    I had to run out back and check out these old buses, they're absolutely beautiful to me. Here is a quick paragraph from Wikipedia on the company's history...
    The Connecticut Company was the primary electric street railway company in the U.S. state of Connecticut, operating both city and rural trolleys and freight service. It was controlled by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad (New Haven), which also controlled most steam railroads in the state. After 1936, when one of its major leases was dissolved, it continued operating streetcars and, increasingly, buses in certain Connecticut cities until 1976, when its assets were purchased by the state government

    The CT Company got their order of new buses in 1967 and were retiring the 1200 series coaches. I actually rode this one, 1257 and 1258 to and from Eli Whitney in 1971,72 morning and afternoon, 72-75 morning only from the Dairy Queen on Lombard and Ferry. Afternoons since it was specifically from Hamden to the New Haven Green, I could stay on all the way to the garage on James Street, cross the tracks and walk Peck Street to Fox Street. The 2000 series coaches had power steering and Air Conditioning. The car barn was of course the former Trolley Barn at State and James with the building across the street the other half at State and Blatchley with an entrance than descended into the building the same way the sidewalk slopes downward toward James Street. They had 2 speed transmissions, governors and rarely picked up enough speed to shift before someone pulled the buzzer cord to be let off or somebody was standing at a bus stop waiting to be picked up. The fare was 35 cents and when the bus did get enough momentum to shift, it would do so with a loud clang.

      And I agree, that wrecker was beautiful. I knew they had some old buses back there but never expected they had saved one of the tow trucks. That was one bad ass truck in its day, still is

    Have you visited the Museum of Bus Transportation in Hershey, Pa.? They have a collection of over 40 buses. They have an open house event called the Spring Fling on Saturday, June 1. They have buses on display in the bottom floor of the Antique Auto Club of America's museum on Rt. 39, and have their own storage location for the rest of the collection a couple of miles away, not open to the public except during this event. They run a shuttle between the two locations during this event.

      I love these things. Such beautiful styling. Before my time, but i do however, remember seeing the G.M new look buses everywhere when I was young in the 80s.
      They were no big deal, just an old bus. But now you never see them. And when I do it's like holy crap, those things are actually cool looking too..
      Just something about the 4 round headlights and those tilted forward side windows.

      Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. When I found out we were going there I remembered about those old buses out back, but that old recovered abandoned trolley was an awesome find.
      When I was a kid that used to allow you to tour the Barnes where are they are restoring these, but none of that was open this time. Not sure if it's just because it's so early in the season that nothing is ready for the public yet or if they just don't offer it anymore. Either way I did make another video with some of the restored trolleys, and even all of those Barnes weren't open yet, so I'm thinking it's still early in the season. It'll be a little bit before I put the other video together yet, but I even got some footage riding on the rails in one of the trolleys. The man said it's a piece of an original trolley line and the tracks were laid in 1900!!

    • @FullDarkParanormal
      @FullDarkParanormal 5 лет назад +1

      RICH DISCOVERIES Holy shamoly, still on the tracks!! We had an old trolley system in the city I’m from and there’s only bits and pieces of tracks in the pavement or between the older bricked roads... you’re inspiring me to get out there and look for some of our old trolley remnants around the city!!

    • @richdiscoveries
      @richdiscoveries  5 лет назад

      @@FullDarkParanormal apparently that piece of line that I rode on retired in August of 1947 and the museum that was already in operation elsewhere took possession of the track the following day. The guy said the power was never even turned off since it came into operation in 1900 except for repairs and replacement of pieces over the years. Once they took possession of it, they moved their entire stock and everything over to this location and most of the cars they have were all bought right after they were taken out of service. A lot of thier stuff it's still in Fairly original condition and has been garage except for when it's used with the museum. Definitely a really fun place to experience and supposedly the longest operating Trolley Museum in existence

      I ended up filming some trolley stuff as well, but I was disappointed to see that they don't let you in the old restoration Barnes anymore. I don't know if it's because it is still very early in the season and everything might not be ready for the public yet, but I would definitely love to see that portion again. I remember these guys were restoring these old trolley cars with a lot of the original tools that were originally used to build them

      I really liked the blue tow truck! I'm good still hanging out above lake pleasant with the donkeys. I really like doing the abandoned but my donkey videos are getting some great views. My top 12 videos 5 are donkeys. One I uploaded 11 days ago and it has over 8000 views. It's crazy 28 countries watching it mostly countries like Iraq, Brazil, Afghanistan, Iran, India, Egypt. Places like that only like 20 percent is the USA. I'm happy it is helping me get my view time. I have a few more things this next month to take care of an then hopefully I can get back to what I love the abandoned places. Great stuff love your channel!

    It looks like the rail car in the beginning (and towards the end) is a former Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 4000 series "L" car from the 1920s. Looks like it may have been purchased for some electric parts such as the truck assemblies with their traction motors considering that much of the rest of the car is in a bad state of repair. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

    The #1261 Coach and on through the 1400/1500 series Coaches of which I rode every day from Lombard Street to Eli Whitney in Hamden from 1971-1975 were the predecessors to the 2200 series coaches that were new in 1967 and phased out the 1950's models. The green and yellow coach is likely from the old North Branford line which plied Route 80 to the High School and to Downtown New Haven. There were coaches similar to the #1261 but shorter and of a paler blue that was the old Orange Street line that went from the East Rock neighborhood to Downtown. The fare was 10 cents and 35 cents on the CT Company. Both the CT Company and GMC conspired to eliminate the Trolleys and replace them with rubber tired buses. The original CT Company car barn was on James Street and State, also the original Trolley barn with an adjunct barn a block up the street at State and Blatchley. There is (or was) a protrusion on the sidewalk closest to Blatchley Ave where the Trolleys entered the barn as the James Street side of the building, (formerly Robby Len and Interstate Container in the 60's) was considerably lower. All in all a great video! Thank you, Rich Discoveries. When us Baby Boomers are gone, so is much knowledge of New Haven's History.

  • @ramblerclassic400
    @ramblerclassic400 5 лет назад +2

    The green one you showed first is an ACF-Brill from SEPTA in Philadelphia. I think it's a trolley bus with the poles removed. The old bus with the roof over it is a late 1930's Yellow Coach, which was what GM buses were called prior to 1943 or so. The roof is over it to protect it from further deterioration. I rode the GM with the broken windows back in 1980 when the museum hosted an Association of Railway Museums convention.

And that train car by the building, it looked unrestorable. Sorry about the my spelling. But hey, you did a great job. Two guys pushing other channels is better then just me. We hope to bring you better ways to build your channel. This guy lost his channel, RUclips took him down. It had something to do with copy rights. So now he has to upload all them videos back. It's allot of work. He had a great channel and were going to maybe make a video on it. He will be my guest. So keep up the great work Rich, were here to help.

    • @richdiscoveries
      @richdiscoveries  5 лет назад

      They had that music playing throughout the whole place on multiple speakers. It wasn't too bad back here, but I did make some other clips for another video of a few of the trolleys and even a little bit of a ride on one, but that music is blasting throughout every clip. Right before we left they turned it down, but it was too late to go back and refilm everything. I still may use it, not sure yet. I love that place. Apparently they bought the property the day the original line was shut down in the late forties and have kept that quarter mile stretch of line in operation since 1900!! Definitely a really cool place with a ton of trolleys and still restoring more
