@@CarbonKnight9I still prefer the multiple separate onions. Building up not only your army, but your base as well, made you feel more powerful. Like you're taming this wild land and making it your own
Mario RPG was not grindy at all. As long as you killed most of the enemies in the area, you normally have enough EXP. The only grind, is if you want to reach LV30.. but you can easily beat the final Boss around LV20-21.
Yeah exactly. It was never a problem in the original game, definitely not going to be a problem now. If anything it's going to be too easy. I'm afraid of bulldozing through it
Yea Square Enix's late SNES offereings of Chrono Trigger, Live A Live and Super Mario RPG all stand out as some of the few RPGs that are short in length and required no grinding compared to their other releases. Most people would be surprised to know games like Chrono Trigger only take 20 hours including sidequests. Same goes for Super Mario RPG, great story focused games for people to jump into if new to the genre.
@@reidepperson8534 Not quite, but there are a few. But you only really need to fight all of them early on. Plus there are some pretty obvious modifications to the system shown in the trailer. I just replayed smrpg for the first time in a few years. I didn’t find it grindy at all. There are some difficulty spikes but the game is pretty forgiving overall
I think that the reason they revealed the Peach game and Luigi's Mansion is to tell people that they aren't just holding onto games for whatever comes out after Switch.
Reminder , the original gameboy had a 10 years long life span as the main hardware in it field, in a time with way more hardware progress, 89-99 is from the megadrive to the Dreamcast, 2017-2027 is PS4 pro to PS5 pro maybe? It seemed impossible for Nintendo to justify a new 2D Mario after _Super Mario Maker 2. Wonder_ looks like the perfect answer to that, in a sense that there’s no perceivable way players could recreate the game’s mechanics.
While it may have seemed impossible for 2D Mario to continue after Mario Maker, remember that Mario Maker needed an active player base to be great. I feel like it’s becoming more and more dead now, so going back to new base 2D Mario games is now possible for Nintendo.
A "crafted by professional designers" 2D Mario game will always be preferable to me than having to sort through mountains of community created crap to find good levels to play. Especially after considering that Super Mario Maker 2 had a $60 MSRP but was unusable without also paying $20 a year for Nintendo Online. Bleh.
You can't make all of SMB3 or world in MM2 either. It has nothing to do with un replicatable mechanics. The only thing that can't be easily added to mario maker is the wonder flower & what was in that trailer was not nearly diverse or unpredictable enough that it couldn't be simplified for a player to use in mario maker
For the comment with the Mario wonder characters being on a 45 degree angle, it’s weird “logically” but it’s actually a standard animation trick to keep characters at what is called 3/4 front as often as possible because profile and straight on views are way less appealing. Totally get that it seems weird if you think about it hard, but honestly it means you see the character so much more and it really pushes depth and 3D rather than flatness.
Yeah. Switch version looks like it's barely a step above having no lighting at all. Especially with Pikachu's hat, it actually just does not cast any kind of shadow onto his head whatsoever, whereas it visibly did in the 3DS version.
I hope they bring back TONS of secrets for wonder like in super Mario world, I feel like that’s half the fun of the game and with the dream stuff there’s so much potential for weird quirky fun secrets. Also I hope the speed running scene is moderately big for this game
I don't think it will. The only reason I say that is because Mario Wonder has the same engine and the same stubborn camera as the NSMB series (and most modern 2d games). Unlike SM3 or SMW, the camera in Wonder does not seem to follow Mario upward. SMB3/World's camera was also snapped to ground-level. But it this was context-sensitive. And as we all know, it scrolled upward with Mario when he neared the top of the screen. It also scrolled upward with Mario's jumps when you were at full sprint, incentivizing upward momentum without sacrificing the steady camera when the player was moving steadily. But I digress. Point is, Wonderful seems to be sticking with the "modern 2D Mario"s camera and level design. I assume it's to keep everything hyperfocused and dense. They just don't want the focus anywhere else but on the finely tuned gimmick of each stage, which is arguably the best way to design a pure platforming experience, but I don't think Mario fans necessarily want *a pure platforming experience.* That's what Meatboy, Celest, and N++ is for _(that's not a diss, I absolutely love Celest and N++)_ It's also what the original Super Mario Bros was for. But there's a reason SMB3/World are still hailed as the best Mario games, and it's probably because they wedged plenty (but not an overwhelming amount) of diversions into almost every level. There was always some exploration to be had that might yield an alternative path or a rare powerup. Even the overworld was full of quirks and secrets.
