John Denver is a national treasure. He is the only artist to have written two state anthems -- One for West Virginia ("Take Me Home, Country Roads) and one for Colorado ("Rocky Mountain High"). I'd love to see mother & daughter reaction to "Rocky Mountain High".

If you can find a live performance it really shows how much fun he has performing it. Great reaction and memories for you.
John Denver was so awesome. He has become an icon. RIP John. You might if you have not listened to Home Free's version it is so awesome. John would be proud.! I love your reactions!
Any halfway decent musician in the old days had to be good live to make decent money. Unless you happened to have family in the music label your cut of the single/ablum royalties is always going to be much smaller than the labels cut, whereas the label takes only a minimal cut of live ticket sales when they take anything at all.
Awesome reactions. I was born in 71 - Dec 29th , so this song is a little older then me ; but this is probably my all time favorite song by John Denver. John Denver was the first artist I saw in a live concert. Another artist that had a genuine voice was Randy Travis his stroke. Thanks for doing this reaction.
Sunshine On My Shoulders by John Denver is one of my favorite songs. I love this one also. The sound of his voice in the recording touches me more than his live version

I saw him live in the late 1970's. Having seen many concerts during this period, mostly rock, this was by far the most beautiful experience ever. The musicianship and vocals were the best I ever witnessed. 'Poems, Prayers, & Promises', 'Follow Me', and 'Rhymes and Reasons' are hidden gems.
This is REAL, GENUINE entertainment! No running or crawling around the stage, throwing one's clothes off in a striptease, with auto-tune, fireworks and smoke bombs going off! Home Free, the a capella vocal group, do a great cover of the song. They make it more of a yearning for home kind of song. They lose the bounce John Denver had, but somehow more appropriate to the feeling. I think John would have liked hearing their version.

I don't think that your grandpa was exaggerating about the poverty that he faced growing up. My mother's family, while not in West Virginia, faced similar struggles. She had six sisters and five brothers, and as one of the youngest she rarely received anything new. Shoes, clothes, toys, all patched/repaired to be passed down. She had to drop out of high school at age 14 to care for her father and younger sibs (3) as her father had a major stroke and her mother had to go to work to earn money to feed the family. She finally got her G.E.D. at age 42 and passed away last year at the young age of 79.

So poeticalisticalistic! I mean "Take me home, Ohio" is nowhere nearly so poeticalisticalistic. Speaking of luxury living, we used to get to walk 40 miles through acid-sleet, naked, on our hands, without gloves, just to get to school, seven days a week. Uphill both ways!! And this is North Carolina: Where people from West Virginia now live. BTW...y'all are so funny at the end there. And I was thinking the same thing, right from the gitgo. The child hath become the parent. Lemme guess. Sagittarius/Taurus?
"poeticalisticalistic" haha good one! Mom is Sagittarius and daughter is Cancer
@@generationgapreacts That's it! Had I thought a little harder, I might well have said Cancer. Mom is very Sagittarius.
DON MCLEAN VINCENT
Yes, a magnificent song!
Check out Aspen Glow!
I would like to suggest you listen to “Forever Young” with Rod Stewart. As a parent you’ll understand why!
Home Free do a fantastic cover of this song. They present a more plaintive quality. John sings in a more bouncy
Freddie Mercury and E Luciano Pavarotti song Nessun Dorma
Thank you for the like have a nice day
I don't think that your grandpa was exaggerating about the poverty that he faced growing up.
Home Free's cover of this John Denver classic is absolutely incredible. Hopefully you will react to it as well.
Please do a reaction of Geoff Castellucci's cover of Country Roads. You won't be disappointed.
