SJR is the old unlocked for Canada on W, XAA is unlocked for US using U1, thats why they said to use XAA and not SJR because SJR doesnt exist for U1, only W. But now Canada now uses XAC for W. So, TL;DR, use U1 XAA for US, or W XAC for Canada.
I'm actually running U1 XAA on my W S21u because Canada gets super slow updates. Only issue is that Canadian 5G doesn't work on U1, Bixby alarm only reads Fahrenheit, no way to change it in any settings to Celsius, and Samsung Pay requires a Zipcode but we use Postal Codes in the frozen north. There's a workaround for that last one but it still has its limitations using U1 in Canada so W XAC is preferred for the majority as you lose 5G and the metric system with Bixby lol
This was the BEST tutorial I've seen. Special thanks for explaining the difference between the CSC and HOME_CSC files. I have a Work Profile for my job through KNOX and your explanation saved me a lot of time by using the HOME version! On ATT in the US and phone quit installing OTA updates since Feb. Nothing worked until I tried your steps and I am not current as of May 2022! Thanks again!
worked great for me in October of 2023 .. purchased a "W" version of the phone from amazon, needed it to be "U1" version for use on AT&T in USA, got it flashed and it's working perfect.
Thank you so much! I kept getting repartion or that one error! Was on the verge of giving up!!! But realized I was downloading 988u1 instead of 998u1 thank you so much!!