I think one of the best parts about SMB3's secrets is that they are completely optional and that the game doesn't track them. Modern 2D Mario has collectables, which add some depth to levels, but on the same end I feel like it takes the wind out of secrets because they're not "secret" anymore. There's guides to find all secrets in modern Mario games and in the end, you'll have found them all if you go for 100% completion. But in SMB3 I recently found out a new secret and I wouldn't be surprised if there is still one or two that I do not know about (and trust me, I know a bloody lot about that game). Long story short, SMB3's secrets being inconsequential helps them truly remain secrets, whereas secrets in modern 2D Marios are not really secrets but rather side-objectives.
@@hassanyakhlef4305o he has a point. The physics and camera kinda looks like the physics and camera from the NSMB games. But there’s nothing wrong with that. They were already solid and not broken so don’t fix it
@@Ghost-ul8eu yeah during the direct for a second I thought it was the first game but was a bit disappointed its not bad to get dark moon it would just make more sense if it released in order
@Gloob7046 It seems like it's only getting a very light touch-up. It could easily be the case that Next Level have been working on a Metroid Prime type of remaster of the first game, and then Nintendo told them to just spruce up the second game as well while they're at it. Obviously a light visual upgrade doesn't take as much time as a full remake, so we're getting the Luigi's Mansion 2 first, and then maybe the Luigi's Mansion 1 remake will launch on the next console.
"Mario Wonder looks like a mobile game." Some people just want to watch the world burn. Also, I really just want to see the adventures of Arlo and Alternate Universe Arlo now. That's the mark of an incredible ad read.
I tought the same, its probably the "excelent" shit that pops up everytime you do anything, and that the trailer made it look like a runner for the first few seconds.
WarioWare Get it Together was already weird take on WarioWare, so I think it makes sense to have a safer, Smooth Moves-esque game too. I do wish it was Wario Land, but I'm still excited for more WarioWare. Also, maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm a sucker for minimalist UIs. They look so clean!
I'll be honest, I enjoyed the demo for Get it Together more than the actual full game. I probably have more play time in the full game because well beating the story takes a bit, but it's close ^^'. I'm super excited about move it though, this finally feels like a true Warioware game on switch to me
yeah, exactly. Get it together was an experimental take on the WW series. It changed a lot the approach to the games and the gimmick is not motion controls or touch controls, the gimmick is how YOU control. I think it was brilliant.
About the UI thing, I am not a Super Mario RPG expert, I don't know how much power Nintendo really had over that game, and I don't know how much power they have over this remake, but as a Square Enix fan, that feels like a Square Enix thing. Rereleasing a beloved game, but then completely messing up the UI is very in character for them.
It's a Nintendo thing too. It's the same thing for the Pikmin and especially the Mario Party series, just off of the top of my head. Previous games would always have fun and stylish UIs, whereas modern titles on the Switch are stuck with really plain, boring, standardized UI design. Although, from what I've seen of the original SMRPG UI, that was actually mostly pretty plain as well.
6:40 here's the thing about 2d Mario. The "next evolution" of that type of flagpole objective kinda game was 3d world. I get what they're saying in that it looks very similar to a new super Mario bros game but that next step was something we already got, and only appreciated in hindsight.
17:17 - Pretty sure they revealed the new Peach game and Luigi's Mansion 2 game as early as they did because they wanted to ride the Mario Movie hype. That movie will drive Switch sales especially if these characters are getting new games. With it being the second highest grossing animated film of all time (as of this post), striking while the iron is hot is a good strategy. If not for the movie's recent success at the box office, I would otherwise agree they should have waited till they had more to show.
