That's not the actual cost. The hospital and insurance will go back and forth about the cost. If the customer paid for 100% you'd see real prices for it.

You mean FREE for anyone/everyone or covered by the insurance for all who have a job?
@@Lilaliba88 - No, i mean free for everybody. Regardless of if you have a job or health insurance. The only thing health insurance gives you in Australia is your choice of doctor and a single room in the hospital. It’s the same for any medical condition. It’s absolutely free. Operations, hospital stays, consultations, scans, pathology is all free. You don’t receive a single bill. Pharmaceuticals cost $6.60 (the rest is paid by the govt). Best health system in the world. We can afford to do this because we don’t spend half of our GDP on military like your govt does.
We have a similar thing in Sweden. I got sent to the ER for kidney stones and it cost me 40 euros in total. Also my medication cost like 10 euros. I’m happy to pay that when I see americans paying hundreds of thousands. No wonder they have so many homeless, get sick once or lose your job and you’re fucked

Haha. Male??
It's free in France, everybody has heath insurance and it's free. Sometimes if you choose some options you can get charged but most people has a second heath insurance called mutuelle and it covers for everything. We pay a lot of taxes, through, but you don't pay a dime for health or education. University ( law school, medical school, undergrad...) cost less than 1000€ a year and most people got tuition so it's free.
In Australia, it cost zero to have a baby delivered with a 3 night stay, that's without insurance!
Don't understand how the American system can charge out of their butts for this stuff.

Had a child in NICU for 5 weeks... didn't even have to pay for parking as I was entitled to a pass for the duration. Will def take the system here in Aus over that of the USA! (Though our gov should still increase funding to reduce patient wait time, since it was throttled in previous cuts)
Too bad the waiting is terrible, I once waited 7 hours for a 20 second meeting with a doctor. But overall our health care over here is pretty good.

Swede here, my partner and I had our first child born in weak 29+3 last November (2023) with an emergency c-section after my partner developed preeclampsia. We both had to stay at the local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for about a month. We later transferred to the Neonatal Care Unit (NCU) for another 2 months, totaling a bit over 3 months in the hospital and away from work.
I could not begin to imagine the amount of stress if we had to pay for that stay and not get our income at least almost covered by the national insurance fund. My partner also had what we call pregnancy insurance that gave her additional monetary means above the national insurance fund.
In the end, it cost us nothing, however since I earn more than the national insurance fund covers I lost about 15% of my monthly earnings.

The thing with healthcare is YES, it should be free. However, do you know what it takes to train some of these doctors? You’d think our taxes would be significantly lower since our healthcare and college/university is not covered, but we pay up to 40% in taxes as well.

I had twins through c-section a couple of years ago. One of the boys didn’t put on weight as he should, so me and my husband stayed 4 nights. The bill was like 40 $, or 400 SEK (🇸🇪), and that was just for my husband staying. Last year I gave birth at home (baby nr 4) so we had to take an ambulance to the hospital after the birth. We stayed 1 night. Again, the bill was only for my husband staying with me and nothing else. That bill was basically nonexistent. 🙌🏻
