Hi Jim, just added a mg4 trophy extended range @ £26300 saving 11k to the mg5 trophy long range £21490 i bought last month saving a total of approx 24k of list. That is about what I lost in 2 years on a bmw i3s. Crazy. Love the chanel by the way.
Something very wrong with the car market for Porsche and Audi to offer discounts…. Shows how overpriced these cars are brand new! Great video, keep up the good work👏👏👏
Personally I just can not get my head around paying so much for road tax on a car that is clearly NOT a luxury car. I will be avoiding this, blatant ripoff in anyway I can.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru as per always the motorist the government of the day's best cash cow lease em lease company pays the car tax sorry road fund licence 🤬🤬🤬
Absolutely Crazy discounts but I still believe a lease would be a better financial decision in the long run especially on the more expensive stuff and that Maserati will still have a deprecation curve like a dive bomber cheers Jim
I’ve started leasing for the first time recently, after being a cash buyer for many years. Market is just bonkers since Covid, cant tell which way is up and I’d rather limit the downside. I’d be crying if I brought one of these cars near list a few months ago and started seeing these whopping great discounts. Like an immediate £5k - £10k down the pan in depreciation, which would be the cost of a 2 or 3 year lease.
Why do the manufacturers set the retail price to £45k then discount to £39k? Their punters will end up with the stoooopid 'luxury car tax'. If the government were sensible, the threshold would be like to inflation as a minimum, even better index linked to car prices.. Since it was introduced at £40k in 2017, it should be £52500 now just with general inflation using BoE inflation calculator.
@@rickyjulian496Its not so much that, its Whatcars 2nd most unreliable car in the UK. MG don’t honour the warranty properly either, they quoted an average payout for refused warranty repairs, that I can’t remember.
The LEAF is the one car I would worry about battery degradation on, in particular the old 30kw/hr one. We really liked ours but it came a obligatory monthly torture to plug in Leaf Spy and see how much capacity we had lost (think it was about 30% after six years).
The 30KWh version was bit of a dud. We've got a 2014 24KWh one, still does 80 miles in the summer and 70 miles in the winter with the heating on. 72k miles on the lock. 1 bar lost on SOH.
@@eddthirty4065That's probably nearly better than the 30. I think we were 3 bars down but after the first one they seem to start going more quickly as I think the first is about 15% then about 6% each bar after that. I do sometimes consider getting a 24.
Some of these cars (i.e. the ones with miles already) look "pre-reg" to me. i.e. they are "almost new", but you will be the 2nd owner as the garage has already "bought them", usually so they make a sales target with the manufacturer. It typically doesn't matter to most people, but nevertheless if you sold relatively quickly (i.e. under 2 years) some people may think there must be a problem with it, if it's been sold "twice" already. Ultimately a "pre-reg" should always be at least 10%-20% cheaper than the "list", (a) because no one pays list anyway, and (b) they want to get the car off the forecourt ASAP.
I have a leaf and although it’s ok value it’s old tech from a company whose stock is rated as junk. I wouldn’t pay £17k they’re much cheaper nearly new and likely to get cheaper still.
The Xpower looks the pick of the bunch, does the ID3 hit the premium tax, or is it a shade under the £40K. I seem to recall for a short while you could get the Maxus for £100/month, Modern Hero got one.
Good video as always Jim outlining the huge discounts being offered. As a motor industry veteran a couple of things to bear in mind. Todays discount is tomorrow’s depreciation so if you plan to change the car in 2-3 years you’ll take the hit then if you plan driving it forever no issue. Discount off list price is only good if you feel the RRP is well priced to begin with . Most of the list prices are way overpriced to begin with so the discount is not as good as it looks. Finally why are these discounts so big ? Because they can’t sell them in the first place that’s why .
gotta be careful with those MG prices, the best deals are usually Affinity prices and if you're not eligible, it's a few grand more. they're not great at making that clear in the advert either
I love your videos superb channel. But please could you have sections for each car makes forwarding to the car I want to see much easier thanks look forward to the next video.
No. That would mean RUclips would show my video to fewer people. You, for example obviously have t watched the bit at the start where I talk about this. If people only watch 3 mins of a 30 min video the algorithm basically kills it; adding timestamps would only make the situation worse. I’d love to make it easier for everyone but RUclips makes it tough.
Hi Jim, thanks for another video. You mentioned about watching the video all the way through, and this helps the ‘algorithm’. I often wondered how RUclips works, eg if you start watching and then stop but finish the video later, is that the same as if you watch in one session? I always watch your videos in one session, but not always other channels. As you and others spend so much time creating the content, I want to watch in a way that benefits you the creator. I don’t think the viewing public knows how the payment for videos work, and the best way to benefit the channels we subscribe to.
Hey, hoping for a bit of help. I have a lease deal which I havent signed, because they say theres a £400 fee if I wait 20 weeks for delivery and decide I dont want it any more

Moral of the story they’re overpriced to begin with.
Exactly, totally agree..
👌
The £88k Porsche Taycan is actually slower than the MG4 X-Power on the 0-60. Just goes to show how mental the MG4 is.
Crazy times Mike! 👍
Watching these videos I get that little bit of euphoria that the ‘uk news’ or other social media doesn’t give me anymore 😊
Thank you!

The Michael has been well and truly taken, that’s for sure. Taxing everyone to the hilt only stifles the economy.

Absolutely agree. I don't know why the British public are not calling out this tax. We are too nice
The luxury car tax only applies to new car registrations FROM April 2025 afaik so we’re ok for now
Yes that's my understanding so buy anything now and you don't pay it?
Absolutely Crazy discounts but I still believe a lease would be a better financial decision in the long run especially on the more expensive stuff and that Maserati will still have a deprecation curve like a dive bomber cheers Jim
Yep, I’d still take a lease over a lot of them.

Shocking tax rises from next April especially on cars over £40k msrp also cars new after this time normally £190 double that first year mad
It’s in the video

Same reason personal tax limits aren’t going up with inflation - intentional fiscal drag
That Maxus pickup the pick of the bunch discount wise.
Goign to get a MG4 trophy in a year as they are class.
👍
Great variety of savings Jim - many thanks 👍
Very welcome
Looking forward to seeing the December discounts with manufacturers trying to hit their year end targets on massively overpriced cars.
👍
I got a brand new Jaguar FType retail at £71500 for £49k that was a massive deal you won't get that anywhere now :)
Mg offers are only for affinity members only ,always read the small print
That mg4 looks a great deal if, and it's a big IF they turn out to be reliable in the long term.

Lfp battery should last 5000 cycles before it hits 60% capacity.

Great video Jim, as usual.
Q. Are those V8s discounted due to 2025 road tax (VED)? Would these be in the £5k pa bracket?
£60k for a 2Ltr "F-Type"... 😂
Sorry, it would be the Ioniq 5N all day long.
Same here
Don't forget the long range MG5. £10k off. Only £20,000 for an ev estate.
