  • My buddy and I were out railfanning on the Palo Verde and Southwestern the other day and got some really good shots of older and newer Southern Pacific motive power. We also came across a few Santa Fe trains that were running on S.P. rails. One was a loaded coal train being pulled by some F units and the other was a ATSF Hudson pulling a string of 3 axle heavyweights passenger cars.
Some trains of interest on this video segment is a 91 car Coal Train that is returning back to the mines for another load, a really long loaded Grain Train that is coming out of Canada, and a Pig Train being pulled by 10 (yes count them - there are 10 locomotives pulling this trains!) S.P. and U.P. locomotives.
This video is one in a series of three that we did on our railfanning experience of the Palo Verde and Southwestern Railroad.

Now that was the best video EVER on youtube! If I lived in say a place off the grid or somewhere like Alaska and lived a mile away from my neighbor and he could send me beer, jack Daniels and cigars via train now that would be epic!!

    Hi Dennis,
This is a gorgeous set-up and very well (artistically) decorated. I am very impressed by the size of your layout and how you blended the necessities of your rail network businesses and the realities of such a nice backyard. Can you help me please?:
What is the actual (average) weight of powered SP-movers and the ballpark average weight of your hoppers (filled & unfilled)?
Are all your SP movers powered (i.e how many powered-movers do you need to pull your 96-car consist?
    Thank you, Ciao, L

Give me a call and I will go over that with you / no problem! My cell number is 480-620-9459. If I don't answer on the first go around / please try again, and again. My home is solid block and the signal gets blocked every now and then (sorry about that!) But I would love to help you out with your questions / so you have a solid basis for beginning this hobby.Dennis

Phoenix Sound sends their new sound cards out with a steam locomotive sound. So if you have a Diesel Locomotive, you have to make that change which is a hassle. And we just didn't get around to changing the sound before we made this video. That's it.