Thanks a bunch Ben; this really is very useful; finally I'm. able to get rid of the bloatware on my phone; and it is way better in terms of performance without the bloatware. Have a a great holiday.
Hi brother thank you so much! I was able to successfully flash my Carrier Unlocked S21 Ultra from Verizon from U to U1. I went straight from 13 to 14, no issues whatsoever. Although I got my ROM from Samfw because Frija didn't recognise my device. Although, I used smart switch to backup everything first, then factory reset the phone before I started flashing. The flash only took like 5 minutes.
Can't be soft-bricked if you flash HOME_CSC but in the most cases you have to hard reset it so it's the same. When cross-flashing must be wiped (backup first with SmartSwitch). Great video 👍
I flashed unlocked firmware with tmobile csc on my S21 Ultra and it still boots up with Vzw/Vzw/Vzw, it refuses to let me off of Verizon carrier settings, other carrier sims work in the phone and get service but I can't get their settings so I don't get the proper frequency bands for those networks Do I need to flash XAA csc?
Try flashing XAA for SM-G998U1 without a SIM card installed, set it up without a SIM card, and then install your SIM after. It might be reading the CSC off of the SIM and forcefully setting it during setup.
@@frozennorthproductions even that didn't work. No Sim, flashed U1 with XAA and it shows in service provider version vzw/vzw/vzw and even says vzw a 4th time in the line above next to G998U1-OYM
You can try changing your APN settings to match a different carrier with a different SIM card. Like if you toss in an AT&T SIM, if it still says Verizon, try changing your APN settings to AT&T APN, reboot, and it should switch. There's another way to change the CSC using a phone code followed by your IMEI, I can't remember how to do it, I'll have to look it up.
You have to open the phone app, and dial *#272*YOUR-IMEI-NUMBER# and from the window that pops up, you can manually change your CSC to whatever the firmware supports. Just to be sure though, you're flashing the entire XAA U1 firmware right? Like all files? BL AP CP CSC (not Home CSC) and then setting the phone up like new right? Cause if you're not flashing all files, and if you're using Home CSC, it's not going to remove the Verizon settings. It needs to be a full wipe cause you're converting the firmware. Once you're on the working unlocked XAA U1 firmware, you can use Home CSC for updates so you don't have to wipe everything but OTAs also work so you really never NEED Home CSC
@@frozennorthproductions 272 code doesn't work, Verizon blocks it. Also yes, I'm doing all files, with the normal csc file not home, the csc is literally locked to Verizon. But the phone isn't locked and gets service on other sim cards, just with vzw csc stuck to it
Hey James... How did it go? Were you able to flash the device and repair the connections issues? Interested because I have similar issues with my S21 Ultra. Thanks!
Once the unlocked official Samsung firmware is flashed, can the phone be used with any carrier? Edit: nevermind, i saw you answered this question already. Thanks!
What does it happen if you try to use "Factory data reset"? It will keep the latest firmware or somehow go tho the initial firmaware? I suppose it will keep the last firmware, but just want to have a confirmation from you. Thanks. Great video, btw!
I have US version SM-G998U (VZW) and flashed the SM-G998U1 (XAA) firmware. It says successful. It takes about 5 minutes, then gets in a reboot loop. I was able to delete data and it rebooted back to VZW ;( Help???
I definitely want to do this. When you mention to backup phone in the beginning, are you referring to the user data, or is there a way to back up the OS that is not covered in this video?
Test I had issues with Google Drive so I set up my own cloud for links, so all the files are all over the place right now while I get everything sorted out. There's new links to the Google on the Discord to the latest files right now but you can also find the latest Frija on XDA. As for backing up, I just meant user data using the Samsung Cloud backup, cause it will back up app data and everything
Pretty detailed video. Thank you. Unfortunately even though I followed everything step by step and did not have any problem during the process, the software version still shows the old one on my phone. Any idea why is that?
hello ben, my phone is currently an AT&T S22 that has been unlocked and the reason why i want to flash the unlocked firmware is so that I can recieve security patch and software updates from samsung because the carrier is not sending me updates and i don't live in America and use an AT&T sim. Once I flash the phone with the official unlocked firmware, will i be recieving updates automatically or do I still have to flash it every month? Also is it true that this whole flashing process will not work if the computer uses an AMD CPU?
If you flash the XAA version for that phone you will receive updates directly from Samsung, however it is no longer debloated from factory. Since OneUI 4.1, Samsung made it so when you insert a SIM, it will preinstall the carrier bloat, so your CSC will change to whatever SIM you're using. But, updates will still come directly from Samsung over the air like normal.
Also if you live in Canada, use XAC because it's in metric so a bunch of underlying stuff will be correct for Canada. XAA is imperial for the US. That's the only difference
It's normal for it to fail, it's failing because you have a U variant and it's seeing a U1 firmware, you need to use the patched version to bypass this check so you can successfully convert it over to U1
**Update** I did move from (T-mobile) U into U1 on my S23 ultra , I used Home_CSC file instead of CSC , Not as mentioned in the tutorial, before I start the process I full backed up my phone , just in case if anything goes wrong , thankfully I didn't need the back-up !! I did use Odin the patched version , the update is done, I took the risk ,now everything runs prefect and smooth , no any issues found, and all my data kept !!
The original method is to hit power while holding both volume buttons, but it doesn't work on some phones, so you can just try that to see if it works but usually the USB trick works everything.
Hey there, Appreciate the video. I have a question. My just received the lastest august update. But the latest firmware i can find on the phone has a date from may. Will that create an issue?
great video! i have 2 questions: 1. what is your recommended method to backup your data and settings? i thought about smart switch / google drive / samsung, but it takes HOURs to restore everything. i thought maybe an image backup to PC was fastest so i'm looking for any recommendations you got. 2. bought an unlocked att phone to switch to tmobile. still has att branding and some att apps/functionalities. i am thinking about U1 but also thought about flashing to tombile to take advantage of any incentives, such as the UI4 beta. thoughts on how to go about this? thanks so much!
I use Samsung backup to OneDrive because it backs up everything without needing root access like other apps. You would have to flash G998U TMB, have T-Mobile SIM, and then sign up for thr Beta, but I already have a video on how to get the beta without official access now cause in Canada we got left out from the programme
@@frozennorthproductions I'd appreciate your advice. I followed the guide exactly and used the latest 7/1/2023 U1 XAA firmware for my SM-S908U S22 Ultra. Before doing this, the firmware was TMB/TMK (Metro by T-Mobile) which was correct because my phone was originally from T-Mobile. After flashing the XAA firmware and restoring my backup, my phone is stuck on: TMK/TMK, TMK/XAU. I don't understand what I did wrong. I thought my phone should be all XAA now. I used the right firmware and patched Odin. I didn't flash with a SIM card in. In fact I had an eSIM for a Verizon MVNO, not Metro or T-Mobile. I'm totally lost. Is this to do with my backup? Did I restore the old CSC somehow?
Odin showed a successful flash, but when my s21 ultra 5g on the uk 3 network restarted, a pop-up appeared stating there was an attempt to change the firmware and it reverts back to the old firmware. What is blocking the flashing on my phone? Odin states everything went OK but something on/in the phone refuses the update. I've tried both the csc files and same thing. I've tried BTU and BTE for the UK S21 ultra and still no luck! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
So I have a U Model which I flashed successfully to U1 and the latest OS updates (yay!), but even though I picked XAA, the CSC is remaining CHA. Any reason for this? How can I change my CSC to XAA as my carrier isn't even Spectrum (CHA)?
Which phone do you have man? I've got a US-imported Galaxy 22 Ultra which although does work with the sim card in my country, still won't receive any OTA updates. Some reddit post says that I need to flash the U1 version. Have you been able to fix yours?
Very nice to see you're still replying to comments under this video! I'm trying to get an unlocked sprint s21 to the XAA version (G991U ---> G991U1). Would it be fine to restore data from smart switch through usb from a computer after flashing?
If I want to have the settings of T Mobile networks can only flash CSC and nothing else? It is that Verizon does not let you select the network mode. I just flashed from U Verizon to Global U1, but I still have that annoying Verizon network setup. In short, I cannot select at will between 5G or 4G.
I watched the video on flashing using Frija and Odin. I completed all steps but when the phone restarted it came up stating, basically, it did not work and gave me some options to 1. Try again 2. Reset to factory settings and 3. I do not remember the third option. Do you know what else I can do? The phone is locked on frp mode. Do you think that has anything to do with it? If so, is there a way around it? Or do you know of a legitimate company that will unlock the phone? I am at the point of messing with it, that I am willing to spend a little bit to get the FRP lock removed if that will help. My current phone is totally broken. I purchased this one because it was cheap and I am broke. Thought I could get it to work. Thank you for any advice or help. Great video.
FRP locks are illegal to remove and you need to contact someone who is able to do it with a tool used to remove FRP locks. Flashing new firmware will not remove an FRP lock because the lock is assigned to the phones serial number and has nothing to do with the firmware. You also need to make sure it's the right hardware, if you're using an exynos model phone and flashing snapdragon firmware, it's going to fail every time, same goes if it's vise versa
@@frozennorthproductions Who is trust worthy to contact to use one of the FRP tools. Almost every application I have looked at seems to be a scam. Thank you for any advice.

