I think physicists could use a bit more imagination when contemplating their hard questions. philosophers can offer some imaginative constructs via their distinct pov - esp on highly speculative topics. their ignorance of the latest deep knowledge in physics is not a drawback, but a feature that yields a novel approach for physicists. there's value in sharing alternative constructs of reality among adjacent fields - if only as a catalyst when one is stuck... even if only a secondary or tertiary consequence of arguing in bars.
then, there's the timeless urge for a unified model of all reality. while its truth must be confirmed through scientific means, that truth could conceivably be derived through any field of knowledge.

      > their ignorance of the latest deep knowledge in physics is not a drawback, but a feature that yields a novel approach for physicists
What he's talking about is when philosophers say X, Y or Z will never be observed, but it turns out physicists observed X Y and Z to 5 Sigma confidence 50 years earlier, and the result has been verified using 3 different experiments since. That sort of thing happens a _lot_ with quantum mechanics.

I don't think any one discipline can provide the answers on its own but combined could be a force to be reckoned with?

An interesting nuance of science is that it can only provide "after the fact" observations. QM can tell you how many quarks are in a proton and how they are configured but can't tell you where they came from, how they got here, and why they exist in the first place.
... This is where philosophy steps in! Philosophy takes what science hands it and helps to paint the entre picture.
Even though science needs philosophy to delve into the reasoning behind everything it observes, and philosophy needs science to accurately describe the substance used behind its reasoning, both ideologies end up pointing their epistemological fingers at each other while shouting, *_"Take a look at the guy!"_*

QFT explains the existence of particles like gumballs in a vending machine. Just pull a lever on the machine and out pops a gumball. And should you ask where the gumballs inside the machine come from, QFT answers with, _"Well, ... from that thar machine!"_ ... To me, that's not a satisfactory answer.

The answer is time. Time is not emergent time is the reason things can emerge. Time is energy. Matter needs energy to emerge. What you are speaking on is pseudoscience. Real science is humans. Observing nature and nature has already provided all the answers. Some humans are still searching for the answers. However, the answer is constantly Present. Time. We experience time through our star the sun. For example, the periodic table. No star no oxygen. No oxygen, no consciousness. Think before you ask the redundant question of where did time come from. Research each word in that redundant question. You will find time in every word. Read more non-fiction. What is your age? No star no growth. What are you breathing? No star no oxygen.
