Thank you so much for this video. I just traded my 09 Ultra for my Dream bike a 2018 CVO Roadglide! The dealership helped me with some of the functions but this is next level. I didn't get a manual or any literature on the new bike and I've been struggling trying to figure it all out. This helped me a ton. Such a huge change from 09 to 2018. Thanks again Matt, Super Informative.
Learned a few things even though I have a manual (but in my defense it is a thick manual). LOL! A few tips I would like to pass along is I set my favorite stations on one screen. I found trying to organize in other means had me fumbling around too much while riding which was distracting me. Also, when I want to listen from my phone, I organized my music into smaller individual playlists so there is like 20 songs in the list. This way I can easily thumb through the selection from memory when riding using the handlebar 'thumb' stick without having to fiddle with my phone. I based it on the average time that my rides are. If I want a different selection, I disciplined myself in pulling over to fumble around on my phone to select a different playlist. Basically I would advise to simply it's usage especially when in traffic so as to concentrate on everything else around you cause those cagers aren't looking out for you.
Extremely helpful video. Matt I agree that most people do not get the most out of their system due to not knowing how to use it fully. My 2017 RGS provides much entertainment while riding by listening to music but I have not used the phone communication features as much. Your video will help me with this. Thanks from Ontario Canada.

I always put my iPhone X in the dash pocket plugged in on my 2015 Limited so it’ll charge and I have access to the iPod. Running a full face helmet, I’ve tried to set the audio and prompts to play thru the main speakers and telephone/intercom through the headset and it works well but I have to remember to set the VOX setting down or the headset microphone keeps getting keyed up and pausing my music. Really great video Matt thanks for making this. Ride safe

Not sure if you've addressed this in past videos or not but for awhile, at least when I got my 16 Road Glide Special the Apple iPhone 6 & 7 technology or it might have been HD technology didn't allow the text messaging auto response feature to work. I heard it was Apple who wouldn't cooperate with HD but I couldn't set it to auto respond a pre-programmed response. I was wondering if they've worked that out as of yet. It just seemed it occurred with the iPhone 6 and later.

Good call on the battery tender. Nothing worse then having your bike crash during a software update. In the Auto R&D industry we are constantly rewriting ECM's/TCM's etc... some of them can take 20-30 and even 40 minutes for high end vehicles. I've had batteries crash just seconds before the flash/reprogram was finished 😫

Can’t recommend the Stage II speakers enough. I could barley hear music at freeway speeds with the Stage I on my RGS. After adding the Stage II fairing and bag lid speakers and amps, it’s like sitting in a surround sound theater. Now I get copyright claims when I upload a video to RUclips. 😂

Rookie question, can I play music off a thumb drive via the USB and have my Bluetooth hooked in to receive phone calls? It seems like I have to pick Bluetooth or USB when I initially go to the media tab.
Another question I have been trying to update the system and I keep getting no media found then nothing? It will not update! I have extracted all info, I have left it still as a zip file still nothing!

Like you, I'm thinking of using my speakers for the radio. Do you use HD's headset? My understanding is by using a non HD product, it wont play stereo. Does the nav directions and intercom system sound quality suffer that much by using a non HD sena product?

Any idea how to make the phone the default connection? Let's say I turn the bike off then hop on it to ride. Sometimes the audio blasts a bunch of static from the weather band. Sometimes off of the USB if I have a flash drive in. How do I get it do default to the phone at turn on without having to menu over to the media and select the phone?
I have same radio on my 2017 how can I change oil pressure display from saying (ok) to psi reading I’ve seen a few that show it and there’s is same radio they was having problems with oil light coming on and on display it would show 14psi and would go up when gas is applied so do it only show psi when below current psi ???

I have a 2017 ultra classic with the Boom touch screen...I was using the ipod classic to play my music ...when I'm playing my music the left lower switch used to scroll to the next song..its not going that anymore..I don't know..do u have any thoughts on this??
Great video, just wish they fix the issue of FOLDERS, i use USB to store 20gb of music, all in different folders. U would think U can search by folder but no. it puts it all together 4000 song list.

It's a rather crude device, low resolution, small screen, no android auto and you need to install a whim, flash your system and a hd headset for stereo sound.
I just bought a 19 RGU and not spending another $400 for XM module. Has anyone used the XM cell phone app? If so can I just simply blue tooth my cell to bike and listen to XM? I'm just wondering if it will allow me to use the bikes controls to navigate around on XM or will I have to go directly to my phone to change channels?
I'm answering my own question lol. It will work but only way to change and see channels is through your cell. So I decided to buy the XM module. New Castle Harley PA, $299 vs $399.
How do you keep the radio locked on to the bluetooth, so you don't have to go to media everytime you turn the bike on, to listen to the bluetooth. When i turn on my bike, its always on the radio.
really...think half the story is missing...just how is one supposed to get music from a helmet...speakers...good...but how to connect to Boom Box? WHIM, HD SENA...hardwire? What about SiriusXM...another module. a lot missing.
@@MattLaidlaw I have the Harley XM receiver and installed it but when I contact Sirius they want the serial # from the radio.and don't know where to find it.
It’s on your home screen when you’ve selected the XM radio option. You have to go to a certain channel. Like double zero channel or something or maybe channel 100. I can’t remember. But the home channel will have your unique radio serial number at the bottom.

push the info button on the right hand control...It will give outdoor temp. oil pressure and the status of the Engine Ideal Temp mgmnt system

How do I increase the navigation volume? I can hardly hear it when it breaks the radio volume to give directions. I asked dealer they had no clue

Donald Joseph Wood no wireless interface module . You would need a wired headset. I’m upgrading the 4.3 to GTS so I can add WHIM and do just that
When I plug into the usb to charge I lose the connection and it says no playable media, iPhone?
The USB is just used to charge. The ignition needs to be on or in accessory mode.

You need the XM receiver first. Unless you bought a CVO then you don’t have one stock.
