liv is dope dude he's a fkn beast, I have no words for him, I knew him before he joined Chainsmokers, and have alot of covers on my phone instead of the original song
I respect the fuck out of their lead singer. I imagine him sweating it out in the green room before every performance knowing he has to find yet another way to convince the audience he doesn't suck at singing. And still walks on stage.
stateradio115 that's called concert.. I think pretty much all artist have done that.. just there's a difference.. THEY HAVE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS. THEYRE DIFFERENT/SPECIAL/ AND DONT SOUND LIKE EVERY OTHER FKN GROUP.
idk why are people hating on this performance and their new album. I did like their old songs with the huge drops, but it just seems like they want to try new things .I personally love their new album because its songs that I ALSO like listening to. TLDR: I do like their old songs with big drops, but their new songs are nice also.
Watching this and hearing Drew's vocals then compared to NOW, is insane. He's gotten SO much better since this performance and he's definitely getting more confident with his vocals. What people don't seem to get about this performance is that Drew was still adjusting to being the sudden singer of the band. They used to do nothing but produce music while others sang. Suddenly he got thrown into the mix and they ended up having to hire a vocal coach to help him practice his vocals as much and fast as possible. Y'all don't gotta tell Drew that he sucked in this performance, because he KNEW he did. But yet, he still tried. He gave it his best shot despite his vocal limits. The next day after this his vocal chords were shot. He was NOT used to this kind of performance where he wasn't keeping his octave low like in Closer. No he had to BELT OUT. Nobody is a professional singer overnight, and Drew is still working at improving to this day. Yeah Matt (the drummer) was the only good thing about this performance. He's had years and years of experience and practice to be this good though, still getting better as well. There is ALWAYS room for improvement and Drew, Alex, and Matt are perfect examples of that. They could've given up a long time ago, but yet here they are. Back and releasing their newest album next month. Also, those saying Drew's family was connected with a record label, no they aren't. Drew was a regular kid who went to college and practiced day and night, working on music always and just making mixes on his laptop. He was an intern and got recognized by the manager of the old TCS (the other guy left) and was introduced to Alex (the guy on the keyboards). Drew was picked from his talent and potential. Just like Matt was picked from his talent on a drum cover he did for one of their songs on RUclips. These guys are super hardworking guys, Alex and Drew with their production, Drew on his vocals, and Matt with his drumming, bass playing, and being The Chainsmokers's musical director. If y'all saw just how much work these guys put into EVERYTHING they do, maybe. Just MAYBE, you'll wake up. Compared to other fresh faced DJ bands around the time this performance was, these guys were considered beyond talented. Today, in 2022, they ARE very talented. Drew has really grown vocal wise.
Those guys are talented producer's, who had the balls to push it through and make one of 'em a frontman. That's fucking awesome, in my book. Have some fucking respect
CHAINSMOKERS are so 100% authentic down to earth people XX they take risks in there music which makes me RESPECT THEM MORE ❤️🤗 DREW AND ALEX ARE GREAT TOGTHER .. singing is very original to a EDM GROUP !! YASSSSSS
Has anyone in the comments even listened to their album? This is the only "rock" song on their album. I'm not a huge fan of this song, but lets give them props. If they were djing "Roses" and "Don't Let Me Down", there would be no point of them being there.
I loved seeing them live! I am so proud of Matt though, I've been watching his covers for so long now, and I'm so proud that he's getting opportunities like this to tour with the chainsmokers!
Im no chainsmoker fan.. so i wont judge on the music style.... The performance wasnt bad at all... abbout 80% of the Famous artists nowadays cant perform live anyways
Give Drew a break guys. He used to not sing at all. He has talent. Saying he sucks live when he has more talent than any of you that are commenting shit. This album he just began actually singing on more songs so chill with all the hate. Drew you are great. Don't listen to the people who send you hate.
Yeah for once, I'm pretty sure that I'm more talented. Usually that generic defense of "he has way more talent" holds water, but not in this case. These guys are hacks, they produce bland pop-drivel for the masses with little taste. No thanks.
