    I would have loved to see you making a comparison also to XLN Audios Addictive Keys. I think it is the best piano VSTi out of the box in the market. Love the sounds and presets.

    I hear your comments on the NI stuff, and I can't believe you missed "The Giant" (Kontakt).
    Very useful review though (as usual).

      I have been stuck on Komplete 8 Ultimate and have not upgraded to K9U. I am looking forward to using The Giant when I upgrade. It seems like a great library.

    Could you add Pianoteq to your collection of comparisons?

  • @ericwtarr
    @ericwtarr  11 лет назад

    You are right. There really is no comparison. The point, though, is that some people might have ID8 and wonder if it is worth the money to buy Ivory. Depending on the music you are making, ID8 will be sufficient and the improvement of Ivory isn't worth it. On the other hand, I want to make sure that viewers can hear the dramatic difference in sound in case they want to upgrade to a better piece of software.

    I haven't upgraded to the new version of Reason. I haven't invested in the Rack Extension platform because I already have too many plug-ins. Sadly, I used to use Reason all the time using Rewire when it wasn't really a full, fledged DAW. Since Reason became its own DAW, I don't use it as much as I should...

    Great video, what do you think about the GRAND 3 by Steinberg?

    I wish I had Addictive Keys. It seems like a great piece of software. Unfortunately, I don't have all the software so I can only demonstrate what I have. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will have to save up my money for this one.

    What happened to Eastwest Quantum Leap Pianos - 400GB ????

      I have heard great things about the Easwest library. I only have a limited amount of money, so I can't buy everything. I would definitely like to add this library to my collection eventually.

    I love Reason, but it's really hard to find a refill with lifelike sounds. even when tweaking/adjusting the sound. I get really tired of adding the equalizer, compression, and reverb. this is better, because all of those settings are included in the vst.

      Thanks for checking out the video. I completely agree with you about the Reason Refills. There are so many good VIs available now for piano.

      Ivory is very cool but its file size is very big. True Pianos is a modeled VST and good option too for piano.

    The QL library sounds decent, but if you are looking for playability the programming sucks. And that's not being too harsh:mapping errors, latency in the samples themselves, intonation problems, terrible velocity rendering et. al. I own the library and completely regret having made the purchase. I'll probably be putting it up for sale on e-bay soon with the I-lok. The usefulness of the library is my opinion obviously because a number of people still stand by the library.

    • @ericwtarr
      @ericwtarr  11 лет назад +1

      That is good to know. I have been pretty happy with Ivory, so I haven't really felt like spending any more money. Anyway, do you have a favorite piano that you like to use?

      Eric Tarr
      Not including the QL library I just have one. I Use Sampletekk's Black Grand. While the quality of the sample set is OK-ish the playability is excellent seeing that it's a plain Kontakt library and completely editable. I've added my own scripts and altered the basic programming of the instrument fairly extensively.
      I'm currently looking for a new library though. That's why I bought the QL library. It's also why I've watched yours and other videos on youtube. I might take a chance with either the brand new Ravenscroft library by VI Labs or the Production Voices "Production Grand". They both sound VERY good to me.

      Eric Tarr with ivory, there is not too much more you could possibly need. I think its one of the best and most worth it investments i have ever made. The default sounds are excellent and nonetheless extensively customizable. What else could one ask for. :)

    I'm a guitarist and a terrible piano player. If I wanted a good virtual piano for beginners, would you suggest Easy Keys?

    • @ericwtarr
      @ericwtarr  7 лет назад

      EZ Keys is great, especially because it has a bunch of MIDI performances you can use instead of having to play it yourself

    @ Terence Kearns, I own NI`s 9 Ultimate which includes The Giant. I`m also a piano player and I use a real Steinway D everyday. I also own a late 80s Baldwin upright. I have several libraries besides the NI pianos. I also own the Reason Piano Refills. The Giant is a major disappointment and is not deserving of all the attention it gets. The Giant does not stand up at all on its own and in my opinion, sounds terrible in a mix. I wrote to NI about this. I know NI updated their pianos in ver. 10 but I have not tried them out myself yet. I prefer the Reason Refills over all of the NI pianos because when I play the Refills, it actually feels a lot closer to a real piano. To me, this is a major issue with most piano libraries. Feel is just as important as sound. Around 2 hours ago, FED EX delivered the new Garritan CFX library. I have not installed it yet but from everything I have heard and read online, it will most likely become my go to piano library. It sounds incredible online BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, users are saying how great it feels! This is huge. The last thing I`ll mention is that I put out a solo piano album around 4 years ago… it was mostly meditational music based on some original compositions that I improvised and some Christmas standards. I ended up recording the entire album with the Reason Refills so… Yes, I`m a huge fan of REASON and the piano Refills library in particular. What I`m getting at is: the NI piano libraries suck. No need to be politically correct here… and when you consider how much it all costs… well, its really unfortunate and a major ripoff. Anyway, I`m looking forward to installing the CFX library!
