  • Many lies have been spread by Americans regarding the response to Hurricane Helene. Here are the facts:
    1. National Guard and Active Duty soldiers and Airmen from multiple states are assisting in search and rescue, aid delivery and cleanup. The primary goal is to get the roads open.
    2. FEMA does not have arrest powers. They are not confiscating food.
    3. Volunteers who are not coordinating with the National Guard are hurting more than they are helping.
    4. The hurricane was not engineered by the US Government or Blackrock to grab land for a lithium mine.

It was intended to allow you to get short term, critical necessities that you need in just the coming days for survival like clothes, food, water, and medicine. If you have small children, baby formula, toddler solid foods, diapers. Stuff that is used daily and are absolute necessities for your health and survival in the short term. My guess is that is likely being passed out largely to impoverished people who already wouldn't have had the money for that to begin with. People who already have money and only who's homes were destroyed but otherwise are okay financially do not need that $750 nearly as much as the lower class does. When the anarchists from Asheville are coordinating with the government better than you are, there is something wrong. Barring a couple of isolated incidents where a power tripping fire chief threatened to arrest a volunteer pilot, no volunteers are being turned away. They are being given radio frequencies, search areas, roads to clear. I have family in Asheville and Appalachia. They refute a lot of what you say. The fact there are so many videos and news reports refuting what you're saying lends credence to what my family is saying. There was no problem with airspace until some butthurt Fire Chief decided citizens helping citizens was imposing on his authority. He's the one who caused the airspace restrictions, by lying to the FAA, which were almost immediately countermanded once the truth was discovered. He was so sure of his authority that he refused to be interviewed and hasn't been heard from since. Citizens clearing trees off the roads were being stopped and told to leave "for their safety". Then the "authorities" would say they can't get around easily because the roads are littered with trees. You literally cannot make this shit up.
    The first NG Units on the scene weren't from NC. And yes, people were being told they'll be arrested if they help citizens. FEMA is trash, but no...they don't have arrest authority. What they do is send the local Cops and NG soldiers to do their bidding. THAT is why nobody wants to "coordinate" anything with them. The record is clear...coordinate and face problems, or ignore them and get the job done. It wasn't the citizens who were as usual, attempting to seize weapons, ignore other citizens in need of assistance, or just flat out get in the way.

Why couldn't FEMA just tell the volunteers to take the load to some local church in a town and then mark it down that this town had a load delivered there so another load wasn't sent there? The reason is little bureaucrats love control it feeds their ego. So instead of asking the volunteers bringing in donations in the back of a truck to check in with FEMA and agreeing where the load was needed and recording where it went they have to offload the supplies to sit in a warehouse while people starve. Thanks for making this video. I went to WNC to help my grandparents who are an hour east of Asheville/30 mins from Hendersonville. I arrived two days after it hit and I saw massive military helicopters in the sky. Gigantic. It was about 5 miles away from my grandparent’s farm but it looked huge, like an entire cargo ship in the sky. We heard them flying overhead for those two days I was there. My grandparents power came back on the day after it hit, but their internet took a little while to boot up, so we replaced theirs with the comparatively cheaper Starlink system. Their pond flooded a good 15 feet, but their farmhouses, barns, and chicken coops are on top of hills, so nothing flooded. On my drive there all the roads were cleared and I saw people making bonfires to burn the fallen trees. Ash makes a good fertilizer!

    • @rjo49
      @rjo49 8 дней назад +2

      A little ash makes a good fertilizer, especially in highly weathered, acidic clays. Too much will ruin the soil structure, which in clays isn't that great to begin with. Ash is very alkaline (it was used in place of lye for making soap in colonial days) and really only a decent source of potassium, aka potash (hmmm...wonder where it got that name), and chemically extremely reactive. Normally it's considered "organic", but the properties are much closer to a chemical fertilizer, and a particularly active one at that. Used a little at a time over a period of time, with frequent soil tests to keep the pH at or above 6.5, it's ok.

      East of Asheville was far luckier than west of Asheville. Those huge military helicopters can't land in some of the places that have needed help. Power is still out in many areas, as well as roads, and only small private helicopters flown by volunteers like Airlift Relief and Operation Airdrop have been getting to those people. As is so often the case, there are half truths being thought to be the whole story coming from all directions.

    Well, I'm not getting my info from FB posts. I've watched several videos where the guys were interviewed on camera. One was a guy that went in there with his own helicopter and found a couple frantically waving at them. They were stuck and isolated. He had his son with him as the co-pilot. He left his son, took the woman out. When he landed, the Deputy fire chief told him to get the hell out of there and he was NOT to go back in there for anyone else or he would be arrested. Now, his son is back there with the husband. The dude flat said I'm not leaving my son in there, and went and got him. He told the husband I'm sorry, I can't take you out of here, I'm told I'll be arrested if I do. He left him there. Several hours later a team found the guy and they were on the other side of the river, they shot a line across to him and pulled across the river by a rope. That doesn't seem safer to me than a helicopter ride. Both the husband and wife are on camera talking about it. It's not made up. A couple of hours after the private helo owner was run off by the deputy fire chief, they were begging them to come back and help. I watched another video of people that were helping collect donated supplies from various church groups etc., and the local sheriff came in and said he was going to have to confiscate it. They had received reports that the lady that was running the donations was stealing some of them. I don't know if that's true or not but a lot of people involved with the process were defending her and saying they were flat out wrong. I can check through my history and provide you with links to these videos if you want me to. So, before you paint with such a broad brush, maybe you should also do a little more investigating. I'm not saying all your points are BS but there some exceptions to some crappy stuff going on up there.