Jesus lads calm down in the comments... does no one remember their performance on American Idol? They've developed and evolved so much as a group since then, changing their sound and trying to share their ability as MUSICIANS. They've shared and helped out so many unknown artists to get themselves out there. They could of so easily of came out and clicked play on their DJ decks and throw their hands in the air, or even worse come out and try to lip sync like so many ''artists'' do. So yeah just calm down with all the hate. Ohh and people saying they sound "generic" or "every song sounds the same" get a grip of yourself they're developing their sound as I said and every artist does that it's how you grow as an artist to keep building on what you know.
very band/artist does. Have you heard Selena Gomez live?? how the hell are 80 percent of singers even singers? It's because they sell the culture of music, not music itself- unless ur Adele.
All of the salty ass people in these comments jealous because of the well deserved success Alex and Drew have gotten over the past year is just comical. Btw, they're 2 DJ's, not a band LMAO. Just because they know how to make music and use different instruments to their advantage for each song doesn't mean they're a band. If you're gonna go out of your way to be salty at least get your facts straight lol.
As someone who was a big fan of the Chainsmokers long before they broke the mainstream, I'm really disappointed with their direction. They're DJs but Andrew is clearly trying to carve more for himself except...he's not a singer and this isn't a band. Closer was a pretty weak instrumental as is but it would have been a lot better had they gotten a stronger singer. And it's not just the singing, it's the direction of their sound, it's becoming more hollow and tame. They totally deserved to get where they are now but at the same time we have to admit they're completely either selling out or their new direction is weird. But hey, if the masses will keep feeding them, good for them. Even if it's no longer my taste, still good to see guys you liked making a good living off what they do.
not really sure about the hate. this is a band and they are playing together which is a lot better than most of the solo singers out there now who can't even play an instrument. I will admit their music isn't for me and doesn't have a lot of energy but they are doing a lot more musically than a lot of the people complaining. show us your band's album and we'll compare.
I feel like everyone is being overly negative, at least with the singer. That was one of his better performances unless it's lip synced 😂 But the only real thing I see that needs work for them is to be more lively (Other than the drummer he was giving it his all 🤘)
Has Alex got 2 Alesis sample pad pro's back there (that he's hitting)? Anyone know? Btw, Drew even admits he hasn't got the greatest voice but in fairness, he sang quite well in this one. Also, what is Alex doing on the keys? When he plays them, I can't hear anything in the video. Is he miming or actually playing a synth?
I really like his voice. Just because he doesn't show off melismaas or hit crazy high notes doesn't mean he's not a good singer. He has good pitch; he just needs to build his power.
i have a band that is similar in set up, and yes, we do play the synths. they are phenomenal song writers and musicians. seeing it happen live is hard, because the only way you can see their musicality is watching them create the songs. i think they're extremely talented.
His singing was okay, a lot better than I could have done, but I found myself cringing every time he did that thing with his tongue. Is it like a nervous tick or something?
And this...is why DJs don't sing. He is not bad for a karaoke night, but come on. His partner tapping on the drum pad was embarrassing. This being said...they do well at producing. Stick to what you're good at...that's why I just comment on RUclips and make no music.
ppl are hating but I don't get it. Chainsmokers could have been a one hit wonder but they are obviously pushing themselves into new territory and I respect that.
You know, I saw who was performing and I straight got hyped to see matt (the drummer) do his thing... and he looks way over, i guess talented for the song. A bit too good for the chainsmokers but hey, ma man was on SNL and thats awesome that they gave him the opportunity to be there
I'm less annoyed by his voice, and more annoyed by his really really bad stage presence. Like, if these guys showed up at a small bar in a college town I'd be like "sure, makes sense." These guys are big enough to play on SNL so why are they still performing like inexperienced 20 year olds??
You know what's gonna happen with The Chainsmokers? They will probably stop performing like a band live, they were just doing it for promo of their first album. This is not working. But they are DJ's and they can continue raving everywhere else.
The one singing should immediately fire whichever publicist or manager told him he could be a pop star. They're lying to you, dude. Consider hanging it up now and returning back to work behind the scenes to avoid any further embarrassment.
