      It happens to lots of divers, however the majority think only a dive shop can fix it and abort a dive.
      Thanks for watching Mark.

    Excellent video, yet again, Alec. Your channel has been the perfect compliment through my underwater adventures and soon to be career! As my knowledge and certifications grow, there always seems to be a video of yours to grow with me and keep my interest piqued. Thanks for passing such greatly appreciated information to those in the diving community. If you're ever in Key West, my gear is always standing by.

      I love Key West. My wife and I go there almost every year.
      I usually dive with Lost Reef. I like the old guy there and the shop's been around forever.
      Plus they have that great fish place at the far side of the parking lot - looks like a dump but it's fun and good food.
      Take care.,

    Thanks for the tip Alec! This literally just happened to me after being out of the water for 1.5 months. I was so worried my reg got damaged on the plane ride.
    Another small topic suggestion: I just bought my first brand new wetsuit and I needed only 2lbs less in a 5mm than with my 7mm and hooded vest - hopefully this will resolve itself with more diving. It would be awesome to have a video on how certain things like new wetsuits, different tanks, different types of BCDs impact how much weight you need.

    • @tedreitsma478
      @tedreitsma478 5 лет назад

      Laura Allen . Hi Laura. I can help you a bit with that. As you already implied, the wet suit weighting will change over time as you use your wetsuit more and it gets compressed more at depth. Tanks, you can look up on line what their weight is (meaningless), bouyance weight full and empty ( very useful). A typical aluminum 80 ft3 is 4 lbs more buoyant empty than full. My weight fluctuates from 200lb to 240 lb. i have wet suits, dry suit, sidemount, back mount, rebreather, etc. i make it a habit with all this to RECORD in my summary logs what weight seems ideal for each gear setup i have and for each wet suite. Plus my current fatness weight. Also salt vs fresh water. It is a bit tedious but nothing is more frustrating than having the wrong weight on in your first dive off the live aboard boat. My notes save this aggravation. Trim can also be affected. I have different fins i use at times. Some are heavy, some are neutral and some are buoyant. You have no way of knowing by looking at them. Hopefully a knowledgable sales agent can tell you.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  5 лет назад

      Ted is quite right. A new wetsuit is more buoyant than an old one. Once you have a dozen or so dives on it, you'll find you can probably take a few pounds off your weight belt with the 5mm.
      There are many, many factors that determine the proper weight and those factors can change from dive to dive.
      I'll work on a video for that.
      Take care.

    Alec, great video. I like all your vids. We all know you love Seahunt--Are you a fan of Jacques Cousteau as well ? When I was a kid in the late 60's, I didn't get to see much Seahunt, But Jacques was on every Sunday, so that was my introduction to diving. I wanted a Calypso of my own. Cheers

    Might be a silly question: If a have an Air integrated dive computer with a transmitter, do I still need the pressure gauge hose ??

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  5 дней назад

      Totally depends on you. Keep it and put a small dive computer or SPG on for backup or remove and plug it. Think about your style of diving. If you had a computer failure, do you end the dive, or go to your backup/SPG and continue? Some divers are shallow and local so ending is not a concern. Some travelled half way around the world and don't want to end a dive they dreamed about.

    Hey, Alec, I'm having an issue underwater where my exhaust is coming up right in front of my mask and obscuring vision. It's probably a common issue for divers (laws of physics being what they are) but I was wondering if you had any tips to try and minimize that?

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  4 года назад +1

      Happens all the time. First are you facing down fully? If your face/body trim is somewhat vertical, the exhaust will go straight up your mask. If facing down turn your head slightly to one side while finning. This lets bubbles go up towards your ears not eyes. Hope this helps Brad.

    Hi Alec I’m hoping you can help! I live in South Florida and I beach dive with a group of friends three-ish times a week. The weather has kept us from diving for the last few weeks and I think my gills are drying out! Please advise!!! Thx!! ;-))

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  5 лет назад +1

      OK DH. I've had that problem. Here's how I solved it:
      1. put a Sea Hunt video on the TV
      2. place a large towel on the floor under your feet.
      2. put your mask in place over your face
      4. get a friend or family member to slowly spray water onto your head and into your face as you watch the video.
      5. don't forget to equalize.
      Good luck.
      Alec

    Isn't there a seal treatment to reduce or eliminate that from happening?

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  5 лет назад

      Not really. If left for any lengthy period, any treatment will dry out.
      Rubber will definitely stick; silicon not so much.
      A slight smear of silicon grease on the exhaust port seat where the seal sits is probably the best.
      This is not a big p[roblem. It just happens occasionally so I thought I'd address it.
      Take care.

    • @tedreitsma478
      @tedreitsma478 5 лет назад +1

      caetano coutinho. Hi caetano, maybe i can answer. I took equipment course about this stuff. Your first stage generally has a thin diaphragm membrane that is under constant pressure whether you use your gear or not. It will therefore wear. All o rings are rubber and they will decay with time too. This is why the courses say get them serviced yearly. I admit that i only service my stuff before a big expensive trip. But sating that, i alway have a bailout bottle or dive sidemount so i have redundancy ( i use 2 computers ). So you are likely safe but it is not recommended. I cannot speak for Alec who is the true expert, but my gut feeling is he will agree.

      Ted is quite right. There are parts that deteriorate even if not being used.
      The newest regs use a lot more synthetic materials rather than rubber so it's becoming less of a problem.
      If you use your regs a lot, every year and maybe every month on average, an annual service is highly recommended.
      You don't seem to use your very much so perhaps service them just before you go diving as Ted says.
      Take care.