Super Mario RPG was never grindy to begin with. You are always able to comfortably beat whatever bosses you came into contact with off of just what you've encountered thus far as long as you use the mechanics properly, such as timed blocks and hits, and proper spell usage. Hell, in the end the game even gives you super armor and a super weapon that makes it near impossible for one of your characters to die... so I don't know where that take is coming from.
I think there's something to be said for teaser trailers. Sure it would have been nice to see more of the Peach game, but I like knowing they're working on something and there'll be more info later. Kind of like how there was one splash screen for Metroid Prime 4 and everyone freaked out.
Idk, I think for the most part the original Mario RPG aged pretty well already, so an update would make quite accessible in my mind. Plus it's made by Square, so it has that going for it.
I think the reason they announced the peach game so early is because of the Mario movie and discussion around princess peach, they didn't want to announce the game in a few months and for people to think they were reacting to bad press.
The 3/4ths style can also be found in most smash bros ultimate characters, character that use weapons like a sword tend to not adhere to this detail for obvious reasons but it's one of those nintendo polish things. i think its cool and i love the designs in wonder
Not sure if it’s a hot take, but I feel like it could be. I’m glad Pokémon is only getting SV DLC and a spin off sequel this year; I’ve loved the last couple games, but they *DESPERATELY* needed more development time. If Pokémon decides to take it a little easier this year (kinda) I’ll be happy so we can get better games in the future
I'm not sure who are the ones setting these ridiculous yearly deadlines, but imagine the beautiful games we'd get if they just decided to give the games the time in the oven they deserve.
@@tkfarms7882It feels like they get 95% there--nice new species, good characters, good story (with an absolutely gut-wrenching ending)--but they forgot to play test
@@tkfarms7882given that Pokémon is (basically) the largest brand and that profits increase every time a new game is released, I don’t think the higher ups care enough to let the games bake fully if people keep buying into them.
The person irritated about the character design in Mario Wonder having a 2.5D perspective sounds like they would hate theatre. And I do not trust people who hate theatre. 😂
Spicy take on farm games: I love that we keep getting more farming and cozy games that build and innovate the genre. I love stardew valley but also love trying new styles and mechanics.
I totally agree that the UI for the Super Mario RPG remake looks exceedingly bland, and I would love for them to stylize it to match the game. Something akin to, as Arlo mentioned, the Mario and Luigi games did to match their own style. However I feel inclined to point out that the original game didn't exactly have the most stellar of UIs either - in fact I would say that the new UI , although the worse of the two, is still rather similar in terms of lack of appeal.
18:54 See that's what I thought too when I saw the Sonic Superstars announcement. In my eyes it just looked like every other retro style 2D sonic game, because I just can't pull apart all of the differences between Origins, Mania, or the several ports they released in the last few years. I just gotta accept that I'm not a Sonic fan anymore, just an Adventure fan.
I just caught that the hot take about Penny's Big Breakaway was made by SnapsCube... who is named Penny. The whole hot take is based on the fact that she shares her name with the protagonist; she even went crazy over it during her reaction.
The one thing i dislike about sonic side scrollers is that the camera is 100% fixed on the character. i truly believe that a 5%-10% lag and extending towards the moving direction would make the games feel a lot smoother
Super Mario RPG is the antithesis of a "grindy" rpg. You never need to grind. The game is immaculately paced. I believe some game developers (I don't remember precisely who) were tasked with playing it to see an example of how to make a quality RPG. It's going to sell like crazy.
Looking at those side-by-side comparisons for Detective Pikachu, I think the big difference is the lighting. The 3DS screenshots have better contrast and warmer colors to make it look more inviting.
There is no "grinding" in Mario RPG. Fighting just a small fraction of the total encounters keeps you at a reasonable level throughout the game. 14:34 - 16:14 Arlo's completely correct, the "3/4 view" is generally a much more appealing view than the side profile, and is standard for 2D media. If the characters were facing to the side, we wouldn't be getting so many dynamic poses and facial expressions.
