@@JustaQuickDetour it really was! My friend drove me up it. I didn’t want to walk it! All of New Zealand is an amazing bucket list opportunity! I’m SO glad I went! I have an old video of just random clips I put together with no thought to actually making a video. It’s one of my oldest videos on my channel!
What a phenomenal job you two have done here! There is so much entertainment, well-researched information, and overall quality that most people could only dream of putting together. Y'all are the real deal and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us! All of the best with this new venture of yours!
Thank you so much! We really wanted to put a lot of effort into giving our show a professional shine right from the get go and it means a lot to hear that you appreciated the quality! We think this is the beginning of something really special so thanks for all the support and for coming along on this long, strange trip!
Wow! What a great video! It was so much fun to watch (and educational to boot)! And I thought Potomac Ave. in Dormont was steep! I'm looking forward to more videos from two of my favorite people!
Yeah, Potomac is 22%, still not too shabby! Nothing we'd ever want to drive in the snow. Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video and we're happy to have you along for the ride!
Thanks! We have SO MANY detours that we want to take. A full Google Doc just bulging with hundreds of ideas. Can't wait to hit the road and discover more!
I used to live in Squirrel Hill and work in Shadyside, and I would ride my bike up and down Negley Ave every day. It's no Canton Ave, but that's another good one.
Oh yeah, Negley is no joke! 15.81% grade according to CMU! The whole city is quite an adventure, any time we have people visit from out of town for the first time they’re shocked at how mountainous the entire thing is.
You may also enjoy the Allentown T line that runs along Arlington and Warrington Aves over Mount Washington, which at parts has a 10% grade. It’s one of the steepest rail grades in the country! It normally isn’t used anymore but you can catch T cars detouring over the line after 8 PM on weeknights.
Thank you! Happy to hear you enjoyed it! We had no idea it was going to turn into an investigation like this when we first set out to film on Canton Ave!
Thanks! Yeah, who knows, there might be some out there even steeper than Ferndale that just haven't been measured. If you ever bust out some tools and find one near you that breaks the record, let us know!
I loved every minute of this, and can't wait to see what's next!!! Only FOUR calories were burned after walking up that steep hill, though?!? Please say it isn't so!!!
I know, right?? It certainly FELT like more than four! I’m not sure if the app truly appreciated the steepness factor. But a calorie burned is a snack earned just the same! Had an extra M&M that evening.
The thought of riding a bike up (or down!) one of these roads terrifies me. There was one really long steep road that we used to ride our bikes down when we were kids. I don't know what my parents were thinking letting us do that. How did I not die? Great first episode, I loved it!
I get exhausted even thinking about riding a bike up Canton Ave! It’s really amazing what the competitors in the Dirty Dozen are able to do! Glad you liked the first ep!!
Canton Avenue is in the Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen cycling race. The truck driver should try cycling up that street. lol I've done it. So have about 2,000 others since 1985.
I haven’t been lucky enough to visit Pittsburgh yet, but I have been down Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand!
Whoa! Major bucket list spot for us! What was it like? Was its steepness truly awe-inspiring?

I climbed Potomac in the snow ❄️ in my 71 Super 🐞 Beetle.
I find your videos to be interesting and fun to watch. Production quality is very good. Looking forward to many more. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words! So glad you enjoy the videos! ☺️ We’ve got some really good ones coming up, stay tuned!
What a fun and fascinating video about one of my favorite places! You two are awesome, and I can't wait to watch more!
Thanks so much! Glad you’re enjoying them! We’ve got a bunch more coming, next week we’re going way behind the scenes of one of our favorite places!
This is so well done!! I can't wait to watch the rest.

Oh wow! I’m familiar with the line but never knew that fun tidbit! That may warrant further exploration for a future episode!

@@JustaQuickDetour Any update on whether the local community group has taken the challenge to have Ferndale declared world's steepest street?
Wonderful first episode, im now thinking about all the steep roads local to myself. Looking forward to your next quick detour!

Yeah we get to that in there eventually! 😉 Really amazing, biking up that thing!
You guys went to the hood to get it all! Nice!
interesting, maybe there is 90 degree street somewhere

Hey there! Thanks for checking us out!
What is the formula for this measurement?
Any Pittsburghers out there know how steep is Churchill St. In McKees Rocks?.
Someone should call Guinness about this