-.- if this dude can be famous, what is stopping all the talented people on youtube? Who is his daddy? He must have connections. He should stick to just writing catchy shitty pop songs about his tool of a life.
idk who that drummer is but he is dope. crazy skills
Matt McGuire. he's a beast check out his RUclips page
liv is dope yes Matt McGuire is an amazing drummer! Defiantly check him out! That's the only reason I'm watching this!
Only reason I watched this video
He's a fuking monster. Matt Mcguire, search his channel.
liv is dope dude he's a fkn beast, I have no words for him, I knew him before he joined Chainsmokers, and have alot of covers on my phone instead of the original song

stateradio115 that's called concert.. I think pretty much all artist have done that.. just there's a difference.. THEY HAVE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS. THEYRE DIFFERENT/SPECIAL/ AND DONT SOUND LIKE EVERY OTHER FKN GROUP.
stateradio115 ya there influence is if you sin the same thing over and over again you can come up with a hit. Studied for example Closer
stateradio115 drew and Alex started as a dj duo and then all the sudden drew just started to sing on their tracks
stateradio115 i love the chainsmokers, but im sorry alex cant sing
Andrew is the one who's singing, Alex is the other dude on the right
idk why are people hating on this performance and their new album. I did like their old songs with the huge drops, but it just seems like they want to try new things .I personally love their new album because its songs that I ALSO like listening to.
TLDR: I do like their old songs with big drops, but their new songs are nice also.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who likes these types of bands... chainsmokers, TOP, and Imagine dragons...
Message from The future.......Add the band Half Alive to that lineup
Drummer killed it! Matt Mcguire is crazy good.
Watching this and hearing Drew's vocals then compared to NOW, is insane. He's gotten SO much better since this performance and he's definitely getting more confident with his vocals.

ayy look it's Matt Maguire. I forgot he said he'd be working with the Chainsmokers.
CHAINSMOKERS are so 100% authentic down to earth people XX they take risks in there music which makes me RESPECT THEM MORE ❤️🤗 DREW AND ALEX ARE GREAT TOGTHER .. singing is very original to a EDM GROUP !! YASSSSSS
Am i the only one who watched this for the purpose of seeing matt mcguire?😂
Shredd Master nah bro! Me too!! Matt fucking McGuire is too beast for this band
Fuck u why would u do that
i don't really like the music but jesus his singing is not that bad
Drew Nailed It ! 😍😘😊
Yeah its not that bad
This is the parental version everyone lol
This guy sings with the enthusiasm and passion that a seahorse swims with.
He leans over near the drummer who has a shirt that says "Lovers". There's a message there somewhere I just can't figure it out!
mysterychuck if you are saying the drummer is gay lol he isn't
mysterychuck that drummer is actually the other member of the chainsmokers...
I love the chainsmokers but I watched it mostly for Matt McGuire he's an amazing drummer
Has anyone in the comments even listened to their album? This is the only "rock" song on their album. I'm not a huge fan of this song, but lets give them props. If they were djing "Roses" and "Don't Let Me Down", there would be no point of them being there.
Stop giving hate to my mans smh ☹️just leave if you don't like the music or performance. Or them in general
i knew Andrew Garfield didn't many options after Amazing Spider-man 2 bombed but i had no idea he resorted to being a lead singer
I loved seeing them live! I am so proud of Matt though, I've been watching his covers for so long now, and I'm so proud that he's getting opportunities like this to tour with the chainsmokers!
is it me or did he get better at his singing ?
remember people......Drew didn't sing in their older stuff, they just produced.
Im no chainsmoker fan.. so i wont judge on the music style.... The performance wasnt bad at all... abbout 80% of the Famous artists nowadays cant perform live anyways
anyone else though drew sounded a million times better in this song than paris?
From The Amity Affliction to The Chainsmokers, I'm so fucking happy to see Matt on SNL yet again on tour! He's full of talent, such an influence.
The drummer is fire. #wow
OH SHIT!!! I never thought I'd see matt mcguire on SNL
Give Drew a break guys. He used to not sing at all. He has talent. Saying he sucks live when he has more talent than any of you that are commenting shit. This album he just began actually singing on more songs so chill with all the hate. Drew you are great. Don't listen to the people who send you hate.
