Really hope this guy gets support not just from the Japanese crowd but also abroad, he seems like such a genuinely great guy. People like him is what *made* Dota2- and Esports what it is, small-time LAN's in cramped studious, that's grassroots, that's oldschool, that's *gaming*. Cheers from Sweden!
If Japan's community grows even bigger, I think valve will start to pandering to Japanese audience. They might even invite Mara in future TI's since english can be taught and learned. I'm sure if Japanese Pro players rises, they might even rival China in terms of skill (Not being stereotypical of Asian here)
Japan + Dota 2 = happiness. I hope that Mara gets more credit. What he's doing is really big for the community, especially for the Japanese players. I hope that his hard work pays off. What a genuine happy man.
Reminds me of the small local lans I used to go to when I was a high school kid, playing Counter Strike with my friends for a 12 pack of Bawls. Cool to see a small community enjoying Dota.
Damn. This thing happen' to me tho. Back when i was in highschool. I will play dota in a small community in a very low standard cyber cafe. Together with my classmates we build 2 teams of 5 to make a tournament. What a moment
The thing I've just realised is that who joins dota2 communities, they are able to speak English. It's quite obvious that even Japaneses are mostly conservationist, speaking English isn't easy to them, but these do.
According to siblings(who live in japan) apparently the new generation or mostly the millennial and up know how to converse in english(probably the influence of improved education and internet) I would also agree that while coutries who have english as their secondary language don't talk fluently or a bit jittery when it comes to conversational english doesn't mean they don't know them. They just lack the opportunity to talk english rather than their native language (i can confirm this as i am bilingual with english being my secondary language)
Osamu-san is like the Killer B of the Japanese DotA2 scene; his passion for the game and his business sense can make for a potent combination to bring their nation to the fold.
@@jdoe3006 I'm just saying to call it heaven on Earth is a bit of stretch. Another bad example for Japan is it's 99% conviction rate. Or it's age of consent. I agree there are far worse places but it's hardly a utopia. Closest country to a utopia imo is probably Switzerland, over 50% of crimes there are traffic offences. Although it's main exports of tobacco and guns seem pretty distopian lmao.
I don't play Dota or understand half of it, but usually watch TI every year. Just saw this dude pop up during TI 2019 and had to look him up. Absolutely hysterical, and he brought back a lot of good memories from when I lived there. Most westerners view Japanese as very rigid/reserved (which isn't completely untrue), but I had a lot of friends with people like Mara and loved every second of this video. Keep it up, Mara!
My city had a similar tournament. Started out small and grew over the years always hosting Dota2 as one of its games. It was one of the reoccurring yearly highlights of my life, a tournament in a giant room jam packed with other gamers getting big sponsors. Eventually other games kept joining and new faculty replaced the old. The LoL faction started outgrowing other games. It got to a point where Riot was sending in so much support that Dota was removed to make room for more LoL. I regret not being part of the faculty when an offer was given to me because my feedback was ignored in retaliation to the shutdown of the Dota2 tournament. I wasn't the only one to protest. Support outnumbered other games they had but the new faculty was blinded by their own bias to change their mind. The excuse of "lacking numbers" when it was really 2 years of no advertising and turning the cheek lead to its inevitable downfall. When Mara said he hosts the tournament because it keeps the small scene going and the people enjoyed it which keeps him going, that really hit home. In a world swarmed with LoL and my own community betraying our own small Dota2 scene, I respect this man for his continued effort to keep it alive!
It warms my heart to rewatch people who is so passionate about dota. You don't have to be good or to have a shitton of mmr just to enjoy and be passionate about the game.
Japan is more interested to fighting games and it makes me glad to see that MOBA is growing in Japan as well. I hope there will be a high class japanese player someday
Japanese are so fcking good in playing games i wouldnt be surprise that one day there will be a japanese guy owning the TI stage! Brace yourself EU/NA/SEA!
If we can expand this, then dota2 surely will become the best game in the world. The only problem in dota2 is the community. I’ve been playing in EU, SEA, US, they all have same problem: cancer.
Yep pretty much, I think valve should bring back more of those events when DotA had a lot of game modes that give free stuff. maybe it may lessen the cancer idk.
Every computitive game have cancer community sir , the bigger computitive on the game the more toxic they are , because is too stresful in computitive game
Japan definitely has a quite small community for DotA 2, or even them MOBAs in general. They are big on the portable side of things though. I really do hope DotA 2 gets a Lil bit bigger with the efforts of people like these guys and of course, their products.
valve really should try to fund tournaments around the world. valve makes these kind of community videos, and meanwhile 100s of other dota communities barely scrape by with small prizepools, which is a bit hypocritical. I think it will give people a bigger incentive to become pro if there are more goals in reach of them.
I don't think valve will randomly throw out money like that. From a business standpoint, It's a big waste of money and placing a tournament on a place like Japan for example where the DOTA community is small will only yield loss than gain. Would you go to a LOL event hosted by RIOT if there's one literally right next to your house? Would a non-esport fan got to a DOTA event? Not likely.
I recently learned that the Esports scene in Japan is very small compared to the rest of the Asian countries due to the country's anti-gambling laws so this is a treat. Kudos to Dota for highlighting these small-scale events. More power to this Japanese guy as well!
I hope mara cup will have a special slot for Dota 2 points next TI9. Grand prize still oyster or special cuisine and decent cash prize for travel expenses.
Hi, everyone.

Just let Japanese famous anime voice actors cover voice all heroes then next TI would be easy reach 3 milion dollor or more!
Well done guys, it is a world of difference with subs, RIP Licky.

Osamu-san is like the Killer B of the Japanese DotA2 scene; his passion for the game and his business sense can make for a potent combination to bring their nation to the fold.
Extremely rare to see such a positive and happy guy.. Perfect example of someone who enjoys life
Japan is like heaven on earth, Nice community = nice country
Anshika Rushdie except for when it's not
now compare it to the pinoy community
Look up net cafe refugees before saying that about Japan.
Harry Weisner that is the equivalent to the homeless of other countries. what's wrong with that? at least they're not all over the streets

Mara you are amazing man and your laugh is contagious. Japan would be a nice addition for Asian Dota
Great cover. Been following dota since 2005. I thought dota is dead in Japan but there we go. Small community with big dota heart!
We need some Japanese subs to let more Japanese knows about this great contest!

amazing work and hope more supports to come on its way to this guy
Sumail the king wants the money not the food sir..
He can sell the food for money duh
he looks like he needs the food though
in Japan, esports are still not considered as real sport and thus, having money as the prize is illegal cuz it's equal to gambling in Japan.
@@ryanfariz6648 It has been changed, I think.
no gambling rule is easily bypassed. just do what pachinko shops do, get a ticket that exchanges for money around the corner
Mara you are amazing, keep doing what you are doing
The Mara cup is wonderful

Easiest solution to avoid cancer in SEA region is to give Philippines their own region!!! Those guys are 90% of the cancer in SEA!!
let philippines have their own server
mara cup will be the next major
Give this guy a major tournament!!
This makes my kokoro warm and happy
this is the best content ever
great video. thanks, Valve