Hi Ben, I tried to flash from G998U to G998U1 using the latest XAA firmware (G998U1UES5CVCB). It went through, but after rebooting, it's complaining illegal to update the firmware. The software version changed from ..._VZW/VZW/VZW (One UI 3.1) to VZW/VZW,VZW/VZW (One UI 4.1). But the good things are 1) bloat wares are gone; 2) U did get changed to U1; 3) phone still works. Since the CSC didn't really got changed, could the bloat wares come back the next time it updates through OTA? thanks
Did you use CSC or HOME_CSC? Cause doing from 3.1 to 4.1 using HOME_CSC would likely cause this as it's trying to restore 3.1 data on 4.1 which is impossible. But as long as it's working, you're good. Bloat doesn't get installed from OTA but if any Samsung update bloat. So like, Samsung apps can be bundled in the firmware updates, so you might get Samsung bloat but there's no way to avoid that. However, you could use ADB to remove them and it won't come back after updates cause the phone will already know it has it, it's just uninstalled for the user account and won't force the install again.
@@frozennorthproductions Thanks a lot for the reply. The purpose of this was to 1) remove the Verizon bloat; 2) change CSC so I could use this phone in case I travel to Asia. So I did choose CSC, not HOME_CSC, to flash. What I guessed was that the version 5 firmware has blocked what your tried to do. If I flashed newer 3 or even older 4 firmware (in stead of the latest 5) and converted the CSC first, then either flash to the latest or let the OTA to take care of it, then the result could be different. But now I am on 5 and can't go back to earlier version. Do you have any new idea to change CSC if you're in my shoes? I watched your newer video "stop Samsung update", I hope your problem has automatically been resolved with the latest firmware.

Can I ask your opinion on recovering data. My phone was factory reset a week ago and my last backup was 1 year ago. Will rooting my phone allow a software such as disk digger or fonepaw to find all my deleted files ?
I'm really not too sure, it's hard to pin point without diagnostics. Best I could say is just try it at a friend's place and see if it still disconnects. If it works fine somewhere else. It's your router. If it still drops connection, something is wrong with the phone, or possibly just a bad update. Which you would just need to install the latest firmware, factory reset, and don't restore a backup so all wifi settings are untouched and see if it's fixed.
I have this S21 5G (SM-G991U) with T-Mobile logo at the start up. I flashed it to SM-G991U1 and the T-mobile branding is gone which is the good news. Background: first owner claimed it works with Rogers SIM in Canada. Also, the phone settings shows it is UICC unlocked to support any SIM. Any suggestion to fix this issue?
Flash SM-G991W XAC. G991U1 XAA is for US carriers and some partner carriers will have issues on a US spec firmware. The main Canadian carriers like Rogers, Bell, Telus will all work fine on a U or U1 phone with XAA, but smaller ones like Koodo, Verizon, Chatr, Lucky, etc, those are kind of hit or miss since those generally don't have full 5G support so they usually require a Canadian firmware to work fully.

@@frozennorthproductions that's fair. I was just hoping there was a way that didn't involve me dumping a couple hundred bucks just to get root access to my phone. But I can say that I have flashed it successfully with unlocked firmware twice. I'm happy about having almost no bloatware.
Hey @Ben i have Canadadian S21 ultra 5G G998W and i have ATT unlimited plus plan that supports 5G but i only receive LTE+ never seen 5G in USA or CANADA, so do u think if i flash with SM-G998U1 it can work in USA at least for 5G? thanks your the best
Canadian 5G uses Sub-6 and US 5G uses mmWave. A Canadian S21 Ultra physically doesn't have the mmWave antennas. Like, inside the phone, there's an empty space where they should be. So, U1 phone will have 5G in US and Canada with Canadian or US carriers. But a W phone only has 5G in Canada with Canadian carriers. Unfortunately changing the firmware won't make mmWave antennas magically grow inside your phone. I was pissed when I discovered this while changing the back of my phone to fix a cracked camera lens.
I intend to use my phone in Africa. Although I'm thinking I can change my CSC to XAA if it's not already there before flashing SM-G998U1. Does this make sense?
XAA is US carrier radios, so it will only work on cell towers that use the same radio bands as the US. You would have to check which radio bands the carrier in Africa you're going to switch to, and see if those bands will work. I'm also pretty sure that Africa uses Exynos model phones, and U, U1, and W are all Snapdragon models, which can only use Snapdragon firmware) so your best bet might be to just sell the phone and buy a model from Africa since that will be guaranteed to work.
@@dominickabiru3534 I haven't gone through with it actually. I came back to this video to recap because I currently havem't gotten Android 14. As long as the hardware is the same, then yes. They need to both be Snapdragon, or both Exynos. You can not switch between them if the SoC doesn't match. You also need to use patched Odin when switching between regions

