I remember as a kid we always had powdered milk on hand in case we ran out of real milk. It was common. Now people seem to turn up their nose at powdered milk. Good to have some of those dry staples in the pantry!

I actually have some of that powdered milk in a cupboard, but it's fat free. I can't remember what I use it for, but it's there. Thanks for the comment Mea. -Dennis

When I was a teenager I liked milk and sugar in my coffee. At work it was too hard to keep milk around, so I used that non-dairy creamer powder. It was OK. I’ve now embraced simplicity and I drink my coffee black with a little honey. In a pinch I can drink it black with nothing else. It seems I can adapt my tastes. Sometimes I think that adjustable expectations may be the key to happiness. :)

I went black for a while, trying to reduce fat in my diet. I did adapt and it was fine, for a while. Eventually I developed a craving for half and half again. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

I think you are supposed to add cold water and make half and half then add to coffee. What a great find. Whole cream powder. You could add cocoa and make your own hot chocolate mix.

As I heat the water for my coffee I've been adding a scant teaspoon to the half and half in the bottom of the cup and stirring to mix. It works well. No lumps. I like the idea of hot chocolate mix. I've got cocoa powder. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion. -Dennis

You can freeze your creamer in ice trays and it will keep for months. milk as well.

@Cindy H , I've done that however it does tend to look curdled. It tastes fine, but the look is off-putting. I'll use evaporated milk as a back-up.

I have home-made powdered milk and cream in storage! BTW, aerate your coffee after mixing the powdered creamer into it by pouring it back and forth from little spouted cups. It'll be frothy!

Interesting... had no idea you could get full fat dairy powdered like that.
Coincidently just started adding blackstrap molasses to my coffee, which I usually drink black, as a way to up my potassium and avoid muscle cramps.

The mixture works well, and it doesn't take much. A slightly rounded teaspoon is plenty. It should last a long time. Thanks for the comment Jake. -Dennis

I am still drinking my coffee this way. I have a cup in front of me now. I'm fully vaccinated; so I feel safe going to the store again. However, I'll keep some of this powder on hand for times when I run out of dairy half and half. Thanks for the question. -Dennis

I make mine and you definitely have to stir it a lot. I have Type 1 Diabetes sometimes I like Sweet Coffee Creamer I add Monk Fruit In The Raw it's low Glycemic and you only use half of what you would normally use of Sweetener.

Another interesting video, Denis. I was going to suggest mixing it with a little bit of hot coffee before adding it to the final product, but you beat me to it! I personally don't drink coffee with milk, but if I did I'd give this a go.
Stay safe and have a good week Denis.

You and I are thinking alike Brodie. Tomorrow morning I'll put a spoonful in the bottom of the cup and pour a little of the hot water into it, mix it into a paste, then start brewing the coffee. I might add an addendum to the video description if it works. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

I miss the red-handled tasting spoon. And.. I SHUDDER to think how much those powders cost. SHUDDER I TELLS YA!!!

    • @MyKitchenVlog
      @MyKitchenVlog  4 года назад

Doh! I totally forgot the "infamous red handled tasting spoon"! The powders weren't expensive - $15.52 and $13.74. A half gallon of half & half is $6. So, in the long run, the cost will be less. Thanks for the reminder about that spoon. -Dennis