Literally thought it was Super mario Run sequal until they explained otherwise. Between the scoring system that appeared after successful hits and the color pallet, the only difference besides power ups was the full control of the party
2:15 I think I get what he means. He’s saying that what they show is very reminiscent of cellphone games, like the crown not being a physical object or the world map only showing the level you’re standing on or how you can no longer boost or carry other players. Those are all changes that would be necessary if it was ported to mobile. Except they did it anyway.
5:38 i think the big reason why we are seeing so many farming sims right now is that after stardew valley a lot of indie studios went "people want more of this and there isn't that many of them. Let's make one". Flash forward to now, and all those indie studios are now ready to show off their games... Only to realize that everyone else had the same idea
I don’t understand the “WarioWare is on autopilot” take when there are a surprising number of people who don’t even consider “Get It Together” a mainline game because it apparently deviated too far from the series’ formula. Even if the game is good, stray too far and you’ll inevitably get people who say “it’s a good game, but not a good [series] game.” Deviate too much and suddenly you’re a gimmicky spinoff that no one asked for.
The Luigi's Mansion series is like i put 3 really good burgers in front of you One has to be the best and one has to be worst but that doesnt mean its bad
bro, smooth moves was amazing and only used a basic wii remote (for the most part) which didn't even have gyro controls (let alone any other fancy feature that the joycons have). im excited that we're finally getting a fuller realization of that game, using 2 joycons which have way more dimensionality than a wiimote. it's nice to know that they're not shying away from it just because we already had something like it in the past. i thought that's a perspective we fear nintendo to have with their ips (looking at paper mario, star fox, f-zero, earthbound)
I think the reason they showed the Peach and Luigi's mansion games is because it was the first direct since the Mario movie so probably their biggest Mario crowd watching
When there hasn't been a decent harvest moon game in quite a while and stardew valley history all the high points for the style I think it's pretty reasonable to make stardew valley the benchmark
For anyone curious, Super Mario RPG on the switch isn't grindy at all. You can avoid extra fights easily and never need additional experience or coins from grinding.
Both of these things are pretty unlikely, but I really want to be able to switch Mario out of the party in the Mario RPG remake and have different physics for every character in Mario Wonder. Particularly the latter because that was a huge selling point for the 3D Land/World Games and it would be weird to play as Peach/Daisy without being able to hover
I agree with the first take actually. With a quick glance, and not being knowing Mario too much, I could see Wonder looking like a mobile game. The kind with a big budget, good animations and slick, smooth 3D graphics. As a long time Mario fan though, that never crossed my mind. This just looks like the next 2D Mario installment on the latest Nintendo console, and it's building up to be amazing so far.
3:25 Mario RPGs tend to be the exact opposite of grinding. Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and the Mario and Luigi Series always tend to do a good job of giving you enough levels as long as you fight each enemy along your path at least once while just trying to complete the story. Not nearly as much grinding as any other 90s RPG.
The reason i LIKE how Wonder displays character at that angle, is because it looks like the older mario games. Go play Super Mario Bros 2 Super Mario Bros 3.. Super Mario World. They're mimicking that.
5:38 My spicy take w/ the farm sim games is that I kinda agree because a lot of them don't hold up and look rushed BUT the Story of Seasons (and by extension Rune Factory) series that directly inspired Eric to make SDV in the first place should NOT be grouped in w/ indie farm sims especially because SoS as a series was literally the start of all farm sims in *1996*. I hate how SoS has gotten treated as a series since SDV released. And before anyone says "but SDV introduced gay marriage in farmsims!" No, Natsume censored gay marriage out of DS Cute and scared the devs from ever putting it back in even though they wanted to!!! One guy on the team (name escapes me) even said in an interview how excited he was to put it back in the games after SDV proved it to be a popular choice!! In this house we hate Natsume and we hate the "clout-chasing" farm sims. End spciy take.
