I live in UK and many years ago worked in a shop and found if I put (full priced) items into a big box, customers flocked to it thinking they were getting a bargain!! I put a sign on the box saying prices as marked on individual items. I did this once a month and never ever had anyone question it even though the same items were priced and displayed on the shelves….not my fault they didn’t come into the shop proper! 🤭😉
It boggles my mind how many people think it is ok to let their children disrespect other peoples stuff! I’m glad they had to pay for the things that were broken. Maybe they learned a lesson? I love the 3D printed stuff. We have a craft lab at my local library that has 3D printers that you can use to make whatever you want as long as it doesn’t take more then a hours to print. It’s sooo fun! I’m so glad you were at least able to clear out some of your older stuff and that you had a better market this time. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!!
If you saw my IG post of my display I had all the price points in one basket and the parents would tell the kids "you can pick from here or here" and they just dug 🤷🏼♀️
Those kids were a nightmare! Not once did I hear their Mom say “stop it”. Sure hope they don’t show up next Saturday at my market! I thought that 3D stuff was amazing, but I still don’t get how it works! Glad you made some money this time! 🦋💖
Nightmare, is a slight understatement. You are right the mom never tried to put them in check. I don't understand how the 3D stuff works, but it was cool she was so into it. You can tell she loves talking about it.
So glad this market was a little better for you 😊 Rest is good cause the heavy hitters start in September time to build stockpiles ❤ Have a great Memorial Day and Happy Crocheting 🧶
Your display was beautiful. I am surprised more didn't sell. On the bright side, you have great inventory for the future. The treasure hunt of a basket of goodies is fun. Another thing I've seen is grab bags.
You know you could try doing some baskets on some items and then other items on the shelves you know that way you’ve got a variety of both ways of displaying.
(And yes the kid selling 3D animals sold out. The other vendors had stuff to pack off, but he sold everything he had and evidently a couple of special orders where he was making dragons for people after he'd sold everything he had)
My last market I did the same. Sold 44 items and 28 of them were out of thd CL bin. For that location I think I will continue the CL bin. I already have my 5 and 8 bins. I do like it because I am not pressured to have a full or half bin of the same stuff.
It's just something about the word clearance, people love it. Congrats on a successful market. Agree, sometimes onesies are enough and a mixed bin is perfect for that.
I agree with you about separating your sale items and still giving people the pleasure of digging through to get a bargain. I'm going to try it at my next market because I have accumulated items I need gone to make way for newer items and to keep the regular shoppers intrigued with "what will she have this time" I have a few girls that look forward to getting a different $5 to $10 item each market (this is what their mum told me)
I'm glad this was a better market and that you got to yarn swap with Sue! The basket idea sounds fun, letting them dig for treasure ☺️ I am so jealous of the 3D dragon! I've seen them online but haven't noticed anyone local doing them. Though that's probably because I work weekends and don't get to the fun markets around here 🤔
@@KnottingHookCrochet I don't know, you talked about a night market with the possibility of gators. That sounded like it could get exciting - in a horror film sort of way 😂
Your plushies look so amazing in your market set-up. Your prices are so reasonable and you work so hard. I wish you the best and we all are rooting for your success. Your possum is so cute. I really have to get that pattern, which i think is your pattern, if i’m not mistaken. I also need to get your dragon pattern and i will, i promise. 😊
If kids are swinging stuff around and picking up everything, the parent should do their job and tell them to stop. I get picking up one or two things, but not everything. The table looks great.
I’ve had an adult pick up an item and swinging it around. I about came unglued! It took all my willpower to keep my mouth shut. I need to figure out what to say when this occurs.
I think people may not be buying a lot of things they don't need in this economy. Its a tough time for small.private businesses.Maybe people would prefer to dig for things to make it more like a game. The lest show I went to with my daughter, the food vendors didn't show either.
Are there other farmers markets near you? Maybe try somewhere else? It’s really difficult trying to get into these shows isn’t it? I am in eastern North Carolina. It only cost $10 to set up inside a nice bldg, everybody was super nice. I sold $365 in 4 hours. Think that’s where I will go all the rest of this year until last of November.
There is one that I know of but they already have a plushie person and they don’t duplicate. I’m sure there are more it’s just finding them. Yes good markets are hard to find!
Hi Robin! Thank you so much for the pattern info. Think I will make some of the cats for Halloween. Been doing markets also this year. Have you tried a farmers market? Just did 1st one Saturday and it was great! So many kids that bought plushies. Just an idea for you.
I was supposed to be doing a farmers market 1st Saturday of each month. But they messed up and didn’t have my info from me applying in January and did the same thing the next month so I’m stubborn told them to forget it!
Thanks for sharing! Very inspiring and am hoping to try a market someday. Although I’d love to (and feel confident they’d sell well), I’m worried about making and selling copyrighted things, like the Patrick figure, etc. I’d love to make and sell some of those types of characters but am afraid of getting sued someday for copyright or trademark infringement. Do you know of a work-around or have advice on making and selling copyrighted/trademarked items?

I was definitely fascinated by the 3 D toys I won’t even pretend to understand how it’s done but it is extremely cool!
Cool 3D dragon. So glad this market went better 🎉❤!!
Same here

I missed that post I’ll go check it out
So glad it was a better market. Your stuff is so well done. That 3D dragon is very cool.
Thanks Nancy!
That 3D printed dragon is so awesome! I might try a clearance bin soon
I have some old stock to get rid of.
You should! Or do some mystery boxes/bags.

Thanks! It’s a slow market I never expect to sell a ton there. I’ve been wanting to do mystery boxes so I may try that as well.
Yes we need to charge the trucks
Oh man, i was so sure a skunk would sell! 💕 they are so STINKING cute🤭
In fairness to the skunk, this is not the venue,
You know you could try doing some baskets on some items and then other items on the shelves you know that way you’ve got a variety of both ways of displaying.
Yes, that is what I was trying to say 😂 My bigger items neatly display and smaller low priced items in bins/baskets.
My daughter bought a 3D dragon like that at a school event and it lives in front of our TV now.
(And yes the kid selling 3D animals sold out. The other vendors had stuff to pack off, but he sold everything he had and evidently a couple of special orders where he was making dragons for people after he'd sold everything he had)
Doesn't surprise me!

That was a really good observation about the clearance basket. Hope that works well for you next time.

I think you DO need a display where a few items can be seen to attract people to your table. And then smaller stuff to dig through.

Baskets make it so much easier
Since your dragon that I tested I have crocheted nothing. I need something to get my crochet mojo back!
Me too! I going to have a change of pace make some other things, you know mix it up so it's not always the same thing.
