Great tutorial and makes sense to me (finally). I’ve watched other videos and never really understood it so I’m going to prune mine these next few days. My vines are a MESS and hopefully I’ll be able to get them somewhat under control! I am SO glad Tuck is doing better❤. He is such a precious pooch.
I saw your channel last year for the first time. Thanks to you and tuck for teaching an old dog new tricks. I have been working in a garden since 1963 and still learning. We had a 100ft x 100ft and now have a 16ft x28ft raised bed. Thanks to you and tuck I now trellis, I now make my wife happy with cleaner produce. I now make my own soil for planting seeds and flowers. I grew carrots this year for a change like that of your method and I had the best carrots ever. Neighbors were impressed, passed on your technology. Hope they build their soil. Tuck is a good companion and will be fine. Thanks again and I hope you keep teaching us old dogs new tricks my friend. Good gardening James and Tuck.
hey James! Portuguese farmer here. For the renewal zone i always count 3 buds, cut the cane and then remove the top bud leaving the bottom ones untouched. it helps with the healing process and sap circulation, and next year you can just cut that top off causing minimal stress to the vine. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your grapevine pruning video. This has been so confusing to me before now. The two pruning videos you’ve done are the best ones I’ve ever watched. You are fantastic! Thanks!
It's very nice to see you in winter, James! Great pruning explanation and demonstration! So much easier to see in winter with no leaves and fruit on. Very glad to see you still have the raised bed covers you showed us how to make. 🤗Tucker ❤
I spent the whole day today clicking to find how to prone my 3 bush grape trees which been growing for about 5 years but no Grapes until I was advised to prone it but couldn't grasp what most youtubers were saying until I came across you. My Lord your explaining so clear I'm going to follow you. Thanks so much.
I can't wait to see the abundance of grapes. LOL Tucker said nope, this is mine and good bye. LOL He needed his own little garden. Thanks for sharing. Happy New year to the both of you too.
Thanks for the video James. Pruning is one of my favorite parts of having a food forest. Getting to shape it all. And your energy in your videos gets me HYPED to get out there.
James,, my whole family is now watching your videos. Love the content and your energy is contagious! Just what we need to get us through winter. Glad to see Tuck doing better too.
That grape arbor 😍 reminds me of my granddad. He’s gone now, but 2 years ago I successfully rooted a cutting from grapes he planted about 15 years ago. My dream would be to create an arbor like he used to have in his backyard, all the clusters of ripe grapes hanging low just waiting to be picked! 🍇
OMG, I have watched so many grape pruning videos that just confused me more, including ones where I was tying different colored ribbons I don't know where. This is the simplest grape pruning tutorial I have ever seen. My grape did not have that much growth last year, but right after this video, I will run out and check what I can do to help it fruit this year. Thank you! Love seeing you, your brightness, andTuck!
Hi James, this is the best video yet I’ve seen on here have for new grapevines for the back garden to run along trellises And Beau Gola great advice to refer back to going forward into summer thumbs up for the video Best wishes from the UK west country thank you for a great advice
Great explanation! Great timing, too. I accidentally did the right thing yesterday on my grape vine in my front yard. Now, I know what to do for the ones in the back yard. Thank you!
So glad Tuck is doing better. ❤️❤️❤️ He is always so much fun to watch him following you around the garden & looking for a snack. So glad you did this video. I will have to save it as I want to have grapes once I’m able to move to my own piece of land. I want to have red grapes, what variety do you grow? See ya on the next one. Have a blessed day 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️💕
I am very happy to see you both. And Tuck is looking wonderful. He has been on my mind after I saw the video about his ailment. I have been looking at your videos from as far as 5 years ago. Always by your side the Boss . My your new year be successful especially with Tuck
This video came out at the perfect time. I watched the video about pruning fruit trees yesterday and was wondering about my grape vines. Your Felco pruners sound sharp. I'm going to have to get a pair. I hope Tuck is feeling well 💖
My gardening buddy was a little shih-tzu who also developed collapsing trachea at around 10. Ultimately it coupled with some heart failure in a way that made things pretty tough for him and we had to say goodbye. I still think about him every time I'm in the garden!
So happy to see a video from you! Glad you are posting a little off season and I am glad that Tuck is doing well. Great video! I learned a lot about pruning grapes. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great instructional video. I had tried to grow grapes in the past and had no idea what I was doing. Never pruned them just thought the longer the better. Had 10 canes each growing 10 feet. In each direction. Got 1 grape in year 3 at end of one vine. Another problem was that neighbors trees blocked the sun. Maybe I try again soon now that I see what to do. Just against instincts learning to garden to cut stuff down. My parents had wild concord grapes on a fence that produced a ton of grapes and were never pruned I guess we were just lucky. Mom made grape pie every year for my dads birthday. Best pie ever !
Planted two muscadine Vines last spring down here in Georgia and was feeling a little overwhelmed by the vigorous uncontrolled growth in the past 10 months. Watched this video and went out with a plan to prune each back to two main leaders to train to the trellis and now feeling like I've got a good scaffold for them to last years. Thanks, James! Love your videos and love seeing tuck!