I don't agree with WarioWare being on autopilot at all. The last WarioWare game was super different, and it was an amazing change of pace. I do agree that WarioWare Move It! isn't very exciting, though. Edit: Just wanna say that I really love these vids! I like to read an opinion, pause and think about it myself, then unpause to see what Arlo has to say. Very fun!
My initial impression of Mario Wonder was also that it looked too... clean. Like a mobile game. The visuals have grown on me since however and are admittedly a big improvement over the previous few 2D Mario games.
I think the main thing with Detective Pikachu is, the original game looks better lighting-wise-- as in, the lighting in the oriignal game feels more intentionally crafted, more dramatic and appealing looking, whereas the new one has that same horrible flat basic lighting that Scarlet/Violet suffers from, and it makes it look extremely unfinished/unpolished. It's not necessarily a graphical or rendering issue, but a matter of like, well-crafted scene lighting
As someone who recently replayed and beat SMRPGLOTSS recently it is very much not grindy. Fight every battle as you naturally come across them and you will be perfectly fine. Ider any big difficulty spikes. Pro tip: every level youre given a stat to extra boost. Each level has a different stat that gets an EXTRA EXTRA boost. Its a pattern for the most part. But youll notice what a normal level boost is and what the extra boost is. Some levels HP will go up like 5 pts. You choose HP to get the bonus but 2 out of 3 levels that bonus will be like 4 more HP. One of them will be like 8 HP. So the other 2 levels are better served with their perspective attributes. Which is Offense/Defense and M Offense/M Defense
12:03 THIS! I've had this problem with almost every mario game that has come out for switch. It's not a deal breaker, but I feel like Nintendo has held back on the fun and wackiness with how these games are presented. It takes a lot out of the game's charm in my opinion
@@bruxtleup, and even then if someone still thought the game wasn't easy enough they could just equip the saftey ring and lazy shell armor to Peach and watch her snap the game balancing over her knee.
Not related to the direct at all, but while we’re in the topic of hot takes, I’ll get one off my chest that I’ve been thinking about lately. I, wholeheartedly think, and this is a hill I will die on, that the Super Smash Bros. series should not continue. I am not saying that everyone who worked on Ultimate can’t make a game better than Ultimate (they most certainly can), but Sakurai needs to create the games he actually wants to make. If the higher ups didn’t have a hand in anything, the series would have genuinely ended with either Melee or Brawl because Sakurai just isn’t the kind of person who likes making constant sequels to shill out for franchising purposes. That’s the whole reason why he gave up Kirby, even though Kirby is basically his love child. He was forced to give up the franchise he created because he felt he was making too many sequels. And I mean, JUST LOOK at what Sakurai can make when he’s left on his own! We get stuff like Kid Icarus Uprising, one of the most cleverly written and innovative games of all time that desperately needs an updated resolution port on the Switch. If the Smash series has to continue on a new console, then there are only two options I see that can be acceptable. If Sakurai still hasn’t left the series, I want him to take it easy and just polish the game little by little, and focus on adding DLC to the main game. A new batch of 3 - 5 characters would be the absolute most I could push myself to ask for, along with some new additions to World of Light like new bosses (seriously, the Splatoon series needed it’s own boss fight representative with DJ Octavio). All of that said, this is the least likely outcome knowing Sakurai. If he’s at the helm of a new entry, he is likely going to go all out again because he genuinely cares about the Smash Bros. franchise a lot. The other option that I can realistically see happening is Sakurai leaving the director’s seat open for someone from the younger generation to take. A young game dev who loves the franchise almost if not equally as much as Sakurai does, who has fresh new ideas to bring to the table. If this is the route they go for, I want a complete overhaul when it comes to how the game looks and feels with the next entry, alongside a reorganization and compacting the size of the roster. I know it’ll be painful for some fans if they see characters from Ultimate cut or some legacy characters gone, but I think it’s necessary for the franchise’s survival. The most healthiest and exciting thing that can happen for the next game is if new director and new team give their own unique spin on the core idea. On another note, I feel like this is also what has to happen with the Star Fox franchise. I’ll say it here, Star Fox Zero is not a bad game. But SF0 isn’t what the series needs either. I actually have some ideas and rough outlines for how a brand new Star Fox game can look, and it’s going to be nothing like anyone has ever seen before. Not that I plan to infiltrate my way into Nintendo’s game dev force and propose that I be the one to overhaul the franchise, I just write ideas for fun. I’m just saying that someone somehow needs to give both Super Smash Bros. and Star Fox a brand new look.