I have on my phone the latest firmware from verizon which is G998USQU5CVG9 and it want to flash the latest SM-G998U1 XAA firmeare which is G998U1UES5CVF5. Is it safe? Or would thsi be considered a downgrade. Thanks again for your help.
The last part of the build string is what you wanna pay attention to. U5CVG9 and S5CVF5. U5 and S5 is the bootloader version. Once updated, you can not downgrade. So which ever one is newer is where you will be stuck. If U5 is newer, S5 won't even flash, but if S5 is newer, you can flash it with patched Odin, but you won't be able to revert back. As for the last four, that's the build info. So C means One UI 4.1, V is the year, so 2022, F is the month, A is January, and L is December, so that's from F, or June and the other build is G which is July. So the U1 XAA build us a month newer. The last part is just the build revision, so 1 to 9 is revision 1 to 9, and A means 10, B means 11, and so on. So 9 is obviously revision 9 and 5 is revision 5. So Verizon U5CVG9 is One UI 4.0 2022 July Build 9, Official S5CVF5 is One UI 4.1 2022 June Build 5. So Verizon is newer by a month. The official version probably got hauled because of One UI 5.0 Beta
this is a great video but i have a few questions: 1. can i use the same method to install vanilla android from google instead of Samsung? 2. Would doing this process and installing either Samsung or straight android, does the phone retains 120 refresh rate at the highest resolution?
Android ROMs don't work like that, you would need an AOSP ROM for an S21 Snapdragon and an unlocked bootloader before you can make that work. So, the most vanilla Android ROM would ve LinageOS but because these phones have a locked bootloader, they don't make an official version. You would have to use the paid service by a developer on XDA, and then flash TWRP through ADB, and then using TWRP you can flash the unofficial Linage OS. Which WILL have tons of issues, won't have the same image processing for the cameras, and possibly be locked down to 60Hz unless there is an open source driver that supports these displays. Running an AOSP ROM on any Samsung is hit or miss, because Samsung uses proprietary drivers for all of the hardware, so you would be better off running stock debloated, or SamPWN, which is a ROM created by the same dev that offers the unlock service on XDA
Hello bro Kindly answer my questions please I've bought korean S21 Ultra 5G G998N that has LUC CSC for U+ and I'm currently on OneUi 4.1 A12 .. is that possible to use the same steps with the debranded firmware with KOO CSC and get this phone pure ?
Kind of. N variants have something called RMM I think? It basically blocks firmware installs from other variants because of legal reasons for people using other variants in Korea. More specifically North Korea, but South Korea has the same firmware and they also get the heavily locked down devices. Basically, you need to unlock the bootloader, disable RMM, and then flash a B variant firmware and you'll be good. But it's not an easy process and no one has actually shown a step by step procedure. We don't use Exynos phones in North America so I can't even get my hands on one just to try. XDA Forums will be your best bet for help on it. The easier solution is to just sell it on eBay or something, and buy a B variant phone instead.
@@frozennorthproductions thanks for replying 🙏 My phone doesn't have any RMM Protection.. the status line of RMM status is not even showing in download mode status .. But when my device rebooted .nothing has changed and the CSC is still the same as before LUC.
Do you have a LUC SIM installed? That's the only thing I can think of cause One UI 4.0 now changes the CSC on setup to match you SIM no matter what. Like if I flash W XAC, after setup, it automatically changes to W BMC because of my Bell SIM being installed.
i have the sm-g998b/ds vietnam varient (xxv) but live in USA and not getting the 5G logo from my carrier (tmobile) would flashing a different firmware help with this?
You have to check the radio bands, if the b/ds model doesn't support the same 5G radio bands, then it won't physically have the right chipset to actually connect to US towers. But, if the bands ARE all the same, then yes, flashing SM-G998U1 with XAA should fix this because it will just be enabling those existing bands in software.

