Do you think an aeroplane would fly with these?
Great video! It was really neat to see your lift comparison. I think you should look into a buwizz 3.0. They are lighter and produce more power than the mould king. They are a bit pricey but I love mine! I think a plane or helicopter design has potential with the proper setup!
In Theorie yes
@@madeforappinstalls Yeah, I already built a glider with paper wings, it's a little bit cheat, but a big baseplate is quite heavy...
@@jareddeckard2703 I will try to get one! It's also a little bit cheat, but it might be the only way to get it airborne...
Try use coaxial proppeler

I know 😅

Try using a technic turntable to mount the rotor blades if you try to make anything airborne. You'd probably increase the stability of the blades as well as incorporate means to control the blades, leading to the basis of a functional flying craft
You mean I should install a turntable under the whole thing to achieve a better stability?
Yeah
Yes
@@LucasDynamics you can do that or you can find a way to attach the rotors directly to the turntable, using some gears to get power to the whole thing. May be tricky with the geometry of the turntables but the stability you'd get is probably crucial to actually getting an entire structure to fly
@@neetard7360 The Lego turntables have a fair bit of friction though.
Any progress in creating a flying lego machine yet? Are you trying to build a plane or a drone and what are the engineering challenges you need to solve in order to get this airborne? Definitely looking forward to the next video regarding this topic!
It's quite difficult...
Building a drone would be only possible using non original battery's or something like a Buwizz I think... I am currently trying to build a plane...
@@LucasDynamics Drones also require a flight controller with a gyro and accelerometer to be stable, another thing that would need tuning. Not impossible, just difficult.
*No minifigures were harmed in the making of this video*
Exactly🥲
0:45 1:05 1:27 1:30 1:53 2:19 and the rest almost broke the sound barrier
Awesome video! Nice work on the editing!
Thank you! Nice to hear from such a Lego legend!
just a suggestion to use stiffer structure for holding the axle. i guess you get some significant friction on the link above the gears, and also resonance due to the long free standing axle.
Yeah it's quite problematic...
i wish you tried a counter-rotating propellers setup too. good video regardless
How would that work???
That would be extremely difficult with Lego...😅
Try 5-bladed propeller/rotor like big helicopters use. It should be slightly quieter as well.
2 Weeks later . Almost 50k views 😍
Congratulations 🎊🎉
Yeah, thank you!
Any suggestions how I can improve my videos, thumbnails and titles? 😏
@@LucasDynamics I think you achieved what i couldn't achieve 😂 I'm the one who needs advice 😁
@@LucasDynamics I think you are good and it's working for RUclips algorithm. So stick with this format. Maybe I can share your videos and you share mine on our channels to reach a wider audience.
Ok, maybe in the long form videos, but your shorts are getting a lot of attention...
@@LucasDynamics yes 👍🏻
next test would be the pitch and prop design...or even consider the Toroidal Propeller.... just a thought,.. I build and fly quads.. latest was a 5" hyperlite called the Tooth Fairy.. does around 112mph and in FPV is a blast..!!
Warning ⚠️ is this might be 10,000 speed
Very cool video my friend ❤️, hope this will get millions of views 😍
Thanks, we'll see if the algorithm picks it up...

