Is it really worth the extra money vs the austral?
I drived only Austral, but judging by materials in Rafale when I sit inside, not really. Very similar, just a little bit larger. If you need a bigger car than Austral, go for the new Superb or similar D segment car. You can get a decent one for about 10% less money than Rafale and more space.
Also, as a Renault fan, I gave up on both Austral and Rafale. This hybrid was LOUD when pushed (noisy 3cy petrol engine) and in Austral you can also get a 160hp non-hybrid, but it's only 1.3 turbo on a 1.6 tons of car... I (88 kg) went with a friend about same weight and a salesman, so with 3 adults it was just not pulling even through slightest uphills.
In the end, after a decade of enjoying french cars I went with Mazda; it might not have the post-modern ambilight but materials are much better, thicker, softer than in Rafale even in 3/CX 30 (I was shocked) AND you get a 2/2.5L petrol engine that will break down never.
Also checked out the Peugeot 3008, loved it on the inside, but the price, oh man... :S And also missing an engine between entry one and top hybrid. Seriously, FR cars need a proper 1.6-2.0 petrol engine to fill the gap "too small - hybrid"
that glare from the sun on the angle of the glass is really REALLy Bad, but 2oohp from a 1.2 im a little worried about engine life, if it has a wet belt like fords I'm firmly out
The engine is actually 130 HP, the electric motor provides the rest of 70 HP.
How hard to read do we want to choose the colors of the speedometer? Renault: "YEEESSSS". How annoying do we want to make the turn indicator sound? Renault: Boing Cluck YEEEEEAHHHH"