"this looks like a cellphone game" is such a WEIRD way of saying nothing at all regardless of what you think, Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact and Star Rail, even Call of Duty, Girls Frontline 2 are sometimes BETTER looking than recent games, it feels like most people are stuck in 2014
They tend to mean the "cheap" ones that leave an empty experience. At first glance it doesn't look like it is going to be remotely good but if you sit down you can see that it breaks away from that bad cellphone game quickly. Unfortunately most people's initial reaction distracts them unless they rewatch it.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 i don't think that's a excuse, because if Mario Wonder looks like a "cheap" cellphone game then that's still better than most recent triple A games. as if consoles don't have cheap looking games, it just feels like a boogeyman thing to say because no one played a phone game that isn't from 2014
For the Detective Pikachu graphics think : it's definitely the lighting. On the original, the shadows were very pronounced and soft, giving the whole thing a very gentle and warm look. The more realistic lighting on the sequel makes things kinda look flat by comparison. To be fair, the footage for the sequel's trailer might also just not be final.
I agree about the comments on NSMB Wonder's visuals, like it just looks like a prettier, more colorful version of previous NSMB games and I was really hoping for a complete revamp of the 2D Mario series rather than utilizing the same foundation of the NSMB series, which for me is starting to run its course. Also, I just wanted to give a shoutout to @MyNewSoundtrack (comment at 21:42 in the video), their videogame remixes have been top tier for years now!
Seriously though, Penny's Big Breakaway. Even without knowing it's the same people behind Sonic Mania, it feels like I can see that visual signature and color palette. Plus it just looks genuinely more fluid and fun than 90% of the recent platformer revival attempts.
I wonder if they decided to port Luigi's mansion dark moon because they're working on a new Luigi's Mansion game and want to use it to build excitment around the franchise?

Yeah exactly. It was never a problem in the original game, definitely not going to be a problem now. If anything it's going to be too easy. I'm afraid of bulldozing through it
Yea Square Enix's late SNES offereings of Chrono Trigger, Live A Live and Super Mario RPG all stand out as some of the few RPGs that are short in length and required no grinding compared to their other releases. Get it right Nintendo!
Hey- hey no we're getting Super Mario RPG, that's a good sign that they're going to bring back Mario RPGs as a whole
I think that the reason they revealed the Peach game and Luigi's Mansion is to tell people that they aren't just holding onto games for whatever comes out after Switch.
Who knows maybe those games will be coming to the next console. Maybe not dark moon but the peach game could be coming on the next console
Reminder , the original gameboy had a 10 years long life span as the main hardware in it field, in a time with way more hardware progress, 89-99 is from the megadrive to the Dreamcast, 2017-2027 is PS4 pro to PS5 pro maybe? Much much smaller leap in relative capability, we can moan about the switch being weak and outdated, but it's not really that behind that Nintendo can't wait till 2027 or longer before releasing a replacement
@@LillyP-xs5qe the gameboy had the GAMEBOY color release, which was entirely backwards compatible and is arguably a new generation of console despite what Nintendo says

It seemed impossible for Nintendo to justify a new 2D Mario after _Super Mario Maker 2. Wonder_ looks like the perfect answer to that, in a sense that there’s no perceivable way players could recreate the game’s mechanics.
Kinda hope it doesn’t come to Mario maker 3
@@crazycanyon3028maro maka 3(d?????????????)
Unironically a spicy take salad around 3ds games would go really hard in my opinion.
So for the detective Pikachu thing, I haven't played it, but judging just by your comparisons, the lighting in the 3Ds is far more dynamic.