it's factory firmware, warranty is still valid, Knox will not be tripped, and this is how you unbrick your device from a softbrick, so it's the safest method.
Any luck on converting an unlocked T-Mobile Note 20 Ultra from a carrier to a Samsung Unlocked firmware? Been wanting to try this for a long time now. Also, the phone in question is completely paid off and is able to use any carrier.
Hi can you do an OTA update after flashing cross firmware? Or you can only do manual updates via Odin. Because I want to flash my SM-N975U VZW changed to SM-N975U1 XAA. Thank you.
OTA still works fine, the only difference between U and U1 is the U variants get the updates from the carrier (so only a Verizon SIM will allow OTA using VZW on a U variant phone), but U1 is universal from Samsung and the updates come directly from them for any carrier.
Hi Ben, I have a Canadian S21 Ultra, can I load a HK firmware on my phone to unlock e-sim capabilities? I know bands will be different and I'll lose samsung pay, but will it give me e-sim? Have you tried this?
I have not tried this, but as long as e-sim is software based, than it should still work. If it's hardware based then the phone physically won't have the antenna for it
@@frozennorthproductions Its software based but my question is can I load the HK firmware on a Canadian device since they are both snapdragon variant? I just tried with odin and keep getting the following message "Secure check failed: (PIT)". It works when I flash with U or U1 firmware but flashing to a different region outside of north america doesn't work... any ideas?
Hi, I have a Samsung Z FLIP 3, it has the US Firmware and i am getting a message to contact Verizon support whenever i try to put indian sim, does flashing it to the Indian firmware will unlock the device carrier restriction? Its paid off and verizon says its unlocked but i am still getting this error
The Demo mode toggle is in Developer options. You don't need to do any flashing. But, if there's a password, then it was locked in there and you'll need to do a factory reset and just hope it won't FRP lock.
@@frozennorthproductions thanks for ur reply I truly appreciate it. When I click demo mode in developer options it say Demo mode isn't supported on this device
Do you have an actual demo device? Cause those are designed to not be flashed if stolen from big box stores. They're required to be sent back to the manufacturer after they are no longer on display and never supposed to be sold the public. But for smaller retailers they just use generic devices and Manually put them in demo mode. But if that's a big box variant, it's locked in demo mode because it was stolen lol. There's no way out of that, unless it's a small retailer model. Which there's really no way to tell other than the big box versions can't be turned off in developer mode, small retailers can and sometimes only need a passcode to disable it.
@@frozennorthproductions that's probably the case on that phone i was having hard time to Unlock it but i couldn't. Thanks again for ur response. And keep the channel up cuz it really helpful
what about rooting & unlocking the bootloader on the snapdragon because even though this worked on the s21 ultra 5g t-mobile there's still no OEM in dev options,(i feel like i've completed step 1 towards rooting this phone now step 2.....)
I have a s21 Ultra from panama (SM-G998B) and it's exynos. Do you know if it's possible to switch my firmware for a canadian one? I just moved to Canada and i'm trying to use samsung pay and such but it's not letting me because it's region locked. If possible, do i just follow your tutorial?
No, you can only use other Exynos firmware. Canada only has Snapdragon. But with Samsung Pay, just set it up and enter only the numbers from your postal code with 0's at the end. Like, if your postal code is A1B 2C3, you would enter 12300 and then you confirm the credit card with the prompt and it just works after that.

