the details.
I decided to try out playing along and started a world with the seed yesterday. Didn't find the cherry tree mountain right off, so ended up settling onto the meadow full of cornflowers for my start. There was a tree with a bee nest and cornflowers are one of my favorite minecraft flowers, so I just couldn't resist.
I usually dig in rather than build up for my first home. A cave with a torch, a bed, and a chest is enough for the first few nights.
I'm very glad I've found this series, I've been playing Minecraft for an extremely long time (first time I played hunger didn't exist) and I've always loved the game ever since and slowly got bored and it became a thing I played every 6 to 12 months. I've never beaten the ender dragon or even had a long term survival world and I'm following along with you series so I can get my Minecraft knowledge back and learn some new stuff while having fun!
