Kingston do provide ECC memory - I have one stick of KSM26SED8/16MR in my 923+ and will hopefully have another one arrive tomorrow. How important are matched memory modules anyway - I know some models only have one accessible slot?
@@cptcrogge Running "dmidecode -t memory" suggests it's enabled. I have no idea how I would disable ECC even if I wanted to, other than to not install it in the first place.
Hi Travis! tbh ORIGINALLY I wasn't going to, as the details were so incredibly thin and WD was not giving anything away. HOWEVER, overnight I have been forwarded by several users the TechCrunch article that got published yesterday where the alleged perpetrators of the security incident spoke out about what they managed to do, the data taken, the expectations on gains and correspondence with WD. So, that changes EVERYTHING! I made this video this morning (ruclips.net/video/aXA86SGChq0/видео.html) and a detailed article on the blog here (nascompares.com/2023/04/14/western-digital-cyber-incident-wd-my-cloud-nas-taken-down-up-wd-shop-unavailable-what-happened/) . Thanks for watching the vids bud. Have a great weekend!
I upgraded my aging DS716+ quite a while ago from 2 to 8GB (the max officially supported by the N3150 inside) and even without any VM's or Docker's this makes a major difference. I really can't get it that Synology does not ship it's plus models with at least 8GB of memory (and a more modern processor). I would upgrade to a new plus model today if only they were shipping it with decent hardware... Now the difference is just too small.
I highly doubt third part ddr4 is going to cause much of any problem in these nas even though they are not ECC. I been running normal nas diy for ages hehe
I have 2x 16 GB Kingston KCP426SD8/16 in Synology DS1821+ . The system runs without problems.
Can also confirm that the Lockerstor AS6704T supports 32GB Crucial SO-DIMM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) CL22.
There's a RAM Megathread with 80+ user submitted RAM tests on the website that rhymes with edit, but my comment keeps being removed.

Let us know if ECC works.
@@cptcrogge I’ve had a stick of the above in it for months, so yes. I’ve just ordered a second to have two matched pairs.
Unsurprisingly, two matched sticks work at least as good as just the one.
@@syl764 But is ECC actually enabled?

thanks for all the work yall put in. Any plans to do a video on the WD Mycloud issue?

Thanks mate 😊
Glad we have the 3rd party RAM tests done for everyone to stop arguing about.
First of many. Really took my foot off the gas on these, so been catching up recently

Cause they want you to spend 300 on ECC Synology Magic Ram