It's not a carrier unlock, it's the firmware from the unlocked model directly from Samsung. It just doesn't have all the carrier bloatware. You still need to fully pay off the phone first before you're allowed to do a carrier unlock with T-Mobile. This video is outdated though. As of One UI 4.1, the phone will automatically install bloat for whatever SIM you have installed now so there's no way to avoid it anymore.
Great Video! Followed directions without any problems. After booting I checked the Service provider software version and it says SAOMC_SM-G998U1_OYM_TMB_12_0036 TMB/TMB,TMB/TMB. Underneath That it now has Carrier configuration version 0.0.0. I tried switching to my network in Network operators but it says unable to connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm planning to buy an SM-G9980 version (Chinese Snapdragon 888 Dual Sim - Unlocked) but trying to change the CSC to Mexico TCE (Telcel)... I would like to use Samsung Pay... you think is that possible? In Mexico, we are getting Exynos Versions Only... Thank you for this amazing tutorial!
Just check the radio bands, if Mexico uses the same frequencies as the US or Canada than you can just flash SM-G998U1 for XAA and you'll be ready to go
hello, your odin download link is not working. can you please update that? secondly I have a 998U on T mobile, UICC unlocked, please advise if I flash the 998U1 XAA on it, will it remain unlocked?
Yes, all of my download links went down for a bit because Google Drive changed their Backup and Sync app to Google Drive for Desktop which wiped half my Google Drive cloud storage, everything should be working again but I'm moving to a new cloud storage in the future one I figure something out.
Thanks for the video, Ben! I just bought my S21 Ultra from the US directly from Samsung. I want to use it both in Canada and India from now on and I see that Samsung has disabled the e-sim functionality, don't understand why. If I flash to the G998W (SJR) firmware, will it unblock the e-sim functionality? According to GSMArena, both U1 and W versions support similar bands and W does even more. Note: I want to use the e-sim as the second sim with a physical first sim, I have two numbers. Waiting for your response. Thanks in advance.
I have never heard of e-SIM. Has never been a standard feature for Canada that I've ever used. However the phone directly from Samaung has all features. Flashing the unlocked firmware is only for the carrier limited phones. If you have an SJR, you have ever feature Samsung let's you have on Snapdragon. It's possible e-SIM only exist on the Exynos models.
@@frozennorthproductions thanks for the info. If you can, please check if you get that esim option in the settings? It's a two year old feature and some providers support it. You don't need to switch, just the fact that it's there will help. I'm trying to understand, if that setting is available and I put an esim there, will the phone still allow the physical Sim as secondary sim. Your tutorial is by far the best resource on flashing samsung native OS. So I think only you can help me with it.
@@frozennorthproductions I also have this problem, I need it to be dual sim in Canada. Does flashing like this make the "sim card manager" setting appear in the setting menu? This would answer the question im pretty sure.
One UI 4.0 Beta is out now, I just made a video on it, and it enables eSIM. The device now has /DS at the end of the model number signifying its a Dual SIM phone and I have the option for eSIM now. So, eSIM is coming to North America as standard with One UI 4.0
N variants are Korea models, you need to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP. Flash a RMM disable .zip, and THEN you can flash to the B variants. Korean models are locked down so you can't switch so you gotta jump through hoops to make it work, it's easier just to sell it and buy a B model
I bought a Samsung S21 Ultra renewed, right now it uses Verizon's firmware and I want to flash it to stock Samsung to remove the bloatware from Verizon and get rid of their stuff, as well as to have updates quicker. The sim is unlocked so I'm able to use my ROGERS sim card just fine but I just wanted stock Samsung. Would this work to do that and what firmware should I use then. Also would this work for the latest One UI or is it only an old version of Android. It is the SnapDragon Version, My model is SM-G998U.
Does this still work to get from tmb sm-g996u s21 plus 5g to the canadian w firmware, i read on the internet samsung might have changed how csc works...
They did, U variants get updates from the carrier, U1 get updates from Samsung. And W do both. If a W varient CSC is XAC, you will get the updates from Samaung. If the CSC is anything else, it comes from the carrier. But all of them auto switch now as soon as you put a SIM card in. For me, I'm running a W variant with XAC CSC on Bell. So the firmware in settings cha ges to BMC, but the updates still directly from Samaung because it's BMC on XAC firmware. It's kind of confusing but basically you only want two firmwares. Either U1 XAA for US, or W XAC for Canada. You also need to use Patched Odin to flash it because it changes the default model firmware and official Odin will fail to flash EDIT: The difference between W and U1 is that W does not use mmWave 5G, only Sub6 cause Canada doesn't have mmWave. And Bixby is metric. So Bixby will read weather in Celsius, Bixby alarm reads in Celsius, and Samsung Pay can recognize Canadian Debit Visa's. U1 has mmWave, and Bixby is Imperial. Canadian credit cards still work on Samaung Pay with U1 but not Canadian Debit Visa cards.
So I received a refurbished S21+, it is unlocked and all but it has AT&T bloatware and I can't update to oneui 5.0... I live in italy but this phone comes from Germany and apparently has a US AT&T firmware (SM-G996U). I wanted to flash to SM_G996B with ITV, which is the italian version with android 12 and oneui 4.1.1 is it safe to do so and then get the android 13 update the standard way? Could I straight up get android 13 and oneui 5 flashing the most recent rom or is it even worse?
The other solution I thought about is that I could just get the U1 XAA, but i have U for now and I don't quite understand if it's completely risk free or not
hi Ben, I was able to do the flash and everything works fine however i did noticed that before the flash i was able to see 5G as far as the network connected to on the top right corner but now after the flash it says LTE+. is the "technecally" the same of is there a setting that i need to change to get back on 5G other than flashing back to stock T-mobile rom?
LTE+ is Long Term Evoluyion Advanced, not 5G. So 5G must be turned off in settings, or, you did a dirty flash and it's a bug. LTE+ and 5G's main difference is that 5G is a bought 10x faster. So if it doesn't say 5G, you're not getting 5G. Cause LTE+ is true 4G, and LTE is 3G on steroids (about half as fast as LTE+)
This doesn't work anymore. Samsung changed it as of OneUI 4.1, as soon as you put a SIM card in, it forcing you to reboot so it can switch the CSC. Every phone is now every phone. They are all the same within region.
@@frozennorthproductions Are you saying there is no need to cross flash again that once we insert sim card it will change to region CSC or you mean once we flash U1 on U the problem of 4G+ instead of 5G is now resolved on 4.1?

Hi, I already have U1 in my phone but I have TMB CSC , if i flash XAA my CSC will change to XAA or remain to TMB? I will win something? Or tmb its fine whit csc tmb Thanks
As of OneUI 4.1, the CSC doesn't matter anymore. They are all the same now. If you put an AT&T SIM in, it will auto switch to U1 ATT. If you put T-Mobile in it, it will reboot to TMB. There's no way around this other than running W XAC in the US, or U1 XAA in Canada cause those can't switch CSC to the opposite country SIM cards.
I was hoping maybe you can help me a bit. So I'm about to buy an s21 ultra and I'm located in China. My main problem is Chinese versions of Android phones don't have Google frameworks. So I was wondering which firmware version I should go with so my phone still works here but I have all the Google apps. I'm super nervous about setting this all up and even buying it cause I don't want to brick it. Any advice?
You would have to figure out what firmware will share the same radio bands that are used for your device. I don't know much about the exynos devices because we don't have them in North America. But if you look up other Exynos devices, compare radio bands, and find an alternative firmware with matching bands so you still get cell signal and gApps then you should be good to go.
Great video! If you are in the US make sure to use XAA not SJR. Many thanks from your neighbors to the south!
Without explanation?
SJR is the old unlocked for Canada on W, XAA is unlocked for US using U1, thats why they said to use XAA and not SJR because SJR doesnt exist for U1, only W. But now Canada now uses XAC for W.
So, TL;DR, use U1 XAA for US, or W XAC for Canada.
@@frozennorthproductions You can also flash U1 on the W model 🙂
I'm actually running U1 XAA on my W S21u because Canada gets super slow updates. Only issue is that Canadian 5G doesn't work on U1, Bixby alarm only reads Fahrenheit, no way to change it in any settings to Celsius, and Samsung Pay requires a Zipcode but we use Postal Codes in the frozen north.
There's a workaround for that last one but it still has its limitations using U1 in Canada so W XAC is preferred for the majority as you lose 5G and the metric system with Bixby lol
hey i know this is old but which version should i use for a g966u s21 plus, tried usc and it got the tmobile