      The problem with situations like this, is that uncoordinated efforts can actually be more dangerous than not. They tend to restrict flights in the area because there needs to be tight coordination between the emergency services and local help, without that coordination accidents can and will happen. They had good intentions, but in some ways they were actually making the situation more dangerous. The deputy chief definitely over reacted and should have explained the situation clearly and worked with them instead of just threatening them, but on the other hand he was probably dealing with a hell of a lot right then.
      I did mountain rescue a long time ago and individuals that just took it upon themselves to help without coordinating with us were almost always worst than useless. They help during emergencies like hurricanes, floods, tornadoes or winter storms and provide support during recovery efforts. Aviation units support local governments in searching for missing persons, help local law enforcement with aerial searches, and fight forest fires. The Stafford Act authorizes the use of the military for disaster relief operations at the request of the State's Governor. A President cannot send in regular-duty military until then. That is why President Trump at the time couldn't send in regular military units the president commanded during the BLM riots to tamp them down. It's how the founding fathers designed the system.

      People haved learned not to trust their government/media. Why? Partly becuse of a lack of forthright transparency and partly because of agency leadership playing CYA. Fertile ground for the seeds of falsehood and negative imagining. Clarity of actions and intent on the part of leadership would go a long way to remedy this.

    The magnitude of this disaster is stunning. Roads and bridges have been washed out leaving many communities inaccessible except by helicopter or on foot up mountain trails. Some volunteers have been delivering supplies via pack mules over muddy trails that ATV's can't handle. Kudos to the NC National Guard for their quick response. FEMA... not so much. they don't have the assets or the training to deal with this one. The real heroes are the local folks who are working together to help their neighbors, and the local First Responders who are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

    • @TonySquared09
      @TonySquared09 8 дней назад +4

      I think this is what part of the issue is. Because of the extensive destruction of the roads caused by landslides and bridges washed away will mean the bulk of the work that needs to be done can't be done until the roads are cleared or repaired. With mountains, high trees, broken roads and the only places to land is full of debris, I can understand why you aren't simply seeing many heavy vehicles like Military trucks, massive diggers etc because of how inaccessible the areas are.
      People seem to forget that aid comes from the outside -> inwards, not the other way round which just means you need the roads to be accessible to deliver aid at scale.

    Thank you for explaining what the $750 actually is. I had never heard the name of the program that issues that amount of money and it’s awesome to understand what it actually is. I can completely see how people are able to utilize it as a misinformation talking point and so yeah it’s disappointing that it’s not more widely known what the program is.

      @@dingaia Also another lie/misinformation is that FEMA is out of money and thus cannot help anyone.... except (as a Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Imelda victim here in Texas) I can tell you that FEMA is the 1 government agency that is permitted by law to spend money far and beyond what it's been allocated that year on natural disasters and later AFTER THE FACT Congress retroactively approves additional funding to cover the FEMA deficit. FEMA can spend as much money as FEMA needs to spend per budget year on natural disasters, whether it's in the Black or in the Red it makes no difference. Because FEMA cannot predict what natural disasters may occur in their next annual budget, FEMA has this contingency built in so that it cannot actually go bankrupt. I will point out this though: FEMA is incredibly inefficient... I found that almost all of the time the FEMA Left hand didn't have a clue what the FEMA Right hand was doing, and they wasted ENTIRELY too much money on ridiculous monthly inspections of everything I had at my flooded home here in Liberty county TX! Literally, every month they would send people out to inspect my progress (which I had to prove I was making progress on my home every month in order to continue to use a FEMA disaster camper for 12 months). FEMA spent I would guess at least 3-4 times as much money as was actually needed on me just because of all the people they kept sending out to check my progress (but not to actually lift a hammer and help me with the house repairs mind you, no... those people weren't here to help they were here to get paid and tell FEMA if I should be kicked out of the FEMA disaster camper or not; for the man hours billed, they could have just given me that stupid little camper!).

    Thank you for mentioning Connecticut. Some of my son's Chinook crew just returned home after a week of delivering emergency supplies and rescuing stranded victims of the floods. It was an incredible operation of cooperation and brotherhood among fellow citizens and personnel. One problem, which you mentioned, was the danger of avoiding contact with private helicopters as they traversed the mountainside. The ability of the National Guard to carry out this kind of emergency procedure is key to securing a safe and effectively run nation. Thanks again Ryan.

      Chinooks can deliver supplies but CANNOT get into the devastated areas to rescue citizens. The smaller private helicopters are doing what the larger ones can't.