1:53 whoa! It’s a fan
Great experiments, I'm curious about the topic of the next experiment
Thanks, I am wondering how do you record your audio in your videos so clear... Is it the original sound recorded with a good microphone, or do you use stock audios?
I think combining both will make the video even better@@LucasDynamics
@@woaminibricks Ok👌, thanks!
Create a smaller tecnic shaft for the propeller mount to lower center of gravity with less vibration. It saves lots of energy
I suggest you build a Lego airplane and try to make it fly with those propellers 😊
@LucasDynamiics 😊
try adding 4 of those propellors and having 4 arms to hold the propellers like a drone
You mean with four motors, or a central one?
@@LucasDynamics i ment 4 motors but you could try 1. Maybe do both for a video? I'd watch it
@@Sparkfilm-yy8ye I have something similar planned...
@@LucasDynamics yay
@@drafffic Yeah, I will try both...
hey what battery hub and controller did you use in this vid
I love the "buhbuhbuhbuh" sound heli blades make
ive always tried to build somthing that flies from lego. I have spare propellers from my drone and have tried a couple times to use those but the lego motors just dont spin fast enough
Yeah, you need a buggy motor, they are way more powerful then all the others...
@@LucasDynamics Yeah i was using a buggy motor with buwizz at ludicrous + gear ratio
Ok than you need a gear ratio and some better blades...
The originals are very good and efficient, but are quite expensive.
@@LucasDynamics blades arent the issue, they are proper drone blades that work on my actual drone
The propellors need to be in proportion to the body, especially in length.
Nice! Well done!
Thank you!
I like the two blade one!
Yeah, it's cool👍
More old-school...
I think too fast speed resulted to stall at the end of blade, 2 main parameters effect to lift force are rpm and angle of attack. Anyway, love your experiment.
Cool video!
This was truly dangerous!
Yeah it was!

😎
I mean, take a look at the ATR 71 or the Q400-8
You need to check rpm when you add ratio gear
If you make it float and add a rudder, you'll have one super fast Lego hovercraft!

0:43 bro hit a high note💀💀🤯🤯🤯🙏🙏🙏
Lego constant-speed prop possible?
Weird fact: This is a Chinese buggy motor, cuz it has PF connector built-in, and original buggy motor has 2X2 stud 9v connection, perfect for NXT/EV3/BWizz X.0
Yeah, it's a mould king buggy motor with the power functions connector...
Btw try this with even faster BWizz motor
@@Nintendo3D5 I will definitely try it!
i love lego
Do a 12 blade design no ratio
Have you answered the question of the caption in the first second?
Yeah, basically...
Drat now I need to buy 3 propellers!
Sorry, they are kind of expensive...
Hi Im your New Subscriber
remember me as the guy who was here when u had 53.9k subz
Let me just go make a helicopter brb
😏
3:45 screw you! I WANT FREEDOM!!! *flies*
I have a question? What are the purposes of gear ratio?
Short Answer: It lets you spin the propeller faster
Longer Answer:
Much harder to show without a physical or even visual representation, but imagine two gears connected to each other, one with eight teeth and one with four teeth. Every time the gear with eight teeth is spun around 1/8 of a complete turn, the next tooth makes contact with the 4 tooth gear, and pushes it forward, moving it to the next tooth. Eventually, once the 8 tooth gear has turned 1/2 of a complete turn, the 4 tooth gear will be back to its first tooth. Every time you rotate the 8 tooth gear all the way around once, the 4 tooth gear rotates all the way around twice. With different numbers of teeth, the gears will turn at different speeds. A gear ratio refers to the ratio of teeth between the gears, in this example, the ratio is 1:2, two teeth on the eight tooth gear for every one tooth on the four tooth gear, meaning the four tooth gear will spin twice as fast as the eight tooth gear. So instead of connecting the motor directly to the propellers, you can connect the motor to a large gear, have it spin a smaller gear, then have that smaller gear spin the propellers much faster.
Aeroplane next, please!
I will try it!
But it's going to be difficult!
A drone motor maybe?@@LucasDynamics
@@picknikbasket Nah, it needs more torque...
@@LucasDynamics yeah true, good luck with it, I'm not sure Lego motors will be up to it but you're on to something. Keep trying!

The 6-blade one does win. It lifts 7 grams more, but the 0 grams is measured with the added weight of the propeller. So the number you thought you wanted to measure actually says this propeller can lift 22 grams more, but weighs 15 more.
Nah, I don't know what you exactly mean bro, but it isn't right...
It's very simple, by using the scale I ONLY measure the weight it could lift... But if I want to implement it into a drone, the weight of the propeller also counts because it isn't on the scale anymore...

When you add new pieces, you can not get accurate results between the first and second prototypes because the change in weight affecting the overall limit.