@Nobodynoidea hi guys I have also the same phone unlocked from verizon u model .. can u explain why choosing u1 instead of u firmware ?
Can't be soft-bricked if you flash HOME_CSC but in the most cases you have to hard reset it so it's the same. When cross-flashing must be wiped (backup first with SmartSwitch). Great video 👍
Thanks a bunch mate, worked like a charm.
I was thinking what computer is that when it is not responding and you listed out the specs. I chuckled 😂
Helpful vid, man. Thanks.
I flashed unlocked firmware with tmobile csc on my S21 Ultra and it still boots up with Vzw/Vzw/Vzw, it refuses to let me off of Verizon carrier settings, other carrier sims work in the phone and get service but I can't get their settings so I don't get the proper frequency bands for those networks
Do I need to flash XAA csc?

Hey nice video. After doing this will the new updates will come OTA? or you have to flash new firmware every month
OTA will work fine on W and U1. As long as you don't use a different carrier CSC. Gotta make sure it's W XAC or U1 XAA
Hi Ben, What firmware should I select for SC-52B Model?
tysm for the turtorial it helped me so much but i just wanted to ask will you get updates after doing this thing, I hope yes
Once you flash U1 XAA or W XAC, the OTA updates come from Samsung instead of the carrier. That's the only difference now.
Great video with explanation! Thank you!

I have US version SM-G998U (VZW) and flashed the SM-G998U1 (XAA) firmware. It says successful. It takes about 5 minutes, then gets in a reboot loop. I was able to delete data and it rebooted back to VZW ;( Help???
Are you using patched odin or regular one? You gotta use the patched one to convert from U to U1
I definitely want to do this. When you mention to backup phone in the beginning, are you referring to the user data, or is there a way to back up the OS that is not covered in this video?
Plus the Fija link does not work?
Hello my AT&T s22 ultra runing on XAA it already unlocked don't get updates last update on August

@@frozennorthproductions I'd appreciate your advice. I followed the guide exactly and used the latest 7/1/2023 U1 XAA firmware for my SM-S908U S22 Ultra. I don't understand what I did wrong. I thought my phone should be all XAA now. I used the right firmware and patched Odin. I didn't flash with a SIM card in.

The software version changed from ..._VZW/VZW/VZW (One UI 3.1) to VZW/VZW,VZW/VZW (One UI 4.1). But the good things are 1) bloat wares are gone; 2) U did get changed to U1; 3) phone still works. Since the CSC didn't really got changed, could the bloat wares come back the next time it updates through OTA? thanks
BTW, I did used patched Odin (Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD) to flash.

I was wandering if that new firmware would have native call recording enabled. I hear only Exynos devices can only record after their csc is switched?
I didn't even know this was a feature, I don't have anything like this one mine (SM-G998W running XAA U1)
@@frozennorthproductions what does this firmware means other than less built in apps from the carrier? things like, Wi-Fi Calling, VLTE or any region specific advantages over other FW like PMB or BMC?
It's just the native version Samaung released before carrier's made all their own changes. So if a Carrier disables wifi calling or tethering then this firmware will enable it

Can I ask your opinion on recovering data. My phone was factory reset a week ago and my last backup was 1 year ago. Will rooting my phone allow a software such as disk digger or fonepaw to find all my deleted files ?
My model is SM-G998B/DS and it keeps dropping WIFI signal 😤 i reset my phone and the router too but still the same. Plz any solutions?
However, the bad news is it still does not detect my Canadian SIM Koodo and I am still seeing TMB in the line under software version description in the phone settings.
@@frozennorthproductions I had already flashed it to G991U1 XAA which removed the branding. But I failed to reflash it to G991 variant although I tried different versions of Odo. It gives me a Fail error.
You gotta used PatcheD Odin to bypass the region lock for the SHA256 error.