Giving him a break would be putting this shite on a huge television program so he could bleat like a goat in fancy skinny jeans.
I'm more talented than this guy, I can sing happy birthday only slightly flatly so I'm already doing better than this twit. Think about that. :P
Michaela Bennett he's not talented you' just have bad taste.
Yeah for once, I'm pretty sure that I'm more talented. Usually that generic defense of "he has way more talent" holds water, but not in this case. These guys are hacks, they produce bland pop-drivel for the masses with little taste. No thanks.
I don't have to be a vocalist to know that his singing sucks. I don't need a tuner to know that he has no pitch either.
Hahaha the way louis introduces them he's like disappointed
Well that was an awkward ending.
2:35 would laugh if he fell 😂
Jesus lads calm down in the comments... does no one remember their performance on American Idol? You guys fucking killed. I love this song and nobody's gonna convince me otherwise.
Great song and very underrated.
Andrew is so freaking HOT!!!
They sound so much better on the radio.
Because they can use their computers to project an aire of talent.Turn the power off and they can't even play a tambourine.
very band/artist does. Have you heard Selena Gomez live?? how the hell are 80 percent of singers even singers? It's because they sell the culture of music, not music itself- unless ur Adele.
Joe Cook You have a point there. But that's a shame with The Chainsmokers because "Closer" and "Don't Let Me Down" are such hot songs!
Chauntel Bland they're edm producers so......
not every band bro. I listen primarily to rock and metal
Iron Maiden aren't hiding behind computers for their talent
All of the salty ass people in these comments jealous because of the well deserved success Alex and Drew have gotten over the past year is just comical. Btw, they're 2 DJ's, not a band LMAO. That Guy Bert if they're two DJs why is one singing? that doesn't justify not being good
That Guy Bert amen
iPhoneHelper1999 Exactly
+iPhoneHelper 1999 one of them is singing because of the success with "Closer" where (iirc) he also sang in
You're fake news
Andrew is getting a little better at singing live.
If this is getting "a little better" I can't imagine how terrible things were before.
Oh it was indeed terrible
look up the first time he preformed closer live
"getting a little better"? What is this, a garage rehearsal?
Dalyan D nah snl
I am actually proud of them for not lip syncing great job
1,4K Dislike WTF ??? just WHY??!! what'es wrong?
why so much hate??
They should go back to featuring artists
Matt is perfect with them. Hes so fucking awesome!
Pretty sure the drums might be the only live thing in this performance. lol.
FINALLY! Someone nails the obvious!
right....the rest is just plain shitty as fuck...stoopid fuckin song my god
Kasey Bryant his vocals were live
LAUGHED A LOT, TY APKWKDND
His voice has improved since that performance of Closer at the VMAs.
I'm here for Matt McGuire
As someone who was a big fan of the Chainsmokers long before they broke the mainstream, I'm really disappointed with their direction. jump oricakle True.
jump oricakle their not a band really, their two DJ's. the drummer is dope but he isnt with them
You clearly know nothing about music.
They're not even a band, they're DJ's attempting to sing... If you're going to attempt to defend something, at least know what you're defending...
Santiago Martínez Seriously? Nothing? I mean he might know how to play an instrument better than you
the tailspin of the music industry just keeps on goin
02:30 when your friend is downstairs but you just caught a Charmander
WOW THIS IS TALENT OMG
im joking obviously
Ha ha ha ha
you know you fucked up when only Matt Mcguire is the center of attention.
I find the climax before the last chorus to be awkward...he's just like "ooh"
sorry but i've never been so bored. only made it to halfway through the song. yikes.
I feel like everyone is being overly negative, at least with the singer. That was one of his better performances unless it's lip synced 😂 But the only real thing I see that needs work for them is to be more lively (Other than the drummer he was giving it his all 🤘)
I thought this was a sketch about the chainsmokers breaking up every night lol
Matt McGuire is very talented
Almorov BloboFish bruh :P
This performance would be so much better if they took away the signer and put Matt (the drummer) in front
YappaR thanks for the reply. yes you're right, I see now.
