This is the best tutorial and demo for the Minibrute so far! Also it is very very intuitive for a beginner to understand the basis of analog sinths! Thank you.
I'm so happy that you did the drumbrute demo at sonicstate. this allowed me to discover your alternate identity Mr mylar melodies and find this channel with infinite filthy funky demos. loving it. thanks
This is the best demo of the Arturia Minibrute I have seen... Most of the other don't have a analog background like this Gentleman... Especially someone like myself who grew up in the early 70s from the Moog and ARP days.... GOOD JOB!
By far one of the better minibrute demos I've seen...I got mine when they first came out, but at 299 I'm seriously considering adding a second!! The Braids sounds great, I am using my Shruthi-1 alongside minibrute, I tune them to major/minor/diminished, and use the minibrute osc and sub to really fill out the sound for some great pads or old skool sounding chord stabs...sweet machines!!!
Best Minibrute review ever.. I've probably seen all of it by now, and this review just taught me a lot of stuff I didn't know until now. Very fresh perspective, thanks a lot. Eventide helps a lot, too :) (I use something similar, too)
Just discovered this, via MiniBrute designer Yves Usson's 'HackaBrute' site - you can instantly convert the firmware of a 'vanilla' MiniBrute to the Sequencer-enabled firmware of the MiniBrute SE for free. And vice-versa if you have an SE and prefer to have the arpeggiator - the only physical difference between the models is the metalwork/end cheeks. The firmware choice is yours: hackabrute.yusynth.net/MINIBRUTE/standard2SE_en.html
Awesome video and nice clear explanation of all the parameters. I love the unique touches of the minibrute very inspirarional. Excellent semi modular options .
An enjoyable video about this great little, versatile machine. I have one since a long time and I think it's capable of a lot of different sounds, from weird and crazy to classic monophonic analog stuff. I love the modulation options and the option to do those "old" thick and viby sounds. Only two negative things: Filter sweeps can introduce some underlying unmusical timbres to the fundamental wave forms. The soft plastic knobs and the side panels have become very sticky (nearly like a fly catcher) and that is spoiling all the fun using this machine haptically.
Hello?? Man, this is absolutely brilliant, I don't just enjoyed the all video in fact get in love with this marvellous synth. By the economy I bought the MicroBrute which is such machine but afterwards get realice that Minibrute is sensational. Thank you a lot for this great video and hopefully you have another for MicroBrute. cheers!!
DJ Shuffle I think the simple way of deciding is if you have a load of modular gear, I'd suggest MicroBrute, and if you don't (so you need a synth that can do a lot more on its own), go MiniBrute.
I love the way this can interface with a computers sound sources - using Supercollider or Logic to provide the source sounds. In the meanwhile, I know this demonstrates the Beatstep Pro, however, I'd be interested to know what the advantage (pros and cons) of using a MicroBrut or MiniBrut with a Beatstep - if there is any? I notice in other videos all the control happens through the ModMatrix (MicroBrute), is this important? Thanks in advance.
great introduction to Minibrute. I'm hardly a fan of the sounds of its oscillators, they seem way too rough, especially with that drive. Nevertheless your presentation seems to bring out the best of this instrument.
Very nice demo! - i got the SE version a while ago, and wonder if you know, if the sequencer goes/sync out via Midi? - i havent ben able to trigger notes on my Yamaha synth sent out by the Minibrutes sequencer? - playing notes directly on the Minibrute does however trigger, - thanks, Levi in sweden - (i have checked that the Midi-parameters on the Yamaha is right)
Can you show us more on the beatstep pro please ?? :) do the two note sequencers have to connect to cv only equipment or can they drive midi synths ? (And user defined midi out channel per sequencer)
Thank you :) Drum sequencer question (if I may) 16 parts, one part per pad (Arturia website info) can you set each pad to its own midi channel then ? (Drum sequencer only - not melodic sequencers) for example: pads 1 to 8 to those corresponding midi channels then 9 to 16 to a single channel for those lower pads ?
I’m looking to buy either the microbrute or minibrute but I’m on the fence. These two models seem really close to one another in terms of sound and features. However each has 3 particular features which seem unique to each model. Mini has a dedicated Vibrato switch/pot and Arpeggiator. Micro has a sequencer. Im curious if there’s a workaround to get vibrato, arp and sequencer on one of these synths - the Mini or Micro? It seems like the sequencer on the Micro is simply a name change from “arpeggiator” to “sequencer” but it’s difficult to distinguish these particular differences based on reviews. Anyway, I’m curious if you have experience with both the Mini & Micro? Maybe you could help clarify? Thank you.
