The thing I really like, is that Fear himself is really only scared by things that he doesn't know yet, or more specifically, he (and by that I mean Riley) doesn't have control over, which is why he is unfazed during the nightmare show for the most part despite being the personification of Rileys fear. That, and things that are actually dangerous. As they said in the beginning, one of his duties is keeping Riley safe after all.
In fact, Fear is a very strong emotion!!! Fear is a basic, emotional response to a perceived threat or danger. Fear is most powerful feeling the brain hates it and will do almost anything to relieve it even plot its own destruction.
He's not just the biggest scaredy cat on the planet, but he's got a proper personality and genuine reasons to be nervous. He's, like every character, AMAZING.
I adore how much effort the animators have put into the movements of his long swirly hair strand! Its shape perfectly matches the emotional situation (and even goes from ❔ to ❕sometimes)
