  • David Korten critiques the current capitalist system for exacerbating economic disparities and undermining the democratic process, suggesting that it operates counter to the interests of the broader society by prioritizing corporate power and profit over community well-being and ecological sustainability. He advocates for a transition towards a more equitable and sustainable economic model that prioritizes local control, community values, and environmental stewardship.
This 2011 interview with visionary and noted author David Korten (When Corporations Rule The World; co-founder of YES magazine) is remarkably relevant today. Korten argues that capitalism inexorably leads to consolidation of wealth and political power that's self reinforcing and cannibalizing upon society-at-large. There's much to chew on in this interview, you decide if he makes his case and whether you feel his ideas best describe our world today.
Fair warning: in this polarized time in which we live, some people (perhaps many), are not going to like what they hear. Nonetheless, these are the types of conversations that are taking place even at the recent 2019 Davos Economic Summit where the rich and the powerful meet annually to discuss world affairs. I respect you and your knowledge of gardening but youre coming off as ignorant if you dont see the impact that politics and economics has on the world we live in. It shouldnt be taboo to talk about subjects like this.
The other uploads on this channel talk about seed monoplies, the death of our oceans, and GMOs, things (I assume) you feel strongly about so you should be aware that all of those are allowed to happen due to economic and political decisions.

He who knows how, he can speak of the hard stuffs in Political science, economics, administration, biology to be a chewable stuffs, easy to understand even to high school crews. I adore him so much. His knowledge and conscience are truly derived from the hands on experiences, not just sitting in the comfortable library reading books and came up with fake conclusions.

David is 100% right!!! Great interview, thank you for posting it. Now that those huge corporations are trying to own the rights to food production, we all should care.

I think Mr Korten has a very poor understanding of what he is talking about. This reflects badly on the channel.

Lol yet he puts forward logical, evidence-based arguments and you do not. How convenient.

HELL YES. Democracy cannot exist under capitalism. Especially the “representative democracy” system we have now.