Mini has vibrato, with micro I guess you make it by sending the lfo the pitch control... Arp and seq (not the same at all) functions are interchangable in the mini, make a quick search (yt or "hackabrute"). Cheers! The most "ups" of the micro I think are the patchbay and the tunable subosc, for the mini the extra envelope, aftertouch, noise maybe (can trick it in the micro)
I just unboxed this bitch and I can barely get notes out of it. If I don’t figure it out soon I’ll be throwing myself in the bin cause I’m deffo not throwing 200 quid in the bin
+Mathew Wong That's just one of the Wavetable settings on the "WTX4" mode (peek at the knob settings and you should be able to set it up on yours)! But you're obviously also hearing it through the MiniBrute's filter and audio input.
Question. In what ways can I integrate/combine my Korg Monotron Duo with the Minibrute? I'm thinking at least two: (i) play it in via the audio in and bring it in via the audio in mixer fader; and (ii) use it as a pre-filter secondary filter by putting the headphone out from the Minibrute into the Monotron and and then bringing it in via the audio in mixer. ???
Can I use an external MIDI controller (keyboard) to control the synth instead of the keys on the synth (Hoping that's what MIDI-out means). I'm new to these things (hence the question). Adrian Utley got me into this synth but I'd like to play parts on it that require more than two octaves of keys at a time..
+Iggytommy Good deal isn't it! :) The way I think about it - if you have lots of other analogue gear with CV inputs (and maybe eurorack/modular gear), or plan to get some, then you probably will like the fact that the MicroBrute has more CV I/O and the sequencer! But if you don't have any of that, the MiniBrute can do more self-contained. And you can add the sequencer to the MiniBrute with a free sysex dump.
SourceDistributionTV - - thanks!! yes, that makes sense; I concur. I have no other synth gear (well, apart from a Monotron Duo). Minibrute just ordered. £279. :)
***** That's all MiniBrute - note the Audio Input slider is set to zero, you can read the rest of the patch from the panel settings, try it if you get one! :)
It is out of tune. And every time when you tune it in one octave you playing becomes out of tune in others octaves. It is terrible! Dont believe me, watch youtube "minibrute tuning" for shure
Then not technically, no. You can get detune 'effects' with the ultrasaw, and the sub octave generator, but for true detune a la multi-VCO synth, you need a second sound source fed into the MiniBrute, like we show with the Mutable Instruments Braids in the video.
this is the best review of the minbrute on youtube hands down!
About to say same thing
This is the best tutorial and demo for the Minibrute so far! Also it is very very intuitive for a beginner to understand the basis of analog sinths! Thank you.
Wow! Excellent overview. Just picked one up off eBay for £180 and thought I should snap it up. This demo tells me I've made the right move. Thanks.
4 years later : O ... hands down to such wonderful demo.
A very thorough demo which showcased more sounds than many demos bother to do. I also loved your repeated use of the word "ace".
28m - frickin amazing, you've given me some ideas for pad designs
I'm so happy that you did the drumbrute demo at sonicstate. this allowed me to discover your alternate identity Mr mylar melodies and find this channel with infinite filthy funky demos. loving it. thanks
The best demo i've seen with a Minibrute!
This guy is the most eloquent synth tutor online.
This is the best demo of the Arturia Minibrute I have seen... Most of the other don't have a analog background like this Gentleman... Especially someone like myself who grew up in the early 70s from the Moog and ARP days....
GOOD JOB!
+Chuck Belloise .... To bad this synth doesn't have a memory recall!
+Chuck Belloise Thanks Chuck. That's what pen and paper was invented for! :)
One of the best demos I've seen of this machine. Lotsa exciting ideas to approach making sounds on a monosynth!
By far one of the better minibrute demos I've seen...I got mine when they first came out, but at 299 I'm seriously considering adding a second!! The Braids sounds great, I am using my Shruthi-1 alongside minibrute, I tune them to major/minor/diminished, and use the minibrute osc and sub to really fill out the sound for some great pads or old skool sounding chord stabs...sweet machines!!!
this is so awesome. Now Arturia needs a Analog drum module to complement the Beatstep pro
Antonio229 !!! great idea
they just made the drumbrute
:)
This is a great video, thanks for such an in depth review of the capabilities of this powerhouse of a synth
nice to see a fresh tuto on this synth , great tuto btw.
thanks for you minibrute/microbrute reviews/demos. v. helpful
Best Minibrute review ever.. I've probably seen all of it by now, and this review just taught me a lot of stuff I didn't know until now. Very fresh perspective, thanks a lot. Eventide helps a lot, too :) (I use something similar, too)
somebodys selling a practically unused one near me for a very low price, after watching this im now very tempted ;)
It really is a great synth!
What a great demo. I have the Microbrute, and that's fun, too.