I really like his voice. Just because he doesn't show off melismaas or hit crazy high notes doesn't mean he's not a good singer. He has good pitch; he just needs to build his power.
pretty sure he's playing the synths, else you wouldn't hear them in the song...
i have a band that is similar in set up, and yes, we do play the synths. they are phenomenal song writers and musicians. seeing it happen live is hard, because the only way you can see their musicality is watching them create the songs. i think they're extremely talented.
He's really cute, sings good enough live, and also looks like an anorexic shane dawson and Im here for it.
LOL
These guys are just getting started breaking out as superstars! I am so proud of them. Wow!
Andrew is good.....
His singing was okay, a lot better than I could have done, but I found myself cringing every time he did that thing with his tongue. Is it like a nervous tick or something?
This is pretty awful no lie, studio sounds a lot better
Drew is not that bad...
And this...is why DJs don't sing. He is not bad for a karaoke night, but come on. His partner tapping on the drum pad was embarrassing. This being said...they do well at producing. Stick to what you're good at...that's why I just comment on RUclips and make no music.
This is so wrong in so many ways
Yeses!!!! Matt McGuire on tv!!!!
ppl are hating but I don't get it. Chainsmokers could have been a one hit wonder but they are obviously pushing themselves into new territory and I respect that.
Stellar Shores you don't get what? It's awful.
This brings me some nostalgia, back to the time when I would hear a band once and never again.
who came for matt
yup
I love the chainsmokers 😍😍😍
SOMEONE KEEP THIS MAN AWAY FROM FUCKING MICROPHONES
He's sooo 🔥🔥🔥
chainsmoker song was amazing I love u chainmoker drew taggart
This was honestly my least favorite on the album after first listen but this preformance made me look at it again as a decent enough song
You know, I saw who was performing and I straight got hyped to see matt (the drummer) do his thing... and he looks way over, i guess talented for the song. A bit too good for the chainsmokers but hey, ma man was on SNL and thats awesome that they gave him the opportunity to be there
MTNDEW53 define talent? Try to produce a song and come back to me about talent.
Matt McGuire ftw
I don't mind his singing but let's keep it real their songs are way way better when they use a different singer
I'm less annoyed by his voice, and more annoyed by his really really bad stage presence. Like, if these guys showed up at a small bar in a college town I'd be like "sure, makes sense." These guys are big enough to play on SNL so why are they still performing like inexperienced 20 year olds??
Really amazing performance!!!!! love the new song 🙌🏼
I think they sound better singing this song on snl than on the radio
Am I the only one that thinks they're actually pretty great? All these negative comments I just can't understand.
Killed it Matt
He's better behind the deck tbh, but I can respect him trying something new
You know what's gonna happen with The Chainsmokers? They will probably stop performing like a band live, they were just doing it for promo of their first album. This is not working. But they are DJ's and they can continue raving everywhere else.
The one singing should immediately fire whichever publicist or manager told him he could be a pop star. They're lying to you, dude. Consider hanging it up now and returning back to work behind the scenes to avoid any further embarrassment.
Just... fuck. That was horrible.
Why does a DJ want to sing?
Le Dai I don't know, but it's uncommon. The only other producer that I know sings is Calvin Harris.
There music is catchy but there talent 😂😂
I think Andrew sing better this time! For all the hater Drew is a Dj not a singer And he is Making a great effort.
-.- if this dude can be famous, what is stopping all the talented people on youtube? Who is his daddy? He must have connections. He should stick to just writing catchy shitty pop songs about his tool of a life.
My boy Matt is killing it I'm proud of him he's a big inspiration
sounds like they listened to a band with actual artistic integrity but still had to pander to their pop music-loving fans.
oh my god Jason Sherwood designed that set. holy shit it's so pretty.
Matt McGuire :) im so glad for him . great person.
Make The Chainsmokers great again!!!
Wow... this is ... not good...
Now that Matt McGuire is apart of the band I would actually want to see them live!
Live singing was good