Yeah. Switch version looks like it's barely a step above having no lighting at all. Especially with Pikachu's hat, it actually just does not cast any kind of shadow onto his head whatsoever, whereas it visibly did in the 3DS version.
That's what I was thinking, the lighting looks so much nicer and less flat
They just don't want the focus anywhere else but on the finely tuned gimmick of each stage, which is arguably the best way to design a pure platforming experience, but I don't think Mario fans necessarily want *a pure platforming experience.* That's what Meatboy, Celest, and N++ is for _(that's not a diss, I absolutely love Celest and N++)_
It's also what the original Super Mario Bros was for.

Yeah the last mainline traditional warioware was smooth moves. Gold kinda counts but was primarily a old minigame compilation with just a few new ones
@@liamlennon3316 Why isn’t “GIT” mainline tho?

That wasn't Penny Parker. It was a fake account.
It was @SnapsCube (with an 's'), not SpapCube, and the profile pic was a Pokemon.
Fun fact: one of the reasons Penny got a bit emotional to the announcement during the direct was that she recently got her name changed legally
As soon as I heard him read out the comment, I immediately looked up expecting it to be from Penny Parker. I was not disappointed.

Gotta be my favorite entry into the alternative universe saga so far.

The big problem with DPR’s graphics is the lighting and polish. On the 3DS, Pikachu has this level of fluidity that is absent in the new game.

The Luigi's Mansion series is like i put 3 really good burgers in front of you
One has to be the best and one has to be worst but that doesnt mean its bad
bro, smooth moves was amazing and only used a basic wii remote (for the most part) which didn't even have gyro controls (let alone any other fancy feature that the joycons have). im excited that we're finally getting a fuller realization of that game, using 2 joycons which have way more dimensionality than a wiimote. it's nice to know that they're not shying away from it just because we already had something like it in the past. i thought that's a perspective we fear nintendo to have with their ips (looking at paper mario, star fox, f-zero, earthbound)
I think the reason they showed the Peach and Luigi's mansion games is because it was the first direct since the Mario movie so probably their biggest Mario crowd watching
I hate people call it the stardew valley pie when it is the harvest moon pie
When there hasn't been a decent harvest moon game in quite a while and stardew valley history all the high points for the style I think it's pretty reasonable to make stardew valley the benchmark
For anyone curious, Super Mario RPG on the switch isn't grindy at all. You can avoid extra fights easily and never need additional experience or coins from grinding.

A new Arlo vid is like a warm hug. And I needed a hug today.
One of the more interesting sponsor introductions you’ve done, and that’s saying something!! Haha
I'm like 90% sure that Dark Moon actually outsold Link Between Worlds by like 2 million copies.
The reason i LIKE how Wonder displays character at that angle, is because it looks like the older mario games.

Very fun!
I can’t ever skip the Raycon ads they’re literally too entertaining

Yes, Wario Land needs to comeback! And, have Waluigi in it
Wario Land shake it sold poorly, that’s why
I have that same UI issue with Mario Party. Look at the menus in older Mario Party games and they look so much more fun and vibrant than Superstars.
"this looks like a cellphone game" is such a WEIRD way of saying nothing at all
regardless of what you think, Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact and Star Rail, even Call of Duty, Girls Frontline 2 are sometimes BETTER looking than recent games, it feels like most people are stuck in 2014
They tend to mean the "cheap" ones that leave an empty experience.
I just want to say, I would love to see more videos like this going forward.
23 minute spicy take salad, thank you arlo
Seriously though, Penny's Big Breakaway. Even without knowing it's the same people behind Sonic Mania, it feels like I can see that visual signature and color palette. Plus it just looks genuinely more fluid and fun than 90% of the recent platformer revival attempts.
I wonder if they decided to port Luigi's mansion dark moon because they're working on a new Luigi's Mansion game and want to use it to build excitment around the franchise?
3:25 I can't recall any grinding in Mario RPG, I wonder if this person has even played the game