SourceDistributionTV can you go back and forth? In other words I would like to get the sequencer until I get the beatstep and then go back to the arp.
Ja'Maul Redmond Yep. You can always revert to the original functionality if you prefer.
+SourceDistributionTV - but will it void the warranty?
Excellent overview has certainly given me some more ideas on how to use my Minibrute SE, definitely going to explore the audio in feature some more
thanks for this vid, pointed out some things i wasn't aware of
another great review from Mr Dartyhands
Mr Dartyhands ;)
Awesome video and nice clear explanation of all the parameters. I love the unique touches of the minibrute very inspirarional. Excellent semi modular options .
This review makes me want to power up my MB right now
+ec101dm Do it! Make some tunes
Great sound your getting from this thing!
Can't wait to receive my red mini brute in the mail tomorrow!

Congrats, great Review, greetings from Brasil
As always, love the sounds and fun. why can't I like this multiple times. genuinely wanted to hit the like button 10 times or more or so
Excellent review description tutorial
I'm using this as a lesson. Fantastic video.
Excellent demo!
I own the MicroBrute, and it will soon be accompanied by it's big brother :-)
Very nice demo. Thinking about buying one and this was very informative and helpful. Thank you..

Alejandro CABAL BENAVIDES Thanks - we surely do have a MicroBrute demo, check it out: ruclips.net/video/cagbBg0TmgM/видео.html
I'm a big user of the microbrute but I'd never realised what a beast the minibrute is! (And that beatstep pro looks tasty, too...)
I definitely like my MiniBrutes more than my MicroBrutes.
KWHCoaster prefer the micro myself
Very cool demo indeed!
great review, thanking you
this arturia seems good
reminds me of the old ARP synths (like the Explorer) but super cool
All of this reminds me of Adult.s early stuff. Sounds great!
NemesisAnother Going to queue up some Adult now, thanks!
Long live electro punk! Haha.
NemesisAnother adult.s?
Curious to know what they used ,,, before the mini brute of course .. bass station ? SH-1?
Thanks for the reminder!
Looks like a lot of fun :P
I love the filter and yes very inexpensive i built 2 approximatly £15 or less each.
perfect tutorial!
Great Demo
It was either a Minibrute, or a Korg Minilogue
Congratulations, THIS VIDEO is the reason Arturia's sales have just gone up by ONE
you made a hit
Grrrrreat demo. I keep coming back to it just to see your hands. Have you had a career as a puppeteer ?
+Benoit Laine I'm working on my Kermit impression for future vids!
You've made a pretty advanced demo here. :) Do you have an older model here? Because I've only seen ones with a small matrix for patching.
this is the minibrute 1. The minibrute 2 is basically the same synth with a better sequencer and a patch bay
theres an app now where you can change things on the fly etc "midibrute"
5:24 Dayum!
Now I've got a tough decision to make: Go Microbrute or Minibrute?
DJ Shuffle I think the simple way of deciding is if you have a load of modular gear, I'd suggest MicroBrute, and if you don't (so you need a synth that can do a lot more on its own), go MiniBrute.
I have the exact same question. I like both the Mini & Micro. However they seem so similar. I’m on the fence. Hmm... 🤔
@@doubledog5894 i got the Minibrute SE version, the Microbrute doesn´t have aftertouch
"hectic!"

Nice video, by any chance have you used a minibrute 2, I’ve recently bought 1 but I think the minibrute 1 sounds better
great introduction to Minibrute. I'm hardly a fan of the sounds of its oscillators, they seem way too rough, especially with that drive. Nevertheless your presentation seems to bring out the best of this instrument.
What type of sound sample is that at 27:00? Really dig that tone!
20:15 !!!! getting out the credit card

You are great never heard that from a mini brute ,can you tell me what effect your using its great cheers 👍🏻
+gino ciancio The reverb is an Eventide Space
Can you show us more on the beatstep pro please ?? :) do the two note sequencers have to connect to cv only equipment or can they drive midi synths ? (And user defined midi out channel per sequencer)
*****
Hi, there's a MIDI port, MIDI through USB and you can define the output channel for each sequencer
*****This would be interesting but actually it's not implemented (at least not for now), they're sharing the same MIDI channel
***** BeatStep can drive other gear via CV, MIDI _and_ USB. We'll be doing a video with the final firmware yes - please subscribe!

In terms of versatility, should I get this, or the MS-20mini?
+JuliusSK Sorry just seen this comment - Very different machines although the MiniB can sometimes get a bit 'MS-20ish'! Get both? ;)
anyone know where an Aussie can get a 240 V replacement power supply for it ????????????
If you have a microbrute, is the minibrute a worthwhile addition?
Super!, ;-)
I just unboxed this bitch and I can barely get notes out of it. If I don’t figure it out soon I’ll be throwing myself in the bin cause I’m deffo not throwing 200 quid in the bin
Just wanted to ask, on the 26:36 mark on the video, how were you able to produce that sound on the Braids Module?
