- Band saw or Scroll saw? I get asked this question sometimes so I decided to make a video about it. The ultimate decision is yours and of course this is only my opinion, but I hope this video helps you out.

I picked up a used bandsaw for $60 about a month ago and I love it! So much easier and faster than hogging out loads of wood with a dremel. You can make very precise cuts too. Definitely a great addition for any carver imo.
Yeah I rate the bandsaw. You got a bargain there. 👍
I started with a scroll saw and just purchased a bandsaw a couple days ago, I have yet to set it up though. I must add, you can make "larger" cuts with a scroll saw if you go slow, I've cut through many 2in boards to block out a carving.
Cheers.
Great video Matt. Yes I agree that the bandsaw is the most versatile. That will be my next purchase.
Cool, should make carving that Jarrah a bit easier 😀 👍
I'm in love with scroll sawing I tried it a few years back on a low budget and didn't get on with it . I've invested in a hegner scroll saw and it's a totally different experience and u can cut anything u can imagine long as its less than 12 mm though.
Yeah, I had a cheap scroll saw it fell apart and didn't cut well. Got that good one now, it sure makes a difference.
Thank you Matt. You answered all my questions.
Cool. cheers Allen 🍻
Actually I have a couple more questions😂
1) what brand and TPI is your blade. I’m buying my first band saw and see your setup cuts great.
2) I have had I’d theft problems in the past and am very cautious of my credit card info. I can not do the monthly recurring payments. I can do a one time not recurring yearly payment and will be glad to do it. Any chance you can have that an option on your membership?
Thank you for what you do. Cheers!
@@AllenMingis I think it is rebranded when shipped to NZ but here is the link to the machine I bought. www.jacks.co.nz/products/saws/bandsaws/17
TPI is 6
Sorry to hear about your credit card theft I had a similar thing happen, I tend to use a debit card for everything online now with a limit. Sorry I cant do yearly payments as it is overseen by youtube and they make all the rules.
Cheers Allen
TPI is most important so that helps. I have a 10” Grizzly machine on its way. I don’t have room for a 14”. Looking at your link and the saw I ordered they could have been made by the same company. Almost identical except size.
I will figure something out with the recurring payments. I hate not to get all your videos. I might open up a small limit charge card just for recurring payments. Thank you for your help. I’ll order a 6 TPI blade.
@@AllenMingis sounds like you got it sorted 👍
Awesome video Matt. 👍👍👍 That Shroom Spoon looks awesome. I have a problem with the bandsaw blade twisting and not cutting straight, have you come across this? If so how do you fix it?
You might need a bigger blade if you doing straight cuts. The blade I use is for curves, I cut straight lines with but it does go off course. It will twist also if doing curve that are to tight.
Yay I’ve been waiting for this.
Cool. Cheers Linda 🍻
I was going to get a scroll saw but might just get a bandsaw instead and get a scroll saw after a bandsaw . Cheers Matt 👍
Cheers Joe.
Thanks Matt for the explanation , i could of done with this information before i wrecked my band saw!
Yeah, I have wrecked a few bandsaw blades but not the bandsaw, luckily. Hope your enjoying the snow over there 👍
Thank you Matt ❤ that was very educational 😊 I have a scrollsaw since past 12 years and always wanted to buy a bandsaw but it's too expensive in India..... God wiling someday I shall buy😁🙏
Cheers Mahendra. Hopefully, one day, you'll find a bandsaw.
@@MattCarves Amen 🙏 😊
If you want really fine sawdust it's hard to beat a scroll saw. 🤧
Nice bandsaw Matt! Thanks for the tips and tricks. Good work!