@@alantsai3453 yes pretty easy
@@velelamja Thank you. So I guess flashing latest U1 firmware using Odin directly?
@@alantsai3453 correct

Are you using the standard Odin or Patched Odin? You MUST use patched Odin when converting between device variants. Regular Odin is only for updates of the identical device and nothing else.
If I have an international version, can you do this to install the Canadian firmware version? I have an A52 model # SM-A52F/DS and want to change it to Canadian firmware to be able to use region specific apps like Samsung Pay here and get rid of some of the bloatware for that country.
As long as the hardware is the same, then yes. They need to both be Snapdragon, or both Exynos. You can not switch between them if the SoC doesn't match. You also need to use patched Odin when switching between regions
@@frozennorthproductions OK, well it seems the Indian version I have and the Canadian are both using Snapdragon. But when I put in my model number with either the SJR CSC or XAC, it says it can't find firmware when using Frija

Thank you for your reply. I have one more question hope you can help.
The official version probably got hauled because of One UI 5.0 Beta
this is a great video but i have a few questions:
1. can i use the same method to install vanilla android from google instead of Samsung?

I've bought korean S21 Ultra 5G G998N that has LUC CSC for U+ and I'm currently on OneUi 4.1 A12 .. is that possible to use the same steps with the debranded firmware with KOO CSC and get this phone pure ?

Nothing is there for me, nothing comes up when I search settings for esim, e-sim or e sim. So it's not there.
I have a Chinese model; SM-G9980 with dual sim, can I change its firmware to a Samsung official unlocked firmware?
Same here. I've got SM-G9980. Iam planning to flash SM-G998B firmware. Iam not sure that its a good idea or not
Hello. I have SM-G998N firmware and I want to change it to SM-G998B . Is it possible??? I hope you can help me. Thank you need your answer 😔
Were you able to do this?
You also need to use Patched Odin to flash it because it changes the default model firmware and official Odin will fail to flash
EDIT:
The difference between W and U1 is that W does not use mmWave 5G, only Sub6 cause Canada doesn't have mmWave.
Bro I have s22 ultra SM 908U . I want to change its firmware to SM 908U1 please make an video on it bro
The other solution I thought about is that I could just get the U1 XAA, but i have U for now and I don't quite understand if it's completely risk free or not
I have a 998U on T mobile, UICC unlocked, please advise if I flash the 998U1 XAA on it, will it remain UICC unlocked?
Yes, UICC unlock is paired to the drive, firmware changes are fine, it's essentially just a software update.
hi Ben, I was able to do the flash and everything works fine however i did noticed that before the flash i was able to see 5G as far as the network connected to on the top right corner but now after the flash it says LTE+. is the "technecally" the same of is there a setting that i need to change to get back on 5G other than flashing back to stock T-mobile rom?
LTE+ is Long Term Evoluyion Advanced, not 5G. So 5G must be turned off in settings, or, you did a dirty flash and it's a bug. LTE+ and 5G's main difference is that 5G is a bought 10x faster. So if it doesn't say 5G, you're not getting 5G. Cause LTE+ is true 4G, and LTE is 3G on steroids (about half as fast as LTE+)
Did you figure this out? I flashed the XAA on my at&t s21Ultra but it doesn't go to XAA for me...I'm getting ATT/ATT/ATT as well as LTE+ like you said
@@B1Gxyz The same thing happened to me just now when cleaning a Verizon ROM.
I have question if i have s 20 + 5g (exynos version) and i want to have xeo csc (unblocket for my country). Do i just dowload xeo or what? I heared of somepeople got back their csc after succesfull flash . What about knox and warrianty?
You can flash any CSC, these are official files so they don't trip Knox
@@frozennorthproductions this is possible to csc return after that (some people on internet write they got their defult csc back after sucesfful flash) and if so what to do next ?
I have an S21+ From Verizon that I want to flash the unlocked firmware on. What CSC code should I use for the unlocked firmware in the USA?
U1 XAA is unlocked for any US carrier device.
@@frozennorthproductions Frija says unable to find firmware. Odd.
My model number is SM-G996U
@@frozennorthproductions Should I be typing my model number as SM-G996U1? then XAA
I think XAA is only for U1, and U phones specify the carrier CSC and preloaded carrier apps. So, yes, SM-G996U1 XAA
Hi, I already have U1 in my phone but I have TMB CSC , if i flash XAA my CSC will change to XAA or remain to TMB? I will win something? Or tmb its fine whit csc tmb
Thanks
As of OneUI 4.1, the CSC doesn't matter anymore. They are all the same now. If you put an AT&T SIM in, it will auto switch to U1 ATT. If you put T-Mobile in it, it will reboot to TMB. There's no way around this other than running W XAC in the US, or U1 XAA in Canada cause those can't switch CSC to the opposite country SIM cards.
@@frozennorthproductions so with 5.1 can we still do this? my phone still has the tmobile boot animation but is sim unlocked.
China versions still have the snapdragon but I guess I'll try to figure out which bands are used.
Brother can we use 5G any country like i am from india and i have a s20 plus 5G but this is not working 5g here 😓
I have the note 20 ultra from Canada, unlocked. Im in the US can i flash u1 firmware on it? Im not getting 5g on it
How to use 5g connetion in snapdragon phone? Now, i am in asia only support 4g.
